I hope they preserve 6365 before it’s too late! I really want this bus to be part of the museum fleet, We should probably get a whole group of transit fans and tell them the whole history about 6365 and preserve it.
Also, several of these buses (6589-6624) were transferred from Fresh Pond to the then-new Grand Avenue Depot In 2008, then were sent to East NY Depot a while later. In 2018, buses 6590-6595, 6597-6601, 6603-6606 were sent back to Fresh Pond Depot. Then some of the 6490-65xx buses were sent to East New York Depot.
All 2003-04 units and 158 of the 2004-05 units will be retired by the end of this year. Soon, the rest of those 2004-05 units will be replaced by the next hybrid order.

Man oh man, do I remember seeing these for the first time back in Spring/Summer 2004. I was riding on the B51 bus at the time heading to City hall (it was a 1990/1991 repowered TMC RTS #8xxx) and we came to a red light on Canal street, and I saw a northbound 2004 Orion VII hybrid, brand new on the M1 bus! I was so shocked! That's because back then, I only remember seeing Orion 5 buses on the M1 back in those days! :)

Yea i think is more better in richmond va we just have half cng gilligs half 2011-2012 gillig low floor brt diesel not is powered with ISL Not ISM and some 2008-09 gillig but the 2008 one that I grow up with is sadly retired

One day the OG’s will be replaced, by the time LFS HEV Buses will be delivered once MTA NYCT tested them. Along with Prevost X3-45 with upgrades.

The 2004 - 05 units are my most favorite Orion VII HEVs. The CNG versions of these are my least favorites, toooo bad !!! These buses reminds me of 2007, when I flew from Haiti🇭🇹 amd first rode these sets out of ENY Depot(the B17 route as my first home route of NYC). Speaking of that, I recently transferred to ENY Depot(dispatcher) and I am excited to take control of these with my cousin. I miss my OGs from Quill and #6745(not one of these in this video) was my first Quill OG HEV I got on. Excellent job on this review.

I think I saw a few of these buses in the 2011 Smurfs movie. I also saw one in Captain America The First Avenger. But it changed to a 2008 - 2010 Orión VII. These are good Manhattan Buses and they’re pretty iconic in a few movies.
2 buses begin 6421 & 6424 were sent to Yukon Depot in Staten Island around 2008 (I’m not joking, this is REAL!) I do remeber seeing 6488 on the Q88 for the first time when I was 1 in 2007, I started to remember numbers at the time, and between 2012-2016 I saw a lot of these Orion VII OGs a lot on the Q27, I remember riding 6427, 6447, 6448, 6455, 6465, 6467, 6486 & 6487, man, I could have recorded my ride on 6467 but my camera died but don’t worry, I’ll do another ride video on them soon, it might be on the Q27 I think, and I will also ride the new incoming 64 order of the 2018-2019 NovaBus LFSs coming to Queens Village Depot, they’re 28 at the depot, i still miss these Orion VII OGs, since I film the Q43 a lot, I don’t live near it, I love finding the OGs running on that route! I’ll ride these on video, I promise you
I vaguely remember that. Surprisingly I've only been to Staten Island once and that was back in 2000 when I was 3. And from 2004 to 2015 I was living in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The MTA will save one (most likely #6365). It will be another one of those "#2201 vs #1201" cases, but instead it will be "#7560 vs #6365".

you roasted the orion vii ng hev 7:57. plus these buses I don't see them no more on the JFK depot I think there retired so far. these buses are going going gone. Gabriel Fearon JFK Depot has the 2006-07 Orion VII OGs, as well as 51 NGs. For retirement, they go to Eastchester Depot in the Northeast Bronx.
As I usually ride these low-floored Orion buses during the previous decade, the only thing I hated and couldn't stand most times was the loud kneeling sound as they kneel - they were, to me, in my owns thoughts, irritatingly and annoyingly lousy, awful, and unpleasant! The same thing goes for the Westchester Beeline Bus Company. But, Thanks be to God, both New York City Transit and MTA took care of those kneeling sounds, which has been sounding better for being quiet and less irritating to me, during the later years!
Even though I used to dislike the loud kneeling sound myself when I was a kid, I do miss them, I'm not gonna lie.

who's stupid idea was it to replace these hybrids with diesel buses?
SusanPauline365 You do realize that today’s diesel buses are more environmentally friendly and cleaner-burning than these old hybrid, right? Not to mention that the diesels on the new units are just as clean as hybrids, only thing is that hybrids cost more in maintenance, and they could use that money elsewhere, like improving your slow bus service.
I agree that diesels now are cleaner than hybrids 15 years ago. But the hybrids of today are probably cleaner. How do you explain other major bus systems in the Northeast like MBTA, Septa @ WMATA only buying hybrids and CNG units now?
SusanPauline365 We are buying diesel buses because when these orders were placed, they did not want Hybrid buses due to maintenance costs. It wasn’t worth spending the extra money on maintenance to justify the small reductions in emissions compared to today’s diesel buses so that’s that. To respond to environmentalists concerns, the current 628 bus order was modified to include 10 XDE40s in it. This will provide data needed for the upcoming 275 hybrid bus order with fleet numbers 9510-9784, which was modified from the planned order of 200 diesels and 75 hybrids at the urging of Cuomo). We are also buying CNG Buses to replace the end of life CNG Buses (138 XN40s and 110 XN60s ended up replacing the 260 Orion VII CNG Buses).
In the near future, MTA NYCT will begin to purchase only all electric buses to replace all three fuel types. By 2040, we will be an all electric operation. Current orders for electric buses include:
15 XE60s for the M14 SBS to arrive in the fall (along with the busway that was blocked by a judge yesterday)
45 standard electric buses due next year
500 new electric buses in the next 5 years.
As for others purchasing only hybrid and CNG, I have no idea what the hell these guys are doing. Hopefully they will start a purchasing all-electric as cost of the bus goes down.
i still feel diesel buses are bad for the environment. If the benefits of hybrids are slim then maybe they should start purchasing electric buses now or not retiring the orions yet.
SusanPauline365 What are you talking about? Not retiring the Orion VII Hybrids? They are 15+ years old. WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO RETIRE THE FIRST BATCH WITH DIESEL BUSES SO POLLUTION SHOULD NOT BE A CONCERN. Plus those diesels comply with the latest EPA standards. The slim benefits of hybrids compared to diesels do not justify the increased maintenance costs of the hybrids.
Electric units are coming, but the first 15 are NOT FOR BUS RETIREMENT. They are for M14 SBS units to displace the 2016-17 XD60s to Tuskegee Airmen Depot. By 2040, we will be all electric.
