History content, yes!! Last night I made the regrettable division of watching 2 Hiroshima documentary’s, and reading the 1946 investigative journal “Hiroshima” by John Hersey, nightmare fuel. Time for something slightly more uplifting.
Being broken on the wheel was a common French execution method where you are tied to a wagon wheel and then your limbs are broken and weaved through the spokes, you are then suspended in the air via a pole or left in some public are to die . By the way, this is why the guillotine became a thing. There was a bunch of horrendous execution methods in France at the time and one of the slogans of the French Revolution was “equality in execution”, having your head chopped off was used on nobles, princes and kings, so a French inventor created the guillotine. Chop chop chop
I will not pretend to understand the intricacies of VooDoo, in my limited understanding, the reason it’s such an odd religion is because there were so many different tribal and national groups had to harmonize their shared cultural beliefs that you end up with something entirely different. also Catholics had large part to play, especially with the idea of saints, even today South American Catholics have a distinct flavor of beliefs from the rest of the institution, for example worshiping Santa Muerte the embodiment of death
Haitian Declaration of Independence is pretty metal, my fav quote is “Peace to our neighbors; but let this be our cry: "Anathama to the French name! Eternal hatred of France!" Half the document can be summerized as “fuck France”.

My gosh! If I'm going to be executed, just chop my head being broken on the wheel sounds like a long and agonizing death.

I don’t want to clutter the comments so if I have history tidbits I’ll add them in reply’s. Yellow fever is malaria
