All Border Guard and Coast Guard ships of any nation should be armed. An unarmed ship is not much of a threat
🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩💪👍
🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩💪👍
We can have nuclear submarines but cant have nuclear power plants. What hypocrites this Socialist Party is
They are an embarrassment; a 60m ship that can not defend itself. An angry fishing boat could match the 2 x 50Cal machine guns provided in this barebones, baseline design. As a minimum a forward main gun akin to a Typhon mk30C RWS should be installed.
@@MrTallpoppy58 And torpedoes. And VLS for 32 nuclear tipped Tomahawks. Oh, and a hardened deck for an F35. A Patriot system on a raft towed aft and a drone submarine that comes out from a secret compartment under the swimming pool should also be fitted. A Starlink system that links into satellites equipped with lasers so the ship can call on off-planet artillery support and a flare that sends the bat signal would also be great options. And of course an anti-gravity capability so the ship can utilise its 'wave motion gun'. You know it makes sense....
I hear what your saying but these are essential domestic border force vessels. If they were out gunned by a fishing boat it's not like a fishing vessel could sink it and the fishing vessel would be in for a retaliation from defence forces. There deffently are small boats capable of doing serious damage but that theat is on our boarder. If there was a threat like that it would be a quick game of F-around and find find out. Hence it's not a issue. We still have ships for that but these are for fishing/drugs, people smuggling ect.
@@lex1233 You're not very intelligent are you. Best you stop embarrassing yourself with further posts.
Hope they build them faster that the Frigates we will never get and maybe arm them.
Nice sales job. Is this a “ Show Boat “ or can it actually engage a military enemy successfuly on long Arctic military tours without US navy backup ? Just my opinion.
No milestones reached here as I see it …. This could be the most futuristic frigate ever a milestone would be the completion of a rr containerised nuclear power plant to be coupled with the futuristic laser technology weapons drones carrying say mu60 torpedoes ect ect well you get the picture
HMAS Hunter is currently under construction and isn’t expected to be commissioned until 2034…..That’s another 10 years!!
We should be building our own. It's called self reliance
AI generated click bait
If it ever happens .... chances are the Government will change their mind AGAIN and nothing but a waste of time will occur. The poor old Collins Class subs are going to be fucking antiques be the time we get AUKUS subs.
Liberal or Labor it is the same. The world is so much more dangerous and Australian Governments are more interested in votes a than Australians.
This is not news, as the very limited and lack of detail mentioned is already in the public domain.
I am a Master Mariner, saw an advert from Federal Fleet Services for a Tanker Chief Officer. Pay was only $80K. Going rate for a Tanker Chief Officer is $130K. Factor in income taxes we have to pay here and take home is less than my Filipino 2/Off was banking. Pay 3rd world wages cannot expect first world people. No thank you I will stay operating my own small business here.
A nightmare of woke and political correctness to work on that ship. Crew spends all their time in diversity training class instead of learning to operate the the ship.

@@niweshlekhak9646 No an Australian taxpayer that is helping pay these things off
Ahhh, the experts in the comment section......
Its one of the best shipyards in north America folks. Get used to it we will be building ships here for years to come.
Our brother retired Canadian Navy served on both ships before they were retired. He was the one who told me that yes they will reuse the names of the ships for new ships. Something I did not know.❤🇨🇦❤
This is not the planned completion of the F35 fleet as portrayed here. We were to acquire another 28 F35 aircraft to make up a fleet of 100 but this government has made wide arching cutbacks across the ADF including these planned aircraft, but also within the Army ( 450 armoured fighting vehicles to 130 ), nine Hunter Class frigates to six, etc etc. They would portray this as an accomplishment, a success, a victory by a responsible government, whilst they divert funds elsewhere. The Defence budget not only stagnates but shrinks below 2% of GDP under their ‘management’, but their propaganda machine would have you believe otherwise. Yes they have promised the world, more frigates, more missiles, etc - but you should ignore what they say and watch closely what they do. Watch the where the dollars go!
LOL.
So much negativity. I am a merchant marine engineer by trade, and if I were young again I would definitely apply to the navy. It seems like the next 20 years are going to be pretty interesting, with at least 3 major programs overlapping one another. Has that ever happened in the post war years? I hope young people do sign up and crew these ships. Challenging days ahead for us all.

The Lieberals have no intention of actually building a modern fleet. Mr Dress-Up, the PM, just wants a couple of photo ops and to do a little posturing. The Military is just too nasty for a socially conscious feminist like him.
An Irving project. How much of the treasure made it's way to the Trudeau Foundation?
❤
Congrats! You built some large useless tug boats. Now let's get busy building some fighting ships with some actual offensive capabilities. Our Government really needs to get these patrol ships back into a ship yard and arm them asap.
You mean to tell me that there isn't a single weapon on board that vessel???!!! Sitting ducks!!!
There are six
Goof infrastructure projects.
Why do we keep charging ship designs. 3 here, 6 there Do what the yanks do build one design and keep pumping them out like the Airleigh Burke destroyers
The Yanks have a range of ships and are getting frigates.
32 vlc what a joke
The Canadian version has even less. At least we are going to build LOSV vessels to upgrade it to 64.
I disagree…so much for thinking outside the box containerised nuclear power plants that can plug and play on this platform linked with laser beam weapons and no longer do you need oil or missiles plus drones I’d say very future proof
How many years behind are these ships already cut back to a few ships.
Australia faces significant challenges in strengthening its defence capabilities. Despite its size and resources, the nation struggles to build a fleet quickly enough, compounded by slow and cumbersome recruitment processes. Additionally, there is a notable shortage of accommodation for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, which further hampers retention and readiness. The Department of Defence prioritises administrative and cultural initiatives, such as renaming bases to First Nations names or marking annual events, over core defence capabilities. For example, contracting out base security for $1.4 billion when ADF members could achieve this and participating in events like the Sydney Mardi Gras are often cited as significant milestones from the primary mission of national security. In light of growing regional threats, such as China’s increasing assertiveness, it is critical that Australia’s defence policies and priorities shift towards building a robust, war-ready force to ensure the nation’s safety and sovereignty. Sadly Australia is challenged with a woke government who employ a woke public service whose mission is desk top bound and work shop based. It will be our down fall.
ohh, shut up. You don't get to complain about morale drop and low retention levels when you suggest they should do boring guard duty. And guess what, you're probably going to find some gay guys in an organisation that's male dominated. You complaining about culture war stuff is just as feckless as renaming bases.
There seems to be intended ambiguity about the number of VLS cells being installed in the Hunter Class. Some say it’s just 32 with eight NSM, some say 32 in front of the bridge and 32 in a reduced multimission bay, and the images shown here are of the upgraded variant offered by BAE systems which is has two banks of VLS, 32 & 64, with 16 NSM. Someone is either having us believe the Hunter Class has an Arleigh Burke AWD capability or we’re being intentionally misguided. Please elaborate on the truth.
Agree,
Were getting the shitty version because that's all australia needs
BAE have offered numerous amendments to the VLS banks. The Australian government has yet to make a decision on what they will go with.
@pwillis1589 i though they made the decision already not to modify the existing design
@jasoar1563 You are probably right. Increasing the VLS came at a cost. Forward it meant losing the gun and aft it meant losing the towed array.
Great Video. I have been watching the Hunter Class Frigates/Destroyers for some time. Here are a couple of all-new Australian songs for you for Christmas: th-cam.com/video/GpxfPrj4dVM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/DBpLhp-QyLE/w-d-xo.html
Good glad to hear it
I thought that a task force converted air craft carrier would have been better. The flight deck has cranes so that it can unload almost any where.
Obligatory “we need more sooner” comment…
I assume you have an armchair to make such a comment then?;)
Where is its 20mm Phalanx CIWS? How about a missile launcher? Not even 1 littoral RCN vessel can.properly defend itsrlf. Others here harp about armaments upgrade. Right Now Canada has two minesweepers Bsltic Sea snd two more off tense shores of Tsiwan. Total defensive deck guns?? Two WW2 machine guns in circa 1939 pedastal mounts. WTF Edit: Indonesian navy just bought brand new similar sized minesweepers armed with a 27mm Mauser auto-cannon. Also 2 missile launchers. Whats wrong with Admirsl Topsail of RCN??? Since ending of 1991 Gulf War pretend admirals have poisoned our navy from internal rot and bowing to bean counters. Careerists. Not leaders. Only fit for pretend training police constables in now failed states.
Is this one powered by coal fired steam engines, like many of the newest chinadian ships?
And they can't even launch helicopters off ship. Incompetent ship builder in Halifax.
A boat that belongs in the Coast Guard and not in any navy
I agree
Yay!! We have A ship!!
Just about every navy operates offshore patrol vessels because 90% of the tasks don't require a first tier combatant and in this case being ice strengthened it provides a capability that a regular frigate or destroyer doesn't have.
Robert Hampton Gray , pride of British Columbia ❤
Not a ship expert but this looks like a converted freighter of old. Smaller and faster would be the way to go.
It's a AOR, Auxiliary supply ship, i don't know why they keep calling it JSS anyway. The purpose of this ship is to supply fuel and food to navel vessels at sea, it also has hospital beds and can do limited to shore drops, so it can be used in a natural disaster situation.
Well holy crap, it’s even got a gun! 😂
I am glad they are keeping these names.
The Dutch royal navy is developping an exact same kind of ship. 10K tons, AA oriented and so on. Why not design and build this together?
0:20 A brand new AOP with lots of rust. Thank you.
