@7311147 Hi. You can't begin a game of backgammon with a double because the first roll is made by both players with a die each to determine who plays first. The player with the higher number roll makes the first move with the numbers rolled. If the dice values are the same, then the players re-roll. I explain this more fully in part 4 of my previous series of videos, "Backgammon for complete beginners".
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all these videos. The software you recommended has an iPad version that I have been player for the last few night. What a great game!
Thanks for saying so :) Glad you're enjoying the game. I've tried a few programs on Android, but no yet owning an ipad, I haven't been able to compare the versions.
All games have certain 'game theory' concepts in common. I like several games from chess to poker to monopoly and find there are similarities in strategy for all these games.
The backgammon app I play allows doubles on first go and seems 6-6 is best roll you can get. The app seems to allow way too many doubles for random it seems but hard to say.
@DancingMadRB3 :) That's fine! Each to their own. It's just that to my way of thinking, using mahjong tiles for solitaire is a little like owning a deck of cards and only using them to play snap.
Poor analogy, using a deck of cards ONLY for 'Snap' is a waste of a resource. Using Mahjong tiles to play solitaire is a nice EXTRA way to handle/use/show off your tiles. Also, wayyyy tooo much preamble, over 3 minutes in before you get down to it.
@@mobiusklein9140 It's only a nice extra if you're even aware of the traditional game. The solitaire variant is so ubiquitous, that many players are led to think that that IS in fact Mahjong, which I think is a great pity.
nice intro. i would have liked to know also, what to do with a 3 and 1 for example if u already used it for the correct opening move, and u get it again. what is the next best move with the 3 and 1... and so on with the other opening moves. cheers.
I can not find Backgammon Beyond Beginner: 3. Openings (2 of 5) - The No-brainers ... Has it been taken off? Thanks, BTW, for these videos. They have helped me immensely! Husband doesn't want to play with me any longer. :( LOL I think I might have found it. Is the first that I should have watched actually in this second series? Backgammon Beyond Beginner: 1. Dice Distribution (1 of 2)
It's been a while since I've tried any, and I don't think any that I did try were multiplayer. I recall one was by AI Factory, which was a solid and well presented game, but it didn't have any analysis capability, and the level of play, though perfectly competent, I doubt would trouble many professional players :) It did offer a free version, though, and would be fine for most.
What apps have you tried for Android? I'm looking for a good multi-player one. I've found two so far, but one is super laggy and the other is aesthetically ugly.
I wish I can face u on 1 on 1. I would give you 11 shakers to hit . Yet I'll take my game to The next level. The part when you would say ( I give up ) 😂
Dude, you take TOO MUCH TIME. I'm very sure you have good advice but this is 2022 - folks won't watch you're slow talking, slow to get to a point, frustrating way. Get to it fast.
Superb, clear instructions. I am glad that you emphasise the need to maximise opening moves to advantage from what the dice show. Subscribed too!
These are great foundational openers that the aspiring advanced player can build off of. Analogous to learning "the Sicilian opening" in chess, etc.
Very nice board you have there!
first move not showen until 3:20 min into vid

What about the 6/4 move. It does bury two pimps very deep but they are both safe. You get one in and one off the six point however.
Yeah, I also thought that is a better idea to get one out and one on four.
Hello, can you do.a video explaining how to play LONG BACKGAMMON PLEASE.
The backgammon app I play allows doubles on first go and seems 6-6 is best roll you can get. The app seems to allow way too many doubles for random it seems but hard to say.

why is it you cannot start a game of backgammon with doubles?
just learning to play
Charles Kim he is being facetious. The first roll decides who goes first. Trying to be smart

Life's a marathon, sir, not a sprint.
