When I see architect work like that, I understand the difference between home and place to live. It also speaks volume for the architect who brings humanity and craft into the project. A very good choice for Harriet ❤
Liz described herself and Alex as being part of the 'emerging architect contingent' but I am here to tell you both have worked at highly esteemed Tasmanian architectural practices doing fabulous domestic and commercial architecture here in the state. Both are award winning, both at university and in their careers. I had the pleasure of working with Liz as a draftsperson many years ago when she was straight out of uni and I can attest to not only her wonderful design & practical skills but also her lovely nature. So... very pleased they have launched a practice together. All the best Liz & Alex!
It's wonderful to see a project that is not driven by ego of the home owner or the architects, and is instead based on quality of life and balance with their surroundings. Very thoughtful approach and consideration in use of materials - budget-friendly, long-lasting and yet not a compromise in function or aesthetic outcome.
Wanted a beach house but didn’t like the beach. Boom. Love that! I grew up on the water and for a couple years we had a constant east wind straight at the house and it drove me nuts. I like being near the water but not on the water. This idea is awesome
This is such a beautiful home!! Amazing that the door's threshold is 200 hundred years old. Beautifully done integrating a heritage home with a new build.
You should be so, so proud! This feels so respectful: of the original historic cottage, of its owner, of the setting, of the materials, and of the environment. The sculptural walls and vaulted ceiling with the rising wall of green behind give me the impression of a catacomb or historic cellar but with a wonderful connection to light and the outdoors. I really like it and am deeply envious of Harriet. Thank you for sharing the space with us all.
Love it! Love it! Again, at last a REAL HOME! Superb design to the brief. A solid, long lasting " home for life". Nothing showy or bling. Simply solid and sound. Yes a home to live in, grow in and feel at home. Brick, timber and nature literally out of the back door. This is something very special. Thank You for sharing.
This home generates and exudes warmth. Such a nice mix of new and old. The arched ceiling is stunning. The outdoor space is like a beautiful piece of art. What a gorgeous home.
beyond gorgeous home. attention to detail is amazing the craftsmanship is incredible and to be able to create an extension of a classic home is so difficult to do right
I'm never disappointed by the designs on the LOCAL PROJECT. And I'm always deeply inspired, and confounded by these designs. In this episode, how the "materials sit together"😍love that. What draws me to this channel is that I know that I'm always going to be surprised, inspired, and moved by what I see. I always love the genius ways in which all of the projects make outdoor and indoor spaces intrinsic. And I never forget that the film makers in these episodes is also passionate and skilled in their creations.
Thank you for the kind words of support. We're glad you're enjoying our content and we hope to continue inspiring you with the projects we showcase on our channel 🙌
Please note that using bricks as indoor flooring is *not* handy: It is cumbersome to clean (cracks, crevices & gets dusty easily). You cannot easily mope or use a vacuum robot on this type of flooring. Please research maintenance possibilities beforehand if you are considering it for your projects. It will save you issues down the road.
I love the colors. Brick is old and stable material and we have it on the fasade. I love the color of the bathroom such a bold choice and modern touch. I miss really seeing the house and rooms. This is just esteticly well done edditing.
Its so lovely, I had to watch the video twice (or more). The choice of materials is outstanding! Especially the kitchen tile! Still confused about the wall garden being vertical though which is a fantastic idea but why? Being a small space wouldn't you want to use every inch of foot print? (also, Feng Shui would tell you its bad for your chi to have front door in line with rear cos it can run out! lol) Still, very enjoyable to hear how you arrived at design choices. Very warm and calming spaces. Thanks very much.
We're thrilled you enjoyed the video so much. The choice of materials, especially the kitchen tile, is indeed outstanding. The vertical wall garden maximises greenery in a small space and adds a unique touch.
Limited thoughtful choices of materials link a quiet procession of special spaces. Nothing labored or over-the-top. Should age as well as the 1830 cottage.
It feels less like I'm being invited into the home, and more like I'm peeking through their windows and sneaking around. "🪟 👀 Ah yes, there's some sort of table in this room " 5:28 " 🧍♂️ 🚪 👀 Ope hes home, hope he doesn't open the closet I'm hiding in"
4:52 I like the brick aesthetic, but a detail like this seems like a big thermal bridge - the interior floor is directly connected to the outside. I assume energy performance was not a consideration in this project.
I enjoyed the use of brick flooring indoors and extending it to joinery. However, the bricks do not flow at the same level to the outdoor area. This was a missed opportunity to have the same material indoors and out in a way which extended both areas. Instead the brick step, with different orientation of the bricks, breaks the flow and makes both areas smaller. It’s also not ideal for aging in place
IDK how I feel about the texture of brick as a floor. I Feel like it would be uncomfortable or would need to have rugs down everywhere covering up the brick, defeating the purpose of the brick on the floor as a design element
Why can I not find any credits for the beautiful copyrighted music used in this production? You've credited everyone else, including the traditional owners of the land, but it is okay to use copyrighted music? I hope you edit this clip in the coming days to credit the musician's.
The color tone is unified and harmonious, and the space is handled very comfortably. However, the tiling method used for residential materials is not practical. For those who love cooking, using mosaic tiles for the kitchen countertop is too time-consuming and labor-intensive to clean. Unless I have a housekeeper, maintaining cleanliness is a challenge.
The house is quite esthetically pleasing but completely impractical. The brick is a dirt magnet, porous and rough so impossible to clean unless it's sealed. The wood slats arch, while beautiful to look at, is impossible to clean, dust and insects are going to get in between the slats and I don't see anyone climbing a step ladder with a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the ceiling and walls.
Why do so many modern Australian renovations include such a huge ugly extension tacked onto the back of a heritage front? With the extension taking up a huge % of the rear garden?

I absolutely love this build. It has so much warmth and soul, despite there being so much brick work. Wonderful.

We agree!
such a cosy and warm atmosphere
I resonate with all the comments - beautiful, respectful architecture. I especially loved the garden.
Do you mean you vibrate when you read the comments -- or that the comments resonate with you when you read them? just interested.

Lovely project.
Small local architects 'do it better' because they can offer you that personal experience.
The tiling in the kitchen is unbelievable, just fantastic.
I love Tasmania... it is a treasure to be preserved... including architecture...
WoW, a great amalgamation of time, nature & material. One of the most interesting re-imaginings I've seen. Bravo.
We're glad you enjoyed it!

One of the most beautiful houses I've seen. I find Australian ID is another level of amazing.
It really is!
This was one of the most soothing and best videos you have created to date.
honestly, this is the best house on this channel
That garden is phenomenal.
landscaping is brilliant

The most beautiful home I've ever seen!
Very beautiful, well done designers, builders, and dreamers.
We're glad you enjoyed Harriet's House 🙌
What a great space to live in👍❤️👍
What a wonderful home. That looks like a place that I could really relax into. Well done.
I would have loved to see more of this home. This wasn't really a tour at all, just an advertisement for brick.
I like that scrap fabric mural on the wall. Or whatever it is. Can't really tell. It looks like it's fabric.
And love the sloped garden.
I love the colors. Brick is old and stable material and we have it on the fasade.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻bravo ….beautiful design !
I simply adore this house!
Cheers & mabuhay, from my end--the Philippines!
I wanted to see more of the original cottage not just the extension 😢
Totalmente! Me intriga saber cómo unieron las construcciones y qué tanta luz puede llegar a la parte original. 🤔
Gorgeous, homey, timeless!
Simple looking and beautiful, well thought out design. Bravo
This requires a lot of talent and skills. 🧡🧡
Mrs Liz Walsh.. your glasses are glorious. LOVE them.
Très joli projet : la maison de mes rêves ! J'adore !
Beautiful, simple, cozy ❤️ Wonderful soft color palette & as usual, professional representation by the channel 💡🪽🤍
I want to take a cup of coffee in that beautiful garden!
Beautiful garden.. Beautiful house

I need to know where the kitchen backsplash tiles are from? They're stunning.
They're by inax called yohen border 👍
@@Emmaishome Thank you!
Warm vibes
After rain all moisture will lay on your floor.
Love it❤

I love brick buildings 💚 as a U.S. West Coaster, I wonder how they can be made earthquake safe . . .
Awesome

Красиво и жить хочется
Lovely
ia the house tour in the room with us? this is an ad for the materials (while lovely) used. all concept

This somehow does not come together for me.

How is this a 'tiny' home?......... I mean, really people. Get some perspective.
Why do you always have the music drowning out the narration, really no need for the music at all
Lots of closeups of the brick. Stand back so we can also understand the space. Would it disappoint the sponsor?
@@gregpendrey6711 yes too many closeups, hard to understand the whole space,
That monotone greenery pasted right at the door is claustrophobic to me. Does one truly need to pay a designer for such a bare 'landscape'?
Good news. You dont have to!
suits an old granny
And that’s fine 😊✌️
I'm not but I think it should suit me
The camera work needs some serious improving.
There is always atleast one negatron in the comments.
