  • Royal Australian Navy receives fourth evolved Cape-class patrol vessel, ADV Cape Capricorn
Citing from Jane's website, The evolved Cape class is an evolution of Austal's 58 m Cape-class patrol boat design. The newer vessels are designed with better habitability features and can accommodate a larger crew complement of 32 instead of 22.

Good to see the boys at Henderson delivering high capability vessels on time and on budget.
    Well done, Austal.

It seems that we may get new vessels (although never enough) but they are not armed to the teeth, rather whey are minimally armed for such a ship. On this basis I would not be expecting it to be armed to perform tasks any more demanding than escorting illegal boat people and chasing illegal fishermen.

That’s exactly what it is designed to do. In all the history of the RAN the patrol boats have never fired more than a .50 cal on operations since their main duties are fisheries and border control. It’s unlikely an Indonesian fishing vessel needs more than a .50 to stop it.
