Haven’t had anything to eat this morning and that stoup really makes me hungry. I was ready to hop in my rig and head that way when Cindy said “wish you were here”.
It was great! We like the old ways and try to live that way as much as possible. Now days, it's a lot harder to do, but it can be done. I have Mexican friend that cooks 100% over an open fire.
I like the word "Stewpe" Sounds French. LOL Man you all were havin some fun 8 months ago. I've never had anything cooked in a kettle Gary/Cindy. Lot's of Dutch oven fixens but never from a kettle. I really enjoyed this one folks. Made me think of my awesome brothers and friends in "Elk camp". All gone now Sadly. Also remember my Mom telling me the difference between a soup and a stew is flour. LOL I'm one of 12,000 who would love to be there with you all. Many blessings to you all.
@@MuskratOutdoors Gonna be warm here also. But guess what? As soon as I'm done watching your video today I'm going out to look for some arrowheads. I haven't been out at all this year so I'm a happy camper. Thanks for the reply Gary. It means a lot to me.
Good morning Gary and Cindy ! The food looks great and just the sight of the bonfire made me warm up. Hope you both have a great day. Thanks for sharing!
I know that had to be delicious. Now with my leftovers of beef stew. (I always fix a NESCO Roaster full). I make homemade pot pies. I freeze them . GOD BLESS from West Central Indiana Farmland ✝️🇺🇸🥰🚜
And a good time was had by all. That looks like a wonderful Stewp. Who knows, we might all have to go back to cooking like that. Best wishes to you folks!
Good to hear! Cindy had done Dutch Oven Cooking for years, in the campfire, not charcoal brickettes. We are new to the Cauldron though. I think it's going to be fun, and get a LOT of use!
Very enjoyable video! That's my kind of get-together! I watched it near the wood stove this morning in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Not too cold this morning but just cold enough to be getting a severe ice storm.. It's always good to see Cindy in these videos too! P.s. there will be a pot of stew made here today.. thanks for the suggestion
Wow! I have no doubt in my mind that Cindy's stew is simply delicious. And how much more wholesome can ya get than cooking vegetables from the garden and beef you guys raised yourself, on an open fire outdoors. Good God, you just created a hunger crisis for 172 people (at least that's the view count as I write this); I just went to the freezer and took out a chunk o' moose to thaw. Will be making stew, lol. That is one ideal cookin' system, the cauldron and the tripod. Genius job on the tripod and hooks and chain. Btw, what kinda fire pit is that? Really practical, handles and all. You were thinking the willow might not be dry enough to burn yet but it looks like it went pretty well. A great visit guys, so grateful for the time you put into bringing us along. Still baffles me how much you guys fit into a day. Thanks and be blessed till next time.
Thank you very much! It was great! For a LOT of years, she had cooked in Dutch Ovens, and this is similar, just a different shape. Moose Stew sounds great!! That green willow ended up just fine. I was really worried it wouldn't burn, but it did just right.
Oh, and the firepit....it was made by a friend and given to us. It's really nice, but it's a little too tall. I should dig out a hole and set it a little lower in the ground. I'll probably do that this Summer.
Good morning When you said you bought a Witches Pot and knowing who would probably be using it I half expected to see Muskrat hanging by his toes in the next video Nothing beats a meal cooked over a campfire Have a good day
originally it called for one pound , but i did it to one half. so here we go. Grease and flour a 9 by 5 by 3 pan. cream 1 cup pf sofi butter, add gradually 1 cup of sugar for 10min.Beat in1/4 tsp grated lemon rind and 1 Ibsp lemon juice for 30 sec. beat in 4 eggs 1 add a time for 1 1/2 min each.sifed together and beat in all at once, 2cups cakeflour , 1/4 baking powder , beat till smooth 1 min.,pour in to pan.tem at 300 slow oven 70 to 90min. or if a wood pick come out clean.cool in pan.
Good Day!!! Now that's a bonfire & I'm confident that stew was fabulous😊. I sure like that cast iron pot though Gary. Up to the 50s in couple days. Been tracking frozen pipes on the well. Have a little bit of work coming up but right now ground is frozen.
50's sounds great! We have had a few days hit 40F. Over all, it's been a really mild Winter. In fact, right now, 6pm, it's 35F. I don't know what the high was? That cast Iron Pot is great! Really glad I bought it!
Hi Guys that high mountain stew cooked over a fire looks pretty darn good Beef and veggies is my favorite food That is a neat cooking setup thanks for the video if I was up in the area I would have Loved to join you guys stay warm up there GOD Bless You Guys
Heck yeah! There was plenty! I'm really glad I bought her that. It's going to be fun to use.....which means she will make some good vittles! I think it will get a lot of use!
@MuskratOutdoors Know what you mean! My first one was a princess from Montgomery, Alabama. She saw no beauty whatsoever in the Rocky Mountain West. Always tried to gentrify me, and move me to the Gulf Coast. Pretty and all, lots of critters and nice folks, but it smells bad, brown water, and no mountains! Vicki was second to the youngest of 8 kids on a dairy farm in Robert's, Id.
Vicki can outshoot me, operate heavy equipment, and her Dad always said "she works like she's killin' snakes" . Oh, and she's purtier than a new set of snow tires!!!
We would call that a rib sticking big soup, looked really good and I could feel the heat of the fire from here. Do you ever put 'dumplings' in a soup or stew, my wife makes them with flour, suet and water with a pinch of salt, she puts them in the stew, about 20 minutes before serving, delicious!! My mouth is watering now, take care both, Norfolk, UK Ray
So I made a dish that was very similar the other night. Exception was I used bear meat and no morels. I was wondering did that stew have a smoked flavor from the camp fire? It sounds fantastic either way. 👍👍
I like bear stew! That's my favorite way to cook bear meat. Maybe a little, but I didn't notice much of a smoke taste? With the lid off, some wood ash got into it. That probably added some flavor?
Polar bear? Wow! We have eaten a lot of black bears, and my Uncle had an Alaskan Brown bear he made into jerky. It was good. Morels are good! A little smoky tasting, and "meaty" tasting.
I don't think so? Her cabbage, she made into Sauerkraut. This was all from her Garden, and a cow we raised. Pretty neat to feed that many people that way.
If man could catch and store the heat of a bonfire, something i tought often about! Good looking stew was it a real cow or a heifer? In Canada, cows went into burger mostly. Anyways thanks for the party from Germany🙏
A lot of heat for sure! It was a Holstien Calf we raised into a cow. Live weight was probably neat 1,000 pounds. We had about 700 pounds hanging. It was a free martin, so sterile....
Nice job on that stew. Do you guys celebrate Guy Fawkes Night? It's traditionally been a big thing in our culture. It is on Nov. 5th. When I was a lad, we would gather up anything that burned for this event. Nowadays, it's strictly controlled.
Yes I did. Roughly 50/50 in an antifreeze jug. Poured a little on the sticks, tossed the jug in the fire, and tossed a piece of burning cardboard on top.
Any moreals in the pot? Ahh and I heard her say she’s checking on the home made bread . Folks that lady makes some awesome home made bread heck home made anything good thing muskrats have high metabolism or he couldn’t but his boots on in the morning
It sure could have used them. Nothing here was store bought, all from the garden, and a cow we raised. This year, she'll have to plant more carrots! Radishes too! Not for the stew, but I like radishes!
Haven’t had anything to eat this morning and that stoup really makes me hungry. I was ready to hop in my rig and head that way when Cindy said “wish you were here”.
