  • What if you had a stroke, is it possible to get your stroke arm stronger? Yes it is. And if you want to get that stroke arm stronger, then you need to watch this video.
When you have a stroke and your arm is affected, getting it stronger is a slow process. You have to calibrate properly so that you will get the maximum results. You cannot pick up 100 pound weights if you cannot pick up 10 pound weights yet, right? So let us do step-by-step exercises to get your stroke arm stronger. But before you move in, you should have somme movement and control in that arm. If you don’t, watch the video on how to wale up your stroke arm.
First exercise is arm swinging. If you don’t have good balance yet, please sit down. Lean towards your weaker side and let your arm hang. Keep that arm relaxed then swing it back-and-forth 10 times, side to side 10 times and in circles 10 times this will allow gravity to assist and getting your shoulder stronger.
Second exercise is cane exercises. If you don’t have a good hand and finger strength yes, secure your hand to the cane. You will pull the cane back-and-forth 10 times, bring it side to side 10 times and in circles 10 times.
Third exercise is a table wiping. Use a washcloth or a hand towel. You’re going to bring your stroke arm back-and-forth, side to side and in circles 10 times. This will also target your shoulders and your scapular muscles.
Fourth exercise is elbow windshield wiper. You are still going to Use a washcloth or a hand towel. You’re going to bend your elbow and then bring it back straight again 10 times.
Fifth exercise is assisted elbow bending. You are going to assist your stroke arm With your stronger arm midway towards your shoulder. How old that position for five seconds for 5 repetitions.
Sixth exercise is forearm rolling. In this exercise you are going to assist your forearm in pronation and supination or forearm facing up or facing down. Do this 10 times.

Could you do a high level video to go over the various stages of UE REHAB from Stroke, including symptoms and challenges of each stage, from paralysis, spasticity to Strengthening. It will be helpful to include a playlist to the individual video of each stage that you have made to get additional information. Thanks!
It kind of gives a roadmap of what to expect and be prepared for. I made the mistake of skipping forward to working on the hand before the shoulder and elbow was ready.

Thank you for these great exercises, Nathan. After I had a stroke, the doc gave me an alcohol shot in the armpit to reduce spasticity. It seems to have ruined my bicep. There's no muscle tone in it now, just flab. Initially I couldn't even curl one-pound. Now I'm at least able to curl three-pounds, but the effort it takes is tremendous. Will continued weight bearing exercises help me? I don't know if this is my new normal or if I should keep pushing.

    • @SKILLSANDWELLNESS

I have been using the Motus Nova @MotusNova robotic wrist machine since May this year. My one year anniversary happened October 11th this year. I have been keeping track of my progress though it's been slow I've been recording on my phone the improvements I see so I can look back and listen when I feel down and I must say and I have seen improvements I was able to use the electric can opener which requires both hands. When I first had my stroke I couldn't even use it because I couldn't lift the can and you have to lift the can and hold it so that and then hold the top part and push down so the magnet will come out and hold the can. I was able to do that and I was able to hold the actually hold the blow dryer up. I'm still weak but I was able to hold it up higher yeah for a few seconds and that was very gratifying. The yogurt cup it doesn't droop as much when I hold it in my hand in the air I still wanted to stay longer but that was pretty good. and I have protein drinks I drink that is another area or I want my arm my wrist I want it to hold it up straight. I've noticed is my drop wrist used to kind of pop out when I lay flat and my masseuse told me look it looks flat now and I did notice this looks flat so it's helping I'm doing a lot of different things but this is definitely helping it I've done 1.2 million repetitions now.
