Man this is actually my favorite game in the entire series for one reason: its environmental storytelling. What i really like about this game is its way it uses its levels to tell the story of Crash on his journey. Like he starts on the sandy beaches of N. Sanity Beach, then travels across the quiet jungles and rolling stones, to ending up in abandoned dungeons and temple ruins, to finally stepping foot in the industrialized third island where wildlife mightve been harmed and toxic waste pollutes the island of its clean air. The final boss fight is a truly great conclusion to the story as the castle and its industrial buildings are set on fire which really shows how much Crash really "crashed" his way to the top to save his girlfriend.

Even at the start, it's just a regular beach that has an old boat on it, hinting that there's civilization nearby, following the path leads up to a temple that might be a checkpoint/lookout that the natives use, so then Crash continues on through the jungle on the other side, as you keep going you start to see a bunch of the traps they set up to ward off intruders, meaning you must be close to the village now.
Then eventually Crash finds himself at their gates which are obviously locked up and there's no way to go around the island, so he starts to climb along their walls trying to find a way through while fending off their patrolling guards, you see some of the wildlife also hang around outside the walls too.
Crash finally finds a way inside and run into the village's biggest, most dangerous trap yet: a rolling boulder. He barely avoids that and finds himself at a river and follows it, this is probably where the village get their drinking water from too, following it leads to the main town and Crash realizes he's not too welcome, so is chased and he hides inside a nearby hut. Which turns out the be the chieftain's hut. He's not too happy being woken up so you give him the ol' Crash Bandicoot Handshake and quietly exit through his thatch roof.
On the other side of the town are more traps between parts of the village, but nothing as dangerous as the boulder here, perhaps the village possibly expect raids from rival tribes coming from the beach side and set up their more lethal traps over there.
This side is significantly less refined, almost like the village isn't finished being built yet. But Crash is at the last stretch now and the path is mostly clear besides alot more huts, he gets the bright idea to make a quick exit via freeing one of their captured boars and using it to mad rush right through to the other side, this area is likely where they keep their livestock and prepare food for the whole village. Crash then finally gets to the other gate, which is also locked, and so has to climb up and over the wall again to leave, here being a massive totem that maybe acts like a marker of the village, almost like a lighthouse, or even a status symbol between tribes... And there we go, that was alot of detail and that was just for analyzing N. Sanity Island.

Definitely the longest video and script I've ever created. I went over a lot so please let me know what you enjoy and didn't. I'd love some critiques on the video and script so comment what you'd like. I plan on the Cortext Strike's Back video in the future if there someone that enjoys this video
PS. There’s a tier list at the end I’m making for Crash Games as we go through videos

I completely agree with your points about the progression. As a kid I remember being so excited to reach each level because it felt like a journey and I was exploring these cool islands. I totally relate to trying to piece to together the lore of these temples and abandoned structures lol. Also agree with Cortex's fight in 1 being peak. It felt so epic with the background and everthing.

Hey dude! After watching this video and the one on Crash 2 I really get the feeling you apreciate how games feel among other things which is something I often feel like I'm alone in.
When other's talk about Crash Bandicoot they often praise the visuals, criticise the difficulty in certain levels and so on... but they never talk about how the games feel. Sure you do that too but you don't stop at that.
I'm sure Crash Bandicoot 1 - 2 are the reason I enjoy tropical island settings in games so much, I'm certain Crash Twinsanity is the reason I love all these island inhabitant tiki stuff and I'm positive that if Crash Bandicoot: Warped wouldn't have ended up in my hands back when I was like 6 years old I wouldn't still be gaming and enjoying it to this day.
The impact this franchise had on me is nothing to scoff at and wumpa island is still the first place that comes to mind when someone tells me to think of my "happy place" because it simutaniusly feels like the most relaxing and peacefull place anyone ever came up with and like one big outdoor-adventure park that offers all the fun in the world.

Truly speaks volumes about how I and others feel about the this adventure and journey in crash 1 seeing the cortex castle from the first level and getting close more and more as you continue through levels, the change of environment as traversing from living jungle island with it Residents to abandoned lost cities where left you question what happened them to factories of machinery of robots and toxic waste and reaching the castle is really REALLY Unforgettable journey that set crash 1 for me apart from the sequels
You really expressing the feeling of every crash 1 fans this retrospective is just amazing

I couldn't agree more with the discussion about how people perceive Crash Bandicoot to be this hardcore plataformer when in reality it never was.
Even tho i love Crash Bandicoot 4 i really wish it didn't go the frustratingly difficult route just because some youtubers and journalists created that perception.
Good thing they didn't make a sequel to that turning crash into a souless pvp game that died in a couple months at least heh
    Great video mate 👍

First off really well done and well organized video 👏
Second based on your last statement towards CB 4 IAT I agree with what you said on Crash not being a hard platformer. What made him a success is the fun experience throughout every game. With the exception of CB 1 only being hard because it’s the first and every first game is like testing waters for what’s to come in a game. The sequel if that said game is where the developers usually fix the issues with the controls or other things people complain about.
Which brings me to my third notion. I have a theory that CB 4 IAT was only hard because people would complain about the CB series being too hard but honestly with all respect it sounds like a skill issue. Then TFB took those “it’s too hard” reviews/statements from people into consideration thus making CB 4 IAT a really really really x’s 💯 a hard game!

Thanks to your videos I went back and started playing again. I’m playing the OG disc and it’s extremely difficult. However, in that difficulty I find my family and I are having lots of fun when we die so many times with crash and then finally pull it off and we celebrate. I think with an action replay option, this game would be a lot easier to complete 100% imo.

As mentioned this game has the perfect sensation of feeling like a journey, but there's also something else that OG Crash 1 did well but N.Sane dropped the ball on.
There's a big feeling of satisfaction in this game when you realise just how athletic its platforming can be. Take Lights Out or Road to Nowhere for example, you can just blitz the level and do full jumps without needing to stop.

I agree that the warp rooms are a bit anti climactic. It reminds me of Rayman legends, how they got rid of the world map from origins and just did a level gallery thing. There’s something extra satisfying about going through levels on a world map vs a gallery room

crash bandicoot and rayman actually have some interesting similarities:
    1. the first games in both series are extremely hard

@chef_boysauce4399 Mario Kart DS and 7 and probably 8 (I played it once), the NS series, I can't judge 64 but I played the remake and it is my favorite DS game which is still in the shadow of the original, Party DS, World, 3D World is held as the better version of 3D Land, Galaxy 2 is held as better than 1. Crash has the PS1 games except Bash, the remade trilogy and the remade racer. Twinsanity and Wrath Of Cortex and Tag Team Racing and Nitro Kart are famous for being subpar with the fans spending all their time obsessing over what could've happened. Crash has been dead for ages for a reason; the good games he has are remakes. Have you even played the Crash Bandicoot Fortnite clone? Neither have I, did you even know it existed? Probably not, it's shit.
