Yung 1995 elections poster niya hango Kay Ate Guy and her jingle was from Laura Brannigan/Tozi.
GMA was the only post-1986 president who led her party/coalition in 4 general elections (2001, 2004, 2007, & 2010) with an 8-5 PPC win in 2001, her reelection win in 2004, TEAM Unity winning only 2 seats in 2007, & Gibo losing in 2010.

Parang GMA was on a double-edged sword in terms of how to market herself. Main competitor niya nung 2004 was FPJ and if she tried to do a "masa-appealing" ad (aakbay at tatawa kasama ng mga bata at construction worker), aasarin lang siya because it will look transparently phony.
On the other hand, if she did a commercial that's reflective of her (tulad nga nito na English, puros mga visits and meetings that the average person wouldn't care about or understand) sasabihin naman na out of touch siya.
well she had no other choice she needed to show an ad but either way she had her own supporters (big or small) so it doesn’t matter if her had was masa or about her
My mom was a GMA supporter back then, and her biggest frustration was GMA being naive with PR. Like yung walk out eme niya during a presscon. And even that "I am sorry" thing.
@@juanchoresultay2704I think she knew that naman, which is good for her. Marami kasing mga politico na tone-deaf na ipipilit gumawa ng masa-type ads and ang awkward tignan (Manny V, Roxas) o kaya naman "how do you do kids" like what happened with Leni's hadouken.
It's interesting how GMA went from winning the 1998 VP race with a 7 million vote margin to having to claw her way to victory in the 2004 polls. I wonder whether the antagonism she faced from Estrada supporters (due to his ouster and the brutal response to EDSA Tres) were factors in this.
@@privatecm3789 VP is usually a two-person race historically kaya dikit (see Leni-BBM, Castro-Legarda, Binay-Roxas). GMA's victory was an outlier because her competition sucked and she was in a ticket with Erap. She had trouble in 2004 for that exact reason - FPJ is pretty much Erap but 1000x more popular.

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was Philippine first female House Speaker of the House of Representatives from July 23, 2018 to June 30, 2019 was appointed during Third State of the Nation Address of former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018 replacing Davao Del Norte Representative Pantaleon Alvarez until term ends due to the term limits. Arroyo was served to Senior Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from July 25, 2022 to May 17, 2023.

You know what I realized? This is probably the earliest PH presidential TV ad to be available online 😲 Did PH presidential candidates not have TV ads before 2004? If that's the case, this phenomenon would have been surprisingly late in our country. Most pre-2004 presidential campaign ads that I've come across were done for radio.

Hmm.. If I remember correctly, may documentary noon for EDSA Revolution na may pinakitang TV political ads both si Marcos Sr. and Cory Aquino.. Medyo rare lang makakita ng TV political ads before 2004.
@@danngarcia Maybe it just has to do with the slow evolution of our production standards. This one by GMA was considered polished in '04 based on the other comments, while it reminds me of a low-budget safety video a US airline would have made in the the 90s (th-cam.com/video/oGLU-TCmKAA/w-d-xo.html).

Say what you want about her (I’m not a pro or anti arroyo though ) , this ad is not really bad (except nung nag tsaa siya and yung pandaraya niya ☠️)
Pero too high class. Sa masa ang target market mo eh para marehab ang image ni Gloria. Ndi nagwork ang fact na US-educated siya and mabango ang professional track record nya to match the taste of the ordinary viewing public at that time.
