    Our 2006 VW Golf GT, TDi 2000 diesel would occasionally not start. When persuaded to start by squirting easystart it would run perfectly. When some dry weather occurred it was noticed that diesel fuel was leaking. After much checking it seemed to be coming from the tandem pump region. A second hand pump was purchased (for £24) and fitted in place of the old one. The gasket was in good condition and re-used. The leak returned. When I saw this video I realised it was exactly the same tandem pump model, Bosch 03G 145 209 C (the C is important) as mine and the same layout. Despite the lack of words and the irritating music the message seemed to be that the gasket alone could explain the leak. So I got a new gasket, smeared both surfaces very lightly with grease, and re- fitted the £24 pump and now the car has been running for more than a week with no leak and reliable start.

      Bro I have a 2006 Golf 5 SDI , no leaks just decided to check out the pump that it was fine, prepared myself ahead of time with that black gasket. Saw its worn (both pump and camshaft where they connect) and will need replacing when I have spare money, but otherwise in good condition, after closing it with the new gasket I started having a diesel leak!!!
      I didnt grease the gasket (im a newbie and didnt know you need to grease gaskets) and stripped the threads a little with one of the 2 small Torx bolt that hold the pump. I got a new gasket set for the pump and will replace now, hopefully its just a seal thats worn out.

    • @Juppie902
      @Juppie902 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, some news, apparently there are many versions of the pump (with mfg'ers LUK, Bosch) using the same P.N but different letter suffix.
      Partsouq said I have the Q version pump, so I ordered a gasket set for it, but it doesn't have all that many bolts and rubber seals/gaskets. Upon removing the pump I discovered that actually the C version is mounted, mfg Bosch, okay no big deal, I proceed to remove the cover bolts but out of 8 or so, 1 of them refused the T25 bit several times, and I stripped the head. No idea how to proceed now really, drilling it out will just make any leak worse right ?
      Comparing prices of another repair kit containing all 8 bolts for the cover and a used tandem pump, it's pretty tough to decide. because even after another repair kit the diesel leak may still be there, its not a guarantee to fix anything.
      On a Russian forum I read that people noticed that some of the pumps that do not come with the metal type gasket should not be mounted with it attached (for example the A variant, LUK mfg, uses rubber seals) because they caused leakage, and instead used the rubber seals.

      Ian, did you have fuel leaking from what looked to be under the intake manifold? Just got a bkd Leon and started to leak about 40miles into driving home. No tools to look just now as they are at work however I couldn’t see a single pipe or hose burst!

    • @iandeloford1344
      @iandeloford1344 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madmacracing2123 I could see a wet mark on the ground and I could see, after much shining of a light in just the right place I could see wetness dribbling down the left side of the engine. So what I wrote 9 months ago was true about the leak; it stopped and hasn't returned. But the other bit was wrong. After a few weeks the car again wouldn't start until it got the easystart treatment. The local garage that I like and trust couldn't think of a reason, except there is a sensor somewhere inaccessible (on the flywheel?) that confirms the engine is running and they told me that that sometimes fails intermittently. So they changed it, whatever it was and now the car has started reliably ever since, through the coldest of winter days.

      not true for all cars, in golf 5 2.0 SDI it took ~1 minute of cranking, that after priming fuel tank pump for ~5 times by ignition, and 3 times with VCDS. vacuum or fuel pressure needs to build up, plus maybe air evacuating, so makes sense. scary first time when it doesn't start.
