To put it simply, Technoblade never dies...
Technoblade is one of the most influential creators on the platform, and since his death, people have used this opportunity for monetary gain. In this video, I go through all the ways Technoblade's death has been exploited for clout and views, as well as explain where this issue stems from. It's honestly disgusting this has happened, but it also acts as a case study to defend future creators from this same harassment.

I think the thing that turned me off from social media forever was an incident in highschool that caused this sort of behavior years before "virtue signaling" was part of the common vernacular. A little, goofy, nerdy, akward guy I knew got hit by a car crossing the street from our highschool and dragged to death for like 200 yards by some grandma who had refused to stop driving despite her severe macular degeneration (or whatever blindness she was slowly going through). This was a kid that, to my knowledge, nobody outside a very small circle of people really knew (and I only met him and hung out with him a handful of times in groups, myself.) But the whole week or so that he was in his coma before he died was some of the most disgusting examples of cynicism I think I've ever seen. The most vain, shallow, attractive, popular kids began strutting around posting shit like they actually knew him, raising heaps of likes and attention online and generally acting like they were the greatest humanitarians to ever grace our presence due to their latching onto his tragedy and infusing their own narcissism into everything. They started groups and chainmail type posts and all kinds of shit to gain as much attention for themselves as possible, despite the fact that not a single one of them even had a photo of themselves with him. I mean, despite not being that close to him and never claiming to have been, I can at least say that photographs of myself with him and several other people in social settings actually exist.
And I was very good friends with several people who did know him very well who were inconsolable after his death. And yet, because these vainglorious, fart sniffing narcissists had more clout on Myspace and Facebook (back when it could still go either way) and got the lions share of attention and reposting, the school fucking bought into their bullshit. So when a memorial was held, they were the ones who got up and spoke publicly about him, and his actual friends were barred from the podium. It's so wonderful how the school rewarded a group of some of the most cruel, bullying, soulless, opportunistic... FUCKS I have ever personally known because they looked and acted like attractive, teachers pet, inoffensive, cheerleader and baseball player types who absolutely would have bullied him mercilessly if he hadn't kept to himself so much. So we all got to hear these fuck head, narcissistic, self-important, psychopaths get up and be the center of attention while crying crocodile tears until they got hugged by administrators who were probably just trying to get a photo op and public sympathy to help distract the public's attention away from their school's abysmal standardized testing, pregnancy, assault, and drop out rates. In between their plastic sobs, they read off the most cookie cutter, impersonal, probably-plagiarized from online public speaking template speeches I've ever heard, and the same tripe was what got printed in the yearbook page for him, rather than anything genuine or heartfelt from his real friends. It was telling when almost all the personal photos of him were only of him and the only ones with him and these same attention creatures were cut from school functions where he didn't get to choose who was sitting next to him.
Oh, yeah, his actual friends tried to get involved and take part. But they were not allowed to participate. Turns out that school administrators are made of the same grade D rejected horseshit as the fake friends are, and this either makes them completely blind or apathetic to this kind of emotionally manipulative theater when it comes from people who look like they walked out of a GAP catalog. These gawky, misfits who actually knew him and spent time with him we're obviously the ones who were just jealous of the attention that other people were getting and were trying to get fake sympathy from other people. And they actually got told this, in so many words. And when they started pushing back on these platforms saying that the things they were saying were meaningless or wrong, and that these people farming likes didn't actually know him, they got attacked by these fucking martyrs wearing rubber stage wounds on their sleeves and wound up turning everyone against them.
This was about the moment I went from thinking that social media was this interesting and exciting new type of website with a lot of possibilities to erecting a 10ft thick concrete wall between it and my limbic system. I peek over the wall sometimes (normally when I need used shit from FB marketplace or I'm curious if someone I used to know is actually dead or if the obituary I found is just someone who happens to have the same name) but I never, ever climb down the other side and get closer. That grass isn't greener. It's not even grass, it's just mold growing on the rotting corpses of everyone's dignity and self awareness.

A similar thing happened in my school where a student with a disability and autism had some kind of disease. While I never knew him personally nor shared classes with him, I had nothing against him. However, there was a small group of people who would constantly make fun of him even before he had the illness; but as soon as he went to hospital and died, they acted as if they always cared for him. That pissed me and my group of friends off a lot, always happens in schools where people act like they care when someone is ill.
It's gotten so bad that even people in colleges are acting this way too, and it's disgusting!
But still, even if my comment is around a year late (just got recommended this) I felt as if it was worth noting down that people IRL act this way too, it's disgusting behavior.

Even though they weren't.

I mean, its not that bad if you arent someone on the internet that often. To her, its just a random person on the internet who her son talks about (probably an obnoxious amount of) for his shitty youtube channel.

    • @twit3537
      @twit3537 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@thewhitetophat8965 Sorry this is long but she is far from being innocent in this one way or another.
I mean, she obviously knew her son was making videos about someone else's cancer and most likely also the subsequent death while making money off of those videos, otherwise she wouldn't have responded so positively to him saying techno got cancelled for having cancer and implying that she knew he got revenue from it.
Even if you aren't on the internet, unless you live under a rock or maybe live in a cult cut off from society as a whole, you know how bad/terrible Cancer is and how hard it is for people an their loved ones to go thru it. How deadly it is and how devastating it is to have. Overall, you should know that it is a horrible thing to take advantage of cancer patients and to be cruel to them. Its literally like a social taboo to do and they BOTH were doing it.
Honestly, her celebrating someone with cancer struggling because her son can milk it for views, and thus money, on his YT shows where he gets his lack of empathy from.
Also she must know how much money he was getting because, iirc, since he is a minor he needs his mom or another guardian to help with having a bank account (tho idk about paypal and stuff like that and whether it needs a 'regular' bank account to be connected to it but no matter what there has to be a place for the money to be set up to be deposited) and I get the vibe she knows about the money and has some sort of control over it as she stated what it was going to be used for when most 15yos probably would rather spend it on something else. There is even the possibility that the money goes to her account and not his or something like that.
Not to mention, if you know your kid is making videos and posting them which gain a lot of money you would think that as a parent she would want to see what those videos were about regardless of if she genuinely didn't know who techno was. Like even just do it to make sure he isn't saying anything unsafe (like accidental doxxing/saying too much). Like he stated his age which would be a big 'no no' for internet safety imo as it can mark him as a target for predators and ngl I feel even the uploader confirming his age wasn't the best either but mentioning it briefly in a video is better than, from what I understand, the kid making it the primary thing in his descriptions on every video. The uploader also seems to have a better understanding of social norms, how crappy the internet can be, and such so hopefully would be more likely to not be deceived by a predator/targetted as easily.
If she truly was oblivious to what content he was making then it was negligence on her part as a parent imo and the reason this is so serious is because there are a LOT of parents who neglect not only teaching internet safety but monitoring, within reason as older kids do need more privacy/freedom as they grow older, their child's activities online which can/does include what they post. I would be especially concerned to what was being posted if he was my son as its not rocket science that to get paid that much you need people engaging with your content which means he would be exposed to a larger audience, a larger pool of potential predators, and even tho he is 15 he is still a minor and is at risk to be taken advantage of or harmed (or doing dumb crap that gets him harassed).
Like, say I had a child bringing in large sums of money and stated it was youtube I would not only want to check to see if they actually were posting on youtube but also what they were posting, how they were getting the money and who was giving it to them as they could be posting content that is really not okay/dangerous such as them doing live streams that have 'suggestive' content that was paid for/encouraged by donors on the stream/commentors/viewers after the fact too. Teens are impressionable, attention can be addictive and so can be money so if they are getting attention from people who are also willing to also pay them/give them attention when their parents aren't being involved enough to even look into where the money is coming from, then it can explain a lot as to why they can fall victim to predators.
Then there is other not okay stuff in general you would want to check out such as cyber bullying others thru videos, doxxing others, posting too much info that could not only dox themselves but the family, saying stuff that could get them harmed/harassed, etc.
Like he started a discord call with someone who 'lured him into' one with obviously not good intentions for him (even tho exposing him was important it just showed how easily this kid can walk into a lions den and be non-the-wiser). This kid has barely any internet smarts/social rationale and lack of compassion for others if he can get gain for it and his mother was obviously a factor because of her reaction and his lack of internet awareness/self regulation.
Also I would actually prefer if she knew what his videos were about because it would provide at least a silver lining in this crap show as many parents who watch their kids youtube would show support/be involved in their kids interest that way rather than being dismissive/uninterested like some type of parents are. It would show she had some compassion/interest at least even if not for Techno it was towards her own son regardless of monetary gain from the kids interest.
So even tho what he did was scummy, it was something he was passionate about and she seemed to just care about milking her son for money if she was truly (willfully bc she could have watched his videos to find out) ignorant of what her sons videos were about by not watching/engaging with him or his videos.
Thats all why I do not think she is innocent in all of this and is probably one of the reasons this happened in the first place (the other reason being the kid has to have responsibility for his own actions and the fact there could be any other guardian figure in his life not mentioned who also would have let him down imo for his reactions and deception in all of this)

Strange, I never associated "tribute videos" with spammed monetization. I imagined a tribute video as an individual's honest non-monetized opinions on the subject, or some cool artwork (not an NFT) or some cinematic. Very informative video 15/10

If you enjoy watching short clips, there is a channel named reinyx who has animated shorts, and they are a great example of what you wrote and how to tribute right. They upload each day, and had two uploads on June 30th, a normal video and then a video acknowledging his passing, likely the normal video was posted before Technoblade's video.
So in that acknowledge video and every video since, minus one, it has links to the fundraiser. The only video that doesn't is one that doesn't have Technoblade in it. There are no ads, so it isn't being monetized. And they are well animated, really bringing the block game to life.

Seeing and hearing about this behavior is absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking at the same time, as someone who's enjoyed Technoblades content for about two years now. He was my favorite youtuber and got me through many tough times. He was just a genuinely good person with a great personality and a big heart; though I never knew him, I will always stand on his side because I know he would never do anything to harm other people intentionally - I just wish that others were the same way.
Techno didn't deserve anything that's happened to him in the past year and that's heartbreaking enough. People are only making the situation harder to cope with by monetizing his passing.

I thought about posting something on TH-cam but that would not help because of how fucked up the internet is people would start trolling and I would get views off of him which is a horrific thing to do after someone’s death especially someone who I grew up watching and admiring because of his outstanding personality and amazing humor. Don't forget him. Remember him and his legacy. Trying to forget is disrespecting him. At least in my opinion. Instead of crying, remember. Remember how great he was and respect his legacy. If you mourn over him nothing will happen. At least respect him for what he did.

“I did what everyone else did, I cried for over 10 minutes.” Now yes, it’s sad, but I doubt barely anybody cried for that long. So it wasn’t “everyone else”. I cried, but for like 2 minutes. And there are millions of people who didn’t watch his videos and didn’t cry. It is sad, but this isn’t even a global event.

It makes me feel sick that people do this, I haven't really watched Techno before and just recently got into watching the dsmp after a skeppy vid popped up in my recommended. When I saw another youtuber I watch posted a video about his death I remember seeing people in the comments saying a bunch of horrible disgusting things. I'm glad that videos like yours are there to show people how truly terrible and sick some people are.

It's disgusting to profit from someone else's grief.
All right, if it is done by small channels that do not have the ability to enable monetization.
But damn, when the big channels do it and they don't send their earnings to cancer charities, it's terrible!
If only those who do not turn off monetization sent the money they earned to help people who got cancer. . .

Just got this recommendation from the TH-cam algorithm, and I really really think that even after 2 years, this is an AMAZING commentary.
When I initially found out about his death, 2 years ago, I was on a vacation trip, luckily it was the last day of the trip, because the news crushed me. Having been a fan of both Minecraft and Technoblade for so long, it was like being hit by a semi-truck. Technoblade's death has led to a massive hole being left in the Minecraft and TH-cam community. And for people to try and abuse the fame of Technoblade to make content made me infuriated. It was completely unwarranted, practically making fun of him.. The same thing happened with Etika, though that's a different, and slightly more infuriating story, for another day.

I was an artist who loved the dsmp. I had made some art to commemorate Techno, since he was one of my favorite TH-camrs. It got some attention and while I was glad it was comforting some people, unfortunately it got some unwanted attention. The same cryptocurrency NFT guy, Technobladies, asked to turn my art into an NFT. I rejected, obviously, but he would not take no for an answer until I threatened him. He said something like “Well it’s not minted, so that means I can use it.” The whole ordeal made me feel sick, and it was extremely stressful during a time I was trying to grieve the death of one of my favorite people. They disappeared after me and a couple artists got on their case about it, but it was a horrible experience to deal with at all. I can’t believe opportunistic scum like that exists in this world.
