    Sons of Gondor, of Rohan!
    my brothers!
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me!
The day may come when the courage of men fails!
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship!
But it is not this day!
    This day we fight!
By all you hold dear on this good Earth!
    I bid you stand!
    Men of the West!
    For Frodo.

Denethor was a good ruler earlier in life.
He organized the defense of Gondor, keeping Mordor from overwhelming them, resisted the will of Sauron as he used Minas Tirith's palantir to spy on Mordor.
The Denethor we meet has lost his son and heir, paranoid from the slow damage Sauron was able to inflict, and seeing his life's work and people suffer.
Its a wonder he didn't go insane earlier.

I agree with the gate BUT they were BEHIND a wall 😉👍
Funny thing is I like the fact they breached the city. Even though I prefer the battle in the book, that's one change I did like. I just wish no ghost army.
Also gandalf had to tell the PROFESSIONAL soldiers to shoot at the trolls not the towers. I mean did they graduate at the stormtrooper school of soldiering lol
As for osgiliath, im pretty sure again it was faramirs rangers doing most of the killing.
If you haven't already you should read the book version of the battle or at least look it up. I wish we had that version

You missed a few things. Like how the White Tree was removed, in honor, as Aragorn found a sapling in the mountain. Additionally, while in the movies there is fighting within the city, in the books only the gate is shattered before the Rohirrim arrive and only the Witch King manages to enter and then only briefly as the arrival of Rohan forces him away. Finally, Arvedui, last king of the North, attempted to claim the Kingship as his wife was the daughter of King Ondoher, but he and his descendants were discounted by the Stewards. Oh, and it wasn't Earnur II, it was Earnur. There was no other king named Earnur. And the Reunited Kingdom was said to retake all the lost territory of both Gondor and Arnor, but as the Reunited Kingdom is a successor state I guess it doesn't count.
The other thing you could have mentioned were the great works done by Gondor, such as Orthanc, the walls of Minas Tirith, and the Argonath.

Us Easterlings are bad, and my friend OP here is not even on the map ;) I'm of course mostly joking, but I do agree with OP that I see some parallels with Eastern Roman Empire. First Crusade was after the Great Schism. So it doesn't count. Especially since it was shown that Crusades went mostly after the wealth of Byzantine Empire than after fighting the "infidels".

Fun fact; The seven stars on the sigil of Gondor represent the Sickle of the Valar- a constellation put in the northern sky of Arda by one of the gods (Varda), as a threat and sign of hope for the eventual defeat of all evil in Arda.
The stars represent the loyalty of Gondor to both the Noldor (elves) and Valar (gods).

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

they also represent the seven ships that the Faithful rode as their home was taken beneath the waves. It is some coincidence that it matches the stars of the High Elves. The White Tree and Seven Stars was the exclusive livery of the King and the Guards of the Fountain.

Should have talked about how Aragorn reformed the kingdom of Arnor and united the two. Mention could have also been given to Dol Amroth as well as the giving of Isengard to Saruman. And the treaties made between the Reunited Kingdom and the disparate groups, such as the Dwarves, the men of Dale, and the Hobbits. And how all territories previously controlled by Gondor were reconquered under Aragorn's rule.

We do not accept such heresy.
No single game has failed and ignored Tolkien More, to even give such a shameful display recognition is to shit upon a great work.

They never distroyed the wall of MinasTirith, only that of the Rammas Echor. Sauron's army dident even get inside the first wall expect on top of the wall. (Sorry bad English)

they destroyed the Great Gate with Grond the battering ram. The walls of Minas Tirith are made out of the same material as Orthanc, i.e invincible.

During the Fourth Age he led the Conquests of Umbar, and thusly would have raised taxes to pay for his army.

Wow I love this channel! Lucky to have found it. I have a request.
Bungies Destiny universe is quite interesting, even though their game doesn't do a very good job of immersing us in the lore I think that if you would dig into the various factions and create a video out of that, that would be absolutely awesome.
    Cheers!

But hope is rising in the North. Rumours tell that a great weapon, one that could turn the tide of war has been rediscovered in the ruins of Arnor, and that a ranger, one who bears the blood of Kings, is resurfacing. The heir to the Steward has traveled to meet with the elves of the hidden valley Imladris, and the kingdom places their hopes in this man returning with something that can finally bring Sauron to his knees

The Interim Coalition of Governance in Stephen Baxter's Xeelee sequence would make for an outstanding video, I think. The deep lore for them is lacking, but their history and their millenia-long war against the Xeelee is extremely awesome.

Still, always glad to see more LotR related stuff on TH-cam!
