I think the 1980s felt no different to today because when you were there it was the present. From the UK we are wealthier and have far more material stuff but standards of discipline and common decency has declined significantly I would say in the last few years. These songs are really modern takes on the 1980s, music from the 1980s never sounded like this, the instrumentation is much richer as technology has improved and samplers and sequencers are much more sophisticated than they ever were then.
The 80’s were blessed, anointed, ethereal, iconic, dreamy, heartstring-pulling, new, tearjerking, otherworldly, fresh, love-filled, pleasant, beloved and so very, very deeply missed.
Definitely amazing, so long as you were a straight, white Christian man with money. For gay people, minorities, independent women, atheists and/or the impoverished it was pretty fucking dismal back then.
@@Peatingtune Don't remember the UK being that bad, plenty of strong independent women, we even had one as Prime Minister, she divided opinions, but can't deny she was strong willed and independent. No problem being an atheist in the UK, being gay was more acceptable than ever, (although AIDS did create a backlash) being poor and unemployed was so common we had a group named after the benefits form, films about it, etc. We watched the US High School films as a form of escapism from the drudgery of trying to find work. Yes racism was a problem, but on the positive, we had the Two Tone music scene, where white and black kids, many of who grew up together formed bands. And many of us were standing up to those racist views, after all many of us were standing in the same dole queue as those from different ethnic backgrounds, bit of a uniting experience. Some or all of this might written with tongue firmly in cheek
Took my girlfriend to see this movie in the theatre. Every time I watch it I’m transported back in time, sitting next to her… holding her hand. She was so, so special! Magical time! Thank you, Kathy!
When you find a moment in time that is just perfect, never assume it will always be there, enjoy every second. The 80’s were simply awesome and I’m so glad I lived in that time.
If your formative years were spent growing up in the 80's like mine were (I graduated High School in 1984 @ 17 years old) then you lived in the greatest decade ever. There will never be another time like the 80's. I would have hated being born later and missing it. 56 now and all I think about are those days and how positive they were and how Pop Culture was incredible.

One of my favorite movies growing up. This one seemed more relatable. Less silly. Great soundtrack. John Hughes was great with the teen themes. God bless. Even though I struggled with my teen years in the 80s, I loved the music. I miss being young, and having that excitement with life. Having boyfriends. There's few things more exciting than getting ready for a date when you're young. I guess now in my 50s, I will try to get excited over other things. I'm not dead yet. Lol. However, my teen years are still fresh in my mind. Love you Mom. ❤

Born in the early 70's and raised in the 80's. My parents always said, "this is the best time of your life" and they were right but I feel bad for my kids because I can't tell them that. I'm 50 and I truly believe mine was the last generation where kids could just be kids.

Just sitting here thinking how much I probably sound like my parents saying "today's music sucks, listen to this stuff from my younger days..." but when it actually holds true, and someone new comes along, freshens up that iconic sound and breathes new life into old musical tropes and trends, you get Retrowave, and a bunch of kids listening to this thinking "I wish I got to grow up in the 80's." Sounds like the writer has to leave because his dreams are too big for his girl, and she couldn't or didn't want to come along. As much as I'd love to agree with this sentiment, being someone who has really started to shine in many aspects of my life, from finance, careers and... romance. I would like to emphasize that the most important things in life are the people we live our lives with. And don't take my word for it, because it is the wise words from the dying. Don't let your selfishness overcome what matters most in life, even if it doesn't seem like it now, but some day when it's all over, and you've come back from the adventures of life, who will be there to say, "welcome home?"
