The tips in this video are amazing, thank you!! Here are a few of my own ive learned over the years, i hope they help all of you at least a bit! ^^
For drawing not only eyes but qlso anatomy in general is to draw both of the same thing at once. Eyes? Draw hoth at once, step by step. Legs? Both at once, step by step. This doesnt always apply to arms but if youre struggling try it out.
When shading your drawing, imagine the source and put it on the canvas/paper. Make sure its a circle, its important for this next step. Now, take a ruler(or any other long flat thing to draw straight lines or the line tool if ur drawing digital), and align it from the light source to an egde of your drawing. For example; the hair, a hand in front of the face or raised. Now anything better nd that line can have shadow. Try to imagine any parts of your drawing that may stick out and avoid this shadow, like shoulders. My dad gave me this advice a year ago and i use it to this day, and though hes jot an artist himself, its stuck with me and helped me do difficult rendering.
This tip was technically used in the video, but i have a few additions to it. PLEASE. USE. REFERENCES. I can NOT express this enough. Even if its not the same creature, it can help SO much. For example, dragons are mythical creatures that dont actually exhist in the real world, but are based off of and similar to some other real species. For example, their origin is dinosaur fossils. People would find them, and not knowing what they truly were, created the myths and legends we know today. So when drawing these mythical wonders, dont be afraid to use winged dinos like the pterodactyl as a reference if youd like. Another thing you can use is bats for the wings, as most western dragons seem to have wings based off of the flying mammals. For anatomy, you can use cats, dogs, horses- even axolotls. Doesnt matter. Its a mythical creature, and you can bend and stretch the anatomy as much as youd like. If youd like, try to how it works, and incorporate that into your art.
