To answer the video title: $23k
The comment the internet needed
Yeah, I'd seen $50-100/day (depending on how sketchy you're willing to go and how much time you're willing to spend in third world countries), so this makes sense
Thanks 😊
23k for a whole year? That would have to be like the most bare-boned, barely-enjoyable style of travel at that price
@@jakobstevens yeah, you're taking busses, staying in hostels and eating street food.
You could double it and get some more comfort if you want, but when you're single and in your twenties... it works
I traveled 6 countries in South East Asia for 9 months and spent around €6000. Staying in hostels and transport mainly by bus. Then rented an apartment, lived in Saigon Vietnam for 4 months, spending another €3000. Spent €9000 in total in 13 months. 9 months travelling, 4 months renting :)
I do not doubt it! I live in Brazil on the beach and spend 8k USD a year, more or less. Life is cheap outside the US and many places in Europa. U should do it again but this time document it! Thx for the info.
It is absolutely insane to me that you were a medaling DCI percussionist and that's a footnote in your life. Love your content, dude.
Connoer is awesome and raw, this podcast is great to get the full Conner experience
I never thought I'd want the full Conner experience, but i've prepared myself in this moment to receive it
Why tf is there always a reply but then I click and there's no reply. What's going on on TH-cam?
@@Wheredatruth_at23I think it is because some people that comment have their TH-cam on private mode. I could be mistaken tho.
the uncut version lol
Thank you for this series! Truly caught my attention and I watched the entire series!
Best AMA i've watched. So stoked to see your channel exploding, it is incredibly deserved. Love your vids!
Thats,s so interesting and down to earth, i love these types of formats
I binge watched all your videos. Keep up the great work Conner!
these are super helpful for someone that wants to try doing the same sort of thing in the future thanks plus very entertaining
Your candidness is one of your greatest assets. Rock on ! 👍
You saying you wanted to make your vlogs "there in the moment with me" is exactly what got me hooked on your videos. It's the best way I can describe your videos to my friends, keep up the good work man its amazing to see and inspires a lot of people!
It's not every day I watch a full 40 minute video in one go. I've been watching your main channel for the last couple of weeks, and I'm really enjoying watching your travels as a European broke uni student doing an unpaid internship whilst living at home with my parents. It's a nice escape from reality, maybe one day I'll turn my travel fantasy into a reality. Awesome stuff man, glad I found your channel!
By the way, I ended up on this video through your story on instagram.
Thanks for answering my question! I was in a competitive state band in high school and we had a few runner-up medals that i definitely feel were undeserved, and that can be tough hahaha. I definitely miss how in-shape i was during marching season, and it definitely helped when going to on trips, especially when i had a lot of walking. It's definitely an irreplaceable experience that forms lifetime bonds. Glad to see your channel having this much growth!
Im 54 now. Wish i did this in my 20s. Great channel. Thanks bro.
Why can't you do it now?
LIVE LIFE! Do it now :)
cuz olde man
You and I say the same thing
Age is just a number. 54 is not too old. Get fit and get going 😊
I get sad & cry every time I leave Japan!! Wonderful place. People are nice! Food is mind blowing. Sake is insane
It‘s my big fear of going there … that I‘ll start to profoundly hate the place I’ll eventually have to return to.
@@fiedelwent to Japan in the fall and can confirm this will happen 😂
I never in my life got the hype for Japan, and never had the interest to visit it, until I got an opportunity to go there for an upcoming SE Asia and I was absolutely mind blown and can confirm this happened, after Japan, all other places felt a little underwhelming.
love the pod and the content
I am not a fan of India either but I will say that South Indian cities are much cleaner than the big North Indian ones. Major South Indian cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, etc are truly great and have rich history and culture. Beautiful temples, great food, good non scamming people, etc
DUDE! Been watching your vids for the past couple months(especially your travels across southeast Asia) and have loved every single one. Though I just stumbled across your pod and didn't realize you marched with Crown! I've done 2 years of dci so far (1 with cadets, 1 with Boston) and about to start my age out with Boston this summer. Ive definitely realized through my years in the activity now that I want to travel as much as I can in life, there is truly nothing like being on the road. Though for whatever reason going international on my own for an extended period of time has always seemed very daunting to me but now after watching this pod and learning how your past is so similar to mine and how you were able to travel the world truly has now made me confident enough to finally apply for my passport(never been out of the country before). Absolutely love your content, I am absolutely hooked!
Do it man! I'm going to do it too. This guys video also has inspired me to do a youtube and start.
I remember sending you a DM back when you were at Chaz Zone in Seattle! you had fewer followers back then but to see you keep grinding and for me to see is super inspirational.
Nooooo, this was the dude showing the different areas in the park?
Love you man! I’ve been binge watching your vids and I would feel grateful for an adventure like yours even if it leaves me financially broke 😂
myanmar is my favorite part to watch during your trip you really were living your best life out there with them
Anywhere he finds a beer and drinking buddy is him having his best life 😆
Shreshth here lol. Thank you for answering my question! I'm contemplating going overseas to change it all up so this helped put it into perspective. (it's pronounced Shuh-resh btw lol)
really enjoy your videos. Wish I did something like this when I was in my 20’s
Here I am sitting on a train from Belfast back to Dublin on my last night traveling after 2 weeks in Europe and it’s crazy to think how insignificant my trip was compared to your year long journey thru the world. Your videos have inspired me to wanna travel and document things differently from what we see on mainstream but at the same time it’s not an easy task and your videos give me hope because I know it’s a tough journey.
Thank you Connor u da man
nah bro its not about comparing, just have a good time man. glad you got out there. yea when you can document it, it allows you to look back. kinda like a time capsule. keep it up dude
@@smallbrainedpod thanks I appreciate that 🐐
@@smallbrainedpod also if u see this what was that book u mentioned called
@@Johnalism.Vagabonding. Links in his description
Damn! Been enjoying your videos lately man! Awesome to know you were in marching band too! I only did it in high school, but I can relate on how it feels going out to compete regionally and stuff! Our band director would talk a lot about DCI and USC since he was in the Trojan Marching Band. So cool. Keep up the content bro you're doing great!
Vagabonding such a great book
I’m in Japan right now working a ski season. In Togari Onsen. One of the last local ski resorts in Japan. I really enjoy your appreciating of the country and reminds me of how great it is here. As like you mentioned when you work somewhere it changes your view of it.
thats pretty sick
That’s amazing! How did you get that job as a foreigner if you don’t mind sharing?
You guys need to comedown to Australia 🇦🇺
By far my favorite channel I’ve found in the past four months or so. Such a surreal way to experience the world. The Ukraine to Transnistria part of your journey was definitely my favorite though I know that was one of the most difficult.
The beginning was crazzzzzy 🤣
Connor hates India, cant say I blame him. I´ve been to Srilanka, India and Pakistan and found Pakistan to be the friendliest, with hospitality at the next level. Islamabad, and surrounding areas were absolutely stunning.
I find Sri Lanka to be more beautiful than Pakistan
Sri Lanka and Nepal by far the friendliest and most welcoming from my visits to India, Pakistani, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal or the Indian subcontinent. Pakistan is a close second. Indian people are aggressive, don’t understand the word “no” and are driven to scam foreigners. However all of these countries are beautiful places to visit. 😊
Craziest first 2 minutes in a TH-cam video ever
I did about 1k euro per month in Southeast Asia staying mainly at cheap hostels and taking the bus around from place to place, planetickets included also (just a few plane trips though, I don't like flying). I traveled for 6 months.
I'm so scared to fly, I never have yet. I'll be 40 this year... really want to but I'm scared I'll have a major freak out up there. One of my top fears.
love your shit bro, keep it up
Much appreciated
If anyone wants to start traveling alone , backpacking with low budget IMO the best place to start is south of Europe
I traveled 6 months around France Spain Portugal and Italy , it's very safe beautiful and with good weather you can sleep anywhere . No visa is needed between countries and transportation is very cheap
The only expense is food which 10 € per day is more than enough
love your videos man! keep up the amazing content. How do you edit your videos on the road?
Hey Connor, wow, you read my question. I'm your Patreon subscriber as well. Good video. Do you have a game plan for your next year long travel? Can't wait to see what comes with it.
Your videos are great and i liked your attitude , so open and friendly to people and not afraid of an adventure ! But the trafficking experience happens to me many times , its just how people are , dont take it personal , its good that you show us the reality !
You inspired me to learn japanese for my trip there this summer
Vagabonding is an amazing book. Also, how to travel the world on $50 a day by Matt Keynes. Really opened my eyes. I am hooked on your channel, keep it up man!!
Would love to know more about your DCI experience :) What corps did you march and what instrument? Been binging your videos keep it up 👍👍
Were you in Carolina crown for Relentless?!?!?! Hands down best dci performance I’ve ever witnessed 😫
Just did this for all of 2023. 7 different countries across mostly south east Asia. Unless you are doing it barebones realistic cost is around 30-40k
Dude I had no idea you marched dci…let alone crown?? I remember being so upset when you guys lost to BD that summer😢. I marched Boston for a couple years and we got 2nd too…shoulda been first lol.
Been watching you for a bit now and always loved your content. Much love my guy❤
I feel the same way about India. I also spent 8 weeks there and I left with a trauma that I haven't resolved yet and it's almost a year ago 😅
A packing video would be pretty sweet actually.
I agree with Japan being the best, most interesting country, for traveling..
10:55 this resonated deeply. Towards the end of last year, I set my eyes on teaching English in Thailand after a month long solo trip in Japan. I decided not to do it though because my grandmother was getting very old and I wanted to spend as much time as possible with her. I made the right decision because she died this year. If I had gone to Thailand, I would not have gotten the chance to spend time with her and experience her final days, which would've hurt me deeply. So yea, you made a very good point and people should definitely take their families' health into consideration when embarking on long term adventures abroad.
Vietnam pays good too. I heard ppl earning 2.5-3.5 k in Vietnam with english teaching jobs. Its a very good money for Vietnam. Because ur expenses are pretty low.
LMAO she caught me off guard with that kitchen joke 😂😂
Didn’t know you played tenors. I saw Crown ‘15 in Atlanta - my first DCI experience. Anyways… love the travel vids!
(Phantom Regiment ‘21-‘22, & Auburn band snare)
haha, awesome dude. i like your videos on instagram, good shit. you did drum corps so you understand how to travel like a dirt bag 😂 respect
@@smallbrainedpod awesome! Thanks for liking my vids that’s actually how I found your channel lol. Our concert band went to Spain over the summer, and that really made me want to travel more.
Yo bro, sick. to hear you're in DC! Would love to grab a drink sometime and ask more about starting your channel and what gave you the courage/confidence to start filming yourself!
and by 'a drink' I mean 6 minimum lmao
You should come to Malta, a lot to explore 😄
you are awesome dude i hope you keep doing what you are doing man cuz im old school metalhead bro and keep it going dude i love evrything you say cuz you are real and dont foget it
Connor! Your channel is awesome. My question is where did you get your sweatshirt??
Lol. I had a similar thing happen to me on a flight from Japan to Taiwan. The guy sitting next to me (I think he Japanese but lived in New York) propositioned me. All from me just being nice and talking to him respectfully.
And in Taiwan, all of the taxi drivers chew beatlenut. It completely fills the streets and the side of the taxi's from being spit. When I first got there, I thought it was blood from pedestrians getting hit in traffic.
I am from Hong Kong and just started watching your whole journey a few days ago. Your video gave me good insights into places that I have never ever considered to go to. But I do have one question tho, would you ever come and visit Hong Kong? Thank so much for your content and keep it up bro.
Yea bro id come to Hong Kong!!
@@smallbrainedpod can’t wait to see the videos man🙌🏻
Dude you are funny! Super interesting topics. Sub’d !! 🔥
Congrats bro you worked hard for it
I feel like most people would enjoy if you stayed in japan for most your travel but thats just my opinion
With couch surfing it used to be a lot less and the community was a lot more genuine before the cheapskates cashed in.
36:15 your description of India gave me a good laugh Lol, not the first time i've heard this. i'll avoid going there lol
Did a year of traveling in 2021 and it ended up costing about $23k. Was awesome to see the route you took. Any plans on motorbiking again in the future? I'm currently doing a motorbike trip through Colombia which has been a blast.
Which countries did you go through during that trip?
colombia is a great country for it. thats where I took my first trips on the bike. nah honestly man im wore out, motorcycle travel is such a pain in the ass. maybe for a few weeks here and there, like the vietnam trip took me 6 or 7 days. but the daily grind of riding a bike for months and months is not for me haha.
It don't just happens with foreigners in India (The scams or taxi and bus drivers shouting at you ) it happens with every Indian
Conner, has Sarah chucked the open-toe shoes she was wearing at the Khlong Toei wet market?
I did it for 24k with some large expenses. $1700 dentist, $800 rocket launchers, $750 police. If i could do it again i could do it for 20k no problem. Read the book Vagabonding by Rolf Potts.
Nova I thought went bankrupt years ago, just curious what years were you in Japan and what city. I was in the Kobe area 1993 ^^. Great memories, Japan really does something to people especially at a young age.
ive introduced a bunch of people to this channel, mostly women, they love it. But they always said one common thing: "I wish I was a guy so I could do this stuff".
it's real sad.
men must to protect women, that`s why we build villages and houses. Other way we would still living in the fields as nomads.
@@MenteAvizpada I would agree but nowadays most men can't even wipe their own asses. They have no say in who or who shouldn't depend on them. *Most men*
Still very dangerous for a male to do this stuff.
Exactly. @@MenteAvizpada
Women can go it like what his gf said. Just go to the countries mentioned and the rest go with friends and learned what to do and not to do from it.
How did you meet Sarah??? She's amazing
Just wanted to mention that Taiwan is a great country to teach English in too.
When did Sarah join you? Did she loop in and out when you went to India and Myanmar?
what is that microphone? It's really good quality.
Did you just walk into Glastonbury or did you buy a ticket? I’m confused
What tech are you using?
What age were you when you taught in Japan?
7:29 I think the equivalent would be Zyn
United Arab Emirates is super safe even woman can travel alone specially dubai and abu dhabi
RIP mullet :(
Soooo... in short how much is it for a year ?
How did you manage to keep accomodation costs low especislly in europe? Airbnb can get expensive
When you are with transport. just avoid tourist towns. 20min driving from tourist attractions usually is cheap as chips.
Hi conner, how come you've cut your hair short? By the way I love your ayahuasca video.
will skp India
Its funny that ur comparing US safety to like west europe. I think its way more safe there as supposed to the US lol.
I’d end up dead if I tried this but I love living thru your videos
@steph. India would be terrible for a solo female traveller. Clementine (a girl I know) who travelled with her boyfriend was constantly harassed fro 2 months and groped and when she left after 2 months... she was very upset.
lmaoooo that hanoi story. wow.
HE WAS IN DCI???
0:44 best scene 2023
Yeah, bro! Been living in Vietnam for 4 years now. It seems to me that Viet people just too sensitive to what foreigners say about them or the country and if they “misbehaved”. Another day I saw a photo on Fb of two whities trying to hitchhike with a cardboard and like 12k hateful comments bellow that there is nothing free in this world and in Vietnam in particular. (Although there were some nice and justifying comments too, but way fewer) On the other hand when they talk in viet in front of you and about you thinking you don’t understand what’s going on then it’s totally fine. Anyways, I still love the country.❤ there are many good things too.
As a vietnamese, i want you to spread awareness about the situation, just don't report to the police. They won't give a F
That Glastonbury chick was wild!!! But two died there in 2023. Of course they were in their 40's. I'm 60. Problem with folks our age is that we all suffer from an certain affliction. We have kids your age. So we care. That said, as I look back I wish I had taken greater risks in life!!!
which country was the most expensive and which was the cheapest?
Germany was probably the most expensive, either there or Ireland. Cheapest was definitely India
you remind me of neok the CSGO youtuber
can somebody explain what "REEEEE" means
dude, you are funny af
like i sit here laughing, bc you dont put on that fake filter, and you got humor, yeah, its rare
Well you do have that Freddie Mercury vibe haha
That was bonkers
he looks like wyatt russell
That human trafficking vid blew my mind. Were the girls at the desk aware or worse in on it?
2 k month so 24000 plus bonus money extra 1000 or 4000
That's f*ckin unreal about that sex trafficking. I would be like this is really happening?
Visit Saudi Arabia or syria please
Dubai is safe as well for a woman.
