- Professor Green meets a suspected Pit Bull Terrier who awaits her fate at Battersea Dogs Home.
Battersea Dogs Home has been saving the lives of millions of hounds for over 150 years, but has its hands tied with breeds banded under the Dangerous Dogs Act. It is forced to destroy around eight Pit Bull Terriers every month. Professor Green visits the landmark charity to find out more about the heart-breaking challenges it faces every day. He meets Caramel, a loving dog whose fate hangs in the balance of a police assessment, and the man that will euthanise her if she is classed as a Section 1 breed.

To the person who said hunting/terriers kill more things than you I was not aware. The PITBULLS are specifically targeted by people & 4 that they are banned to live in some places & we murderer them but not the people who abuse them. There are many cases of dog fight rescues where those dogs are so mistreated & suffer at the hands of so called people, if you are not introduced to that behaviour & forced to behave that way your no threat. In my lifetime I've helped animals even a attacking another dog & the other dog's being mauled. Bunch of people all standing around children & all. Stopped my car went up behind the aggressor stretched my right arm grabbed the collar & pulled him away & tied to the open link fence with the little bit of rope left from which he got loose from & proceeded to call police 4 help to pick up the dog.🐶 In those days it was pay phones there were no mobiles and no it wasn't a PITBULL. Just like people there's good & bad in all living things. You mean to tell me if the OWNER of that dog did not have proper restraints would this have happened probably not. PEOPLE are irresponsible should not own animals. ALWAYS starts with people. WAKE UP EVERYONE.🐕🐕😥

We should definitely do something about it though.
+im innocent for every single pit bull, their aggression and attitude depends on how they've been raised. If all their life, they were raised and taught that their job was to fight and guard, then they would act that way. Instinct and breeding over time does partially contribute to the way they act, but if they were raised properly, they'd be absolute angels. Just look at the dogs and the videos, they're sweet af.

NattieChristopher you do realise that a Labrador statically is far more likely to attack humans?!- For example all breeding and dog professionals class the SBT as the nanny dog as they are more gentle with children than ANY other dog breed! - This hatred is total media hype & complete ignorance of the general public. Disgraceful, people should do concise research before writing / extreme prejudices.
It is how you raise a dog, I have owned collies, jack Russell's, German shepherds & two Staffies and I can speak without doubt that I had far greater trust with regard to safety of others with the SBT than with any of the other breeds.
The British Kennel Club still class the SBT as the Nanny Dog - They are experts who converse with owners, Breeders, veterianans so I conclude they are far more versed than the prejudice British public who read bias articles in the press!
With extensive knowledge and research all the statistics prove -you are far more likely to be bitten or to be shown aggressive behaviour by breeds such as Labs, jacks, Lhasa Apsos, Yorkies, etc SBT are very much lower down on the list. Please research statistics/facts before spreading bias hatred!

I agree this is wrong but murder is the unlawful killing of one human by another, regardless of whether killing these dogs is right or wrong, it is unlawful in the uk and they aren’t humans. The divide between what’s human and what isn’t is what makes this lawful unfortunately

I think it really is a “stupid law.” I mean really only dogs who have caused severe violent crimes (such as injuring a child) or whatever but just because of their breed that really should definitely go against all or RSPCA’s rules and regulations. I think this law should definitely change, ring the animal welfare rights and also get them his law amended in someway. Not all “banned breeds are violent” and that dogs should be trialled in a similar way as “humans” [perhaps] that only that dogs gets put down if they are too violent and too uncontrollable but not just because of their breed that is classified as discrimination. Pitbulls can turn on their owners. When they bite your limb their jaw lock and they feel comfortable. They wont let you go
This is just not correct. Pits are demonstrably more aggressive. That's what they were bred for.
Pitbulls were bred to love fighting, like labs love water. Obviously it's largely down to how they are raised, but it's in their gene history. There's been many cases where perfectly well behaved Pittbulls have attacked their owner, some kind of freak incident. Personally I'd never fully trust them.

Pitbulls have the potential to be extremely dangerous. More dangerous than a lot of breeds. They are very powerful and energetic. They also have a high pain tolerance and are hard to disengage once in a conflict with another dog or person. They can be dangerous when the owner gives it human traits and pretends its as harmful as a gerbil. Shelters neeed to stop advertising pits as awesome family dogs who are gentle. It just ends up with more of them going to shelters. Most people cant train them properly or give them enough exercise. Especially busy families. Dogs home alone all day most days. Thats not good for pitbulls at all. So many idiots on here. "Used to be nanny dogs" lmfao. Ya and bears raised boys in the jungle too.
@@nonofyourbusiness7631 They're actually not very energetic at all, as with any dog they do sometimes get the zoomies. Their energy levels are nothing compared to a German Shepherd or a Husky. They are family dogs who are very gentle, as long as they're raised correctly. You can't let them run over you and get away with anything, they have to know who the boss is. They're very hard headed but can be really great family pets. I have 3 pitties who are all trained (and even do tricks and perform tasks). So yeah, they are great dogs and I'll never not own one.

You always muzzle them when going to a pet store or dog park. Yes you can take them to the dog park but ALWAYS have them on leash. This breed should not be human aggressive at all they should not have that in there genetics and if they do then they are being breed wrong and APBT that is human aggressive should be put down I know it sounds hard but it’s true these dogs are VERY VERY VERY athletic and can easily jump a 12 foot gate and attack a human but the APBT with the right socialization should be loving towards humans. The main issue is irresponsible breeding (using dogs selected for traits desirable for fighting, aggression, etc.) and then ignorant people buying dogs from these irresponsible breeders
Any breed of dog can be dangerous, they reflect their owners, if they aren't trained by their owners, then the owner is liable. It's not fair to blame the dog.

Vexilator, they actually aren't, they may look strong and may be strong but they aren't aggressive. On a tolerance test pits got a higher sucess rate than golden retrivers. I think they scored about 86% if I'm correct. A lot of the wrong people are attracted to people because they think they look cool. Because of these owners not caring for there pits they become aggressive and give the whole breed a bad rap. My pitbull was the oposite of aggressive, whe would never hurt a fly. In the majority of the attacks done by pitbulls the dogs are either on a chain or being owned by young imature people who don't give the dog propper training. Also no one talks about the times chihuahuas attack people because of how little damage they can do. If you want to see a aggressive dog search how I relax petting dog and watch the first thing that pops up.

There's also a genetic component to this, pitbulls were specifically bred for fighting and blood sports. An owner can bring up a pit bull very well and it still ends up attacking someone or another dog.

I purchased an XL bullie puppy but we found out his bloodline was from red nosed fighting dogs from back yard breeding and his behaviour become very aggressive so I gave him to the RSPCA and I said so not let this dog go to any family with children. Up in greater Manchester people are breeding fighting dogs especially the red nosed types and they can be fine as a puppy but aggressive as they get older

I’ve been to Battersea to try and foster a pet before and their selection process is ridiculous I ended up just buying my pets privately and they are happy living together just fine. I love them they interact good with each other cuddling etc, and wouldn’t have it any other way. just a shame I wasn’t able to foster one in need because of their ridiculous policies 🙄 I know many other people who have been in this situation also

@@eamonhunter8978 for example, no garden, house to small, young kids, must work for a living or they just don’t like your face. I know a few people wanted to adopt or foster and got turned down for exactly these reasons, they bought from a breeder and are now happy.

My cousin owned a 1quarter pit mixed breed. They had it for 7 years. One day in 1976 it attacked and tore apart their little 6 year old boy. Pits are a dangerous breed
