      Karyn Taylor, if it’s a Craftsman style home purchased from Sears, try around 50-75 years ago. LOL...Knowing that a Sears once sold homes through their catalog is pretty much general knowledge. If she were really on her game instead of saying...baaannnkkrupppt, she could’ve added that Sears of yesterday was very similar to Amazon of today, if Sears would’ve taken their catalog business and transition pad it and their customer database online, there probably wouldn’t be an Amazon as we know it today, just a Sears.com!

    This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

    • @hausmaus5698
      @hausmaus5698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Ikea is already building houses, but they are crap.
      Building description is not precisely defined. Contract clauses disadvantage buyers, especially in the event of construction defects. You can only have it built in defined locations. You should pay for everything even though construction is still underway. Known technical defects, sound insulation, subsequent installation of sockets, for example, not possible. Buyers are bound to a specific energy provider for at least 15 years.

    Seriously buying these kind of pre-made tiny houses isnt worth it. The only way this concept really works/ is financially functioning is if you build it yourself. These companies building these houses dont do it because its cheaper for you to live in, they do it because the market is expensive and so they can also be expensive and rip people off. A normal handy person could build a house this size for less than 10 to 30 k depending on what materials youre using. Youre not moving into a tiny house to have it exclusive. • @chubbyninja842
    @chubbyninja842 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you're even a little handy, there's a much cheaper way to do this. In fact, I'm standing in the office I built in my backyard via this method. There are dozens of companies around the country that sell backyard sheds. I used TuffShed. They'll build you a shell of a building for a very low price, then you just come in after them and finish it out with whatever utilities/amenities you want. For example...
    The building I put in my backyard is 12X20 and cost about $3,500 to have them build it. They built galvanized steel base and put it on piers, then brought in the walls and roof. The whole build process took a few hours one Saturday morning. That gave me the shell with 2 windows and a door. Once that was done, I roped in my father and my son and the three of us put in flooring, insulation, drywall, electricity, lighting, heating/AC, etc. The total final cost was right at about $5K for what is essentially two 10X12 rooms that are fully useable year-round. One is my office. The other is a spare room that we've used as a guest room and as storage.
    My zoning prohibited it, but if it hadn't I could have paid $500 for the "barn roof upgrade" which would have provided enough space overhead for a useable second level, nearly doubling my useable floor space. Of course I'd have to pay more to run the electric to the 2nd level, as well as insulation, flooring, drywall, etc... So the overall cost would have probably ended up closer to $8K, but that's for almost 500 sqft of space. If someone wanted to take that and add a few appliances, they could probably finish out the building as a tiny home for around $15K.

A tesla is at most 2x the cost of a cheap new car, but with basically every feature standard and 1/2 the cost to run and maintain. a fully loaded 500sq ft tiny home would cost as much as $50k. The one you had was almost $200k. so 4x the cost for the same luxuries and with a house that honestly is probably less energy efficient so you pay more to live in that home as well. I prefer newer model of gaz stove over other gaz stoves or induction versions, for me they are the safest.
      Mine for example you have to twist and push the “button” for it to work and release some gaz. You also have to approche a flame to “light” not sure about the word) the stove. So kids can’t use it by accident.
      Of course like any other appliance you need to use it as it was designed and maintain/upkeep it.
      Most accidents happens with older, not well maintained models.
      In some rare case someone forget to turn it of and wakes up with a mild gaz intoxication. Death by gaz leak is pretty rare nowadays.

    I love the Idea of having a house made from a container, it’s green, natural disasters proof (it was made to resist crazy weather variations), low cost, etc. but the REAL ISSUE here it’s the pricing. Considering how expensive the final cost can be. Plus all the legal requirements from the city, etc... there must be a way to actually make this happen with a very small budget.

      I think the secret is to find a loophole in the law, which is anything under 150 sq ft doesnt require a permit to build, so make multiple small units that work together but aren’t technically connected

  • @THEWLLAS97

    Hi Shelby, I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the time you spend to make them really visually pleasing. That being said, I feel like there wasn't quite enough research put into this topic to truly represent it as a whole. The title makes it seem as though you're going to talk about Tiny Homes in general, but what you're really talking about is pre-fab homes, which are generally MUCH more expensive than tiny homes. I feel like it is detrimental to the movement (which is generally very eco friendly, and awesome in so many other ways) when people see a video that says that tiny homes are generally $150,000 - 300,000, when in reality the average cost of a tiny home is much much lower than that. This might cause people disregard the movement as they think it is too expensive. Just some thoughts! Thanks again for the video!

    I bought a 417 sq feet studio condo for 230 thousand last year in Aspen co. on the mountain, beautiful view, pools, hot tubs, gym, steam room, after living in a large two bedroom house in LA. It's fabulous and easy to keep clean. I was going to sell it last week just to make a 30 thousand profit but then realized I love my space with the most amazing views, I wouldn't trade it for the world right now.It's not just the size but location. I could never afford to purchase or rent a traditional house or Apt. in Aspen.
