Yeah you could Dennis! I'm 48 and saw them 3 times in the last two years...Drove 6 hours to see them in St. Louis. I was a bit tired, sweaty and dehydrated by the end of five hours in the pit with five great bands playing but I loved every second!! Don't let your age define you!!!
Sorry ya weren't into this song. But this is thrash, fast and pounding drums. Don't give up on Slayer.

Didn't see anyone post this but if you play the vinyl version backwards they are saying "Join Us!" And it can be a tough song to like I'm sure plus for Slayer fans probably the hardest lyrics to remember and recite though it's one of my personal Slayer faves.
Hey man, this album has influenced so many youngsters to pick up a guitar or beg their parents for a drum set, me being one of them. This is CLASSIC Slayer, it's fucking beautiful, the chaotic delivery is intentional. When I heard it in my teens in the 80's it lit a fire in me that is still with me today. Sorry you don't dig it, but I totally understand why, just not your thing.
Exactly, the chaotic growling lyrics are supposed to represent an evil maniac (maybe even a demon) narrating what's happening in hell. The atmosphere of this album is pure evil. Great stuff.

This is classic Thrash, that's what it's suppose to sound like. Very aggressive and fast paced. Early Slayer kicked ass. Sorry you didn't really enjoy it.

🤘SLAYER🤘 Need more SLAYER!! Not the best Slayer to start out with, give em another chance. Songs I think you'll like are Dead Skin Mask, South of Heaven, Skeletons of Society, Mandatory Suicide. Those songs are more grove oriented/slower than this song, this song was more speed metal.
Ironic that you also reacted to a Dead Kennedy's song on this same day. DK was a huge influence on Slayer...
You need to check some songs from South of Heaven or Seasons In The Abyss.. Gonna be better for the start! :)

Raw & uncut Slayer in the early days, got to be a Metalhead for awhile to rock to Tom Araya's voice in the early days. Not my fav, but your right about the intro, so badass classic Slayer. I still can rock this tho this isn't the best ofTom's singing. Appreciate you giving it a try brother.

You should check out " Expendable youth" or " skeletons of society". It will ease you into Slayer....

I feel the same way about the vocals - check out the live version on "Decade of Aggression", it's far superior and is an amazing live album as far as audio quality and band performance.

The part at the begginning is saying "Join Us" only backwards to give it that effect. Not the best song for the casual listener for sure. Try Devildriver - Bitter Pill or Sail ( cover )

Average it all out man it's a creative metal song you just don't like the chorus if you read the lyrics while you were listening to this you would be so impressed to amount of words he's actually able to spit out in that short amount of time you have to average the whole song out together that is a creative masterpiece

Also the studio production of early thrash metal is kind of awful, everything sounded so trebly and quickly recorded with little time for mixing and mastering

I'm a huge Slayer fan since the '80s, and I'm not crazy about the second half of this song either. The intro dominates, though.
I'm a die hard fan and even dont completely love when this song loses its groove and goes too fast without proper pacing for the vocals and riffs, but still a classic

I remember my first time hearing this song. i remember exactly where I was and who I was with and our reaction to it. IT WAS FUCKING BAD ASS!!!
Great band and song but sounds like it was recorded in my parents garage in the summer between 11th and 12th grade.
Yeah, epic intro (and one I still listen to several times a week), but I'm hit or miss myself on the vocals, even if I recognize how amazing it was for him to sing like that.
Yeah his delivery is fast and aggressive. Its thrash metal. If you want thrash pop thats what metallica is for

it's speed metal.... that means fast.... plus it's much more enjoyable when you know the lyrics
Thing about slayer is that they wrote great songs for better bands to cover.

Ill be honest, as an old school metal head since I was ten, listening to Pantera, Metallica and Megadeth I just never got into Slayer much at all. A song here and there maybe, but really they are just a one trick pony and the musicianship never really impressed me. I know they are legendary but just not for either of us I guess.
One trick pony; That's blasphemous nonsense. I cannot take seriously anyone over the age of 13 who still listens to Pantera. Slayer is a different kind of music, an acquired taste to be sure, but certainly not for everyone.
