This is right up my street. As a lover of the art deco style in general I had to buy one of the original Premier SS models(without F holes) mainly because of the way it looked but I was very pleasantly surprised with the fit and finish and playability. This model kicks it up a notch or two and I think those Supro pickups sound great. I have a self imposed rule that stops me paying more than £1K on a guitar but I am more than tempted here.
Frpm LeoM; No doubt, great sounds. I am not underestimating how much your skills make it sound great. I have an older model SS, and enjoy the style, comfort and the great tones. It is really a unique marketing position to bring out a model with less features and put the price above the full dressed entry level Premier models.
Guitar is super beautiful. Also, it's like 43 mm at the nut. Perfect! Also it sounds fantastic! And for $1499, well, that's a good price. It's a good price for an excellent instrument. I bought a Gretchen junior, played it for an hour and sent it back. Very disappointed. Also, no need for a bigsby. It just got in the way. Never used. I'm going to buy that guitar from Sweetwater. I like Sweetwater because they set the guitars up fairly well - much better than some of the companies I know like Guitar Center? Could that be it? Lol Very very nice demo. And you play beautifully! Oh, also, the normal D'angelico head stock is way way over the top for me. The head stock D'Angelico Excel SS Tour is GORGEOUS!!! Thanks!!!!
I bought the double cut version and love it. The quality is superb and the setup from the factory was excellent, just needed a little work on intonation. Otherwise perfect, now a favourite. I wouldn’t swap it for a Gibson at 3 times the price.
I own a Premier DC and have probably played 50+ of their guitars. They’re just consistent between awesome sounds and a nice design. The tour series I didn’t know much about but hey I’m interested. My premier dc maybe my favorite guitar
I liked my Brighton Deluxe so much, that I added a Premier Mini DC XT about 6 weeks ago (was on backorder for over 6 months). It's great too. I believe that only Sweetwater has it as its their exclusive (not sure if D'Angelico sells direct). The main thing it adds is the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded set, so she'll definitely get up and rock with that JB in the bridge, but then will get so smooth with the Jazz in the neck. I think it was a great choice for Sweetwater for that model. No, it doesn't have the abalone/M-O-P and premium hardware, but the build quality is pretty much just as good. The only flaw I've seen is a minor one - some need of oh-so-minor filing on the binding around the f-holes. The similarly-priced Gretsch 5420 in my lap has cleaner f-holes, but then again, it's a different build. The Gretsch's (MIK) f-holes are just the top with clear that they must have taped-off before shooting the white. Mind you, I could NOT possibly care less about something so trivial, but some might. 😎 I love the brand and have become a new fanboy! Thanks for another great vid. New sub here.
Great guitars. - You should check an Excel SS/DC in black or the 59 deluxe in brown. My favorite companies in terms of prize/quality relation are: Fender / solid bodies D'Angelico / ES and single cut Eastman / jazzboxes
I've got, I think, 9 guitars. My D'Angelico SD Premier is my favorite. It's not much different this model. I would love to try one of these out. If...there's a lefty.
You must try the Gibson ES-235 (if you find one!) the last guitar from Memphis factory, an excellent instrument from master luthier Mike Voltz. This D’Angelico it seems inspíred by
Bought a nice DC Deluxe B-Stock (not sure why it was B-stock) a couple months ago....got such a deal on it...gonna keep it tucked away for sale in a few years. BTW...Eastman T486 is an even better guitar than the DC Deluxe...in tone and feel.
