- Welcome to our video guide on Stroke Recovery Exercises: Overcoming Arm Stiffness. If you’re in stage 2 of stroke recovery, you might be experiencing muscle stiffness, or spasticity, and tight tendons. This can make movements, especially against gravity, challenging. You might start to regain some movement, but not fully. At this stage, passive range of motion is still crucial.
In this video, we’ll guide you through a series of occupational therapy exercises designed to help regain strength and range of motion in your arm. The exercises included are:
Trunk Rotation
Shoulder Rotation
Gentle Rocking
Diagonal Reaching
Arm Turning
Consistency is key in stroke recovery. Please be consistent with your home therapy. Let’s exercise our minds and bodies to get stronger together. Remember, every step counts when it comes to stroke recovery

2 months ago I had a stroke that turned my life upside down. Now that I'm out of rehab and on my own, your videos are a huge help.
I follow your stroke channel and I am more than enthusiastic.
Your positive charisma and the simplicity of your explanations are not only therapeutic, but also entertaining.
Keep your positivity and keep it up.
Thanks a lot for this
Nathan, My wife had a stroke 15 months ago. We have been to OT and PT at half-a-dozen specialized hospitals. We're thankful for all of their help. We recently found your videos and we go over two videos of yours everyday. You are very knowledgeable and you communicate so well and are easy to follow. We are very thankful for your expertise and help. We are providing links to your videos to our current OT/PT people.

We love you for doing these Nathan you are truly an inspiration!!!! 🫶🫶💙💚🫠🫤😐🤗💙💚🫶🤗🤗

Thank you for vedioes Sir Nathan.
If only I had accessed these videos after my five months in the rehab hospital. The work I needed had yet to be covered before I went stir crazy. In the six years since my discharge from rehab, I have used housekeeping and cooking and patio gardening to keep me flexible, strengthen me, and provide the repetitive movement I need. Since my stroke wasn’t treated for 15 hours, stiffness of the knuckles has been equally as frustrating as weakness. I write to say your video has drawn me back to practice repetitive movements. I will look for more, save them, then create routine practice time. I have the time and the place. Thank you.
Wooooow. I truely admire your motivation. And this motivates me
Much gratitude!

Thank you Nathan for your help, your videos are very effective. My mother had an acute ischemic stroke in November 2021 and still has more stiffness in her limbs, she cannot move her arms and her hands always remain closed. Any others videos on how to open hands and fingers? and move shoulders and also her shoulders are frozen, she can't turn her back or her neck.
I do have ither videos. Type “skills and wellness stroke”
Nice video, no long explanation but just enough and easy to understand.
Thanks nadan
This is my first time hope you have more ticneks to share with us
Hello Nathan. Thank you for the exercises that you share. Very helpful.
My mom, 86 years old, had a hip surgery and stroke 3 days after. Those were 3 years ago. She didn’t have any therapy because we can’t afford the charges, not covered by any heath insurance.
Fast forward, just a month and a half ago, she had a very bad infection and it affected the prosthetic metal put 3 years ago. This surgery removed the prothetic metal.
Is there any exercise you can recommend for her legs and hips? Would greatly appreciate your recommendation. Thanks and may God bless you and the work of your hands.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge but still can't move/lift my arm so through this maybe it will help sir♥️thank you!
my love nathan has a video where you wake up the muscles in the arm it work for me and i no it will work for you be consistant everyday
You need to do it everyday. I'm watching to give my patient (I'm a care giver) therapy at home, she's 96 & she can now move her hand again since doing these. Working on her fingers now.
Thx Nathan....Gbu

So helpful, My stroke right hand side finds it hard to rotate at the last exercise on the dining table, when I tried to make it flat on top of table, the fingers obstruct 😊
Maybe the arm needs to be stretched and massaged more before doing the arm turning on yhe table

Hi sir thank you for your videos.if May I request if you can have exercises for speech impairment..
Thanks, Nathan. Please share with us how you loosen your very tight muscles after stroke. It is very good that if the arms and hands are not tight and rigid due to clenched fingers that we do some of the exercise as shown, but first how do you solve this muscle or limited movement tightness?

How to break the upper extremity synergy pattern??
First you have to inhibit it. Stretching, gentle massage, weight bearing and the like. It it where if you have flexor synergy, you need to be able to extend the arm
