NEVER TOO SMALL Waterside Italian Two Bedroom Tiny Apartment - 35sqm/376sqft

  • Inspired by the tightly designed interiors of sailing boats, llabb architecture converted this 70’s open plan studio apartment into a two bedroom home without expanding its 35sqm footprint. By creating a multi-functional storage unit on the rear wall, llabb was able to compartmentalise the apartment and embed 2 concealed bedrooms stacked on top of each other; while a long wooden strip creates a distinct ‘waterline’ that leads the eye into the living space. Still maintaining a fully featured but compact kitchen, bathroom and dining space, Riviera Cabin contains everything needed for complete and complex living.

      This is going into my inspiration folder. My husband and I are planning to sell our little townhouse and buy an empty section and each build our own home...the shells are going to be small and share a wall, we each will have only 40m2. I want to still be able to host my daughter and her boyfriend with me in mine but ensure privacy for night and fit mine and their large dogs...I was considering cupboard beds but I think a modified version of this, specifically customized to my needs would be perfect.

    • @gabriele7381
      @gabriele7381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    • @gabriele7381
      @gabriele7381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @Coni Glione well it is nice to see different concepts, this one was inspired by the living spaces in boats. It makes me laugh when architects use unrefined plywood because they remind them of "japanese minimalism". Sometimes it is also important to respect the building and the context.

    • @Halbmond
      @Halbmond 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Plywood is an amazing material but it always confuses me as well when they leave it naked. I’d always either paint it or veneer it. Naked, it might fit into an industrial interior style, but I think it looks bare and unappealing, and would look so much nicer with a pretty veneer - even in an industrial interior.

    • @kdvytdgui.ghuecysgupv
      @kdvytdgui.ghuecysgupv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Coni Glione If it's "marine" then I don't see how it could be non-laminated or at least have some coat of something. I guess that was the look they were going for. I personally only like it in theory, but in real life I don't like it. It reminds me of ferry lobby or an 70s camper (although I never stayed in one). I am glad this interior has other sources of "warmness"

      A small summer house is perfect. It’s a place where family and friends choose to gather together. To laugh, drink wine, eat good food, share stories and enjoy the outdoors. This notion of smallness comes from years spent at my grandparents cottage (Canadian term for summer house) Small, intimate, house with a screened in veranda which spanned the width of the lakeside building. The veranda allowed for protected observation of rainstorms as well as the enjoyment of eating lunch and enjoying late afternoon apéros together.

With an actual storage potential and everyday functionality, without compromising the overall beautiful and understated esthetics. And all in, what it looks to be, an affordable manner (Ikea is not a dirty word after all). "Small spaces need to have their complexity", what a perfect final statement. I would tweak the design to have storage where the first bedroom is (lower ceiling) so the top bedroom could be more spacious, with the panels open (preferably screened to keep out mosquitos, a mosquito in a small and possibly hot space in summer would freak me out) that would be really nice :)

    This is beautiful. I also love seeing small spaces inspired by boat building, because they're always creative yet simple.

    Combining white with wood or wood color always results in a successful formula. The two mini rooms one on top of the other is simply great. Congratulations to the arquitect.

    the layered bedrooms are absolutely genius! I was so shocked when I saw how specious the master bedroom is. It isn't like a cubicle, you can still effectively have a private space of your own sharing such a small flat wowwowow

    Love Italian design, the best, even when they’re using Swedish cabinets🤫
    The stacked bedrooms are gorgeous, particularly the parent’s room with the stunning ribbed ceiling that is echoed by the open shelving.
    Smart to have shelving in the front of the sleeping unit to add both visual interest and color continuity.
