if you don't need FIA protection, you can also consider fencing shoes. The heel and sides are built and reinforced to be in contact with the mesh ground, and they are really confortable.

@@mgcharoudin You can use wrestling or boxing shoes for driving but not for racing because of FIA certification. They are made of fabric, suede or leather. Also lightweight but not sure about fire protection. Costs about 50-100 euros.

I still have a pair of Puma Drift Cats (for me the best experience while driving so far 😂) and just can’t through them away because I never considered a nice substitute, this has changed now. Thank you

Hi Misha great video as always. I must say that now you have an 86 I’m disappointed that you didn’t go for the New Balance 574’s . The upside of that of course is that you can pay off your expensive new driving shoes by delivering tofu late at night around the Nurburgring. Just a thought
Massive thumbs up for OMP. I have been wearing their kart boots for day to day, track days and sim racing for the last 6 years. OMP also cater for a slightly wider foot in my experience than other brands. The way I see it is, if you wear the same driving shoes all the time, there are never any variables. It always feels the same when you drive and that frees up mental capacity to worry about everything else!
Vans Old Skool and Classic low top Chucks suit me just fine.. Relatively thin soles and multiple colors for all occasions :)
Classic Vans are the best in heel & toe! nothing much beats them on driving (maybe im exaggerating LOL)

For me the best casual shoes for driving are high heel Onitsuka Tigers, you should check them out, they are comfortable for daily use (but the sole is still low and pretty rigid), they are extremely narrow and the heel is flat, the only con are the shoe laces which are pretty long but it's something you can just replace or tuck inside the shoe

The fact that OMP is sponsoring several racing leagues including teams dictates more on the pricing of they equipment, than what it's "worth", if you break it up in production and material cost. They price it high, because they can. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a few other brands with on par or even better at less than half the price of those. They are probably very good, but don't ever judge a product on it's pricetag alone.
QSP is very similar to OMP because both their products (at least the dished QSP steering wheels) are made in the same factory. So for 50% less money you almost get the same exact product.
Buying the OMP version wouldn't make overall sense

I have Hugo boss shoes that are very nice for driving, casual use and evening use as they’re quite smart! Nice thin flat sole and as you say slim fit with nothing sticking out the sides! I will be grabbing some racing shoes next visit though and some new gloves
It always pays dividents to spend much money on shoes. Either racing or dress shoes. It's like buying the best tyres you can afford. The problem is you always want more. Absolutely love the yellow OMPs.
Tires are a safety concern but even they have diminishing returns.
I love my Piloti shoes for driving manual. They look nice enough to wear to work too!
For my weekend driving for the last couple of years I have bee using Asic’s Onitsuka tigers . Not great for walking really but probably the closest sneaker to an actual race shoe. Thin soled ( for a regular sneaker) narrow and provide a great feel through the pedals . Hey if they are good enough for Keiichi Tsuchiya , then that’s all the reasons I need.
ive had a pair of sparco mid tops for years. i wear them every day and they hold up great.
OMP or Sparco are the shoes I use, personal opinion, for my feet. Not saying other brands are bad!

I wear addidas sambas for a mix of daily activities and driving, shallow flat sole not bad for driving. Just change shoes when dog walking etc. Got sparcos too

I was looking for a pair off shoes for simracing a while ago, but let me tell you, when your shoe size is a little above the average it is nearly impossible to find something. Up to size 46, no problem. But 99% dont even offer annything above that. That#s the price you have to pay when you are a little bit in the taller side

I think its a mistake to buy expensive shoes if you can get custom ones made for your feet for 100€ more.
I remember watching videos about custom working boots and people are always blown away at first and then decide to be a lifetime customer. You can also wear them for life if the shop offers repairs, which is next level. Are there any disadvantages of custom racing shoes (apart from price)?
I took the advice of someone at the track and got a pair of karting boots. They're not fire retardant (and therefore not suitable for racing) but they _are_ leather, which is the minimum requirement for the events i compete in. Probably about half the price of the cheapest racing boots
I always tell people to get shoes with thin flat soles and a flat heel, just for the public road. It's just way more comfortable and safer than those new fashion shoes with 20 cm heels
I’ve loved to watch your videos on equipment it’s really interesting to see the differences between the entry level type of equipment and the higher end stuff.
That lacing system is called BOA and is common on a lot of sports shoes now.

I think you could get those Adidas repaired. Glue on a new sole and patch over the hole with a new piece of leather. Migh be worth it for a spare pair.

Many many years ago i had a pair of adidas goodyear adi racers, very thin shoes, small profile but also comfortable for daily use. Had them for over 7 years, sad that adidas dont make them any more

ignorant question: FIA certification/fire safety aside, for your average enthusiastic driving, why not just drive barefoot or just socks? Surely that gives you the ultimate feel and control?

I'm using the same Adidas Fyshe Daytonas just with silver stripes. Use it for karting here and there, autotests, etc. But I've also tried driving longer distances with them. I've had heel pain 🤔 wonder if I should put some padding on the right heel.
And then there are people who have a big foot and have trouble finding a racing shoe that fits at all. Like for example, I'm EU49/US14-15, it's challenging to find normal shoes that I like and are comfortable, so this specific use is pretty hard. I only know of one manufacturer that makes shoes in such a non-standard size and that is racequip

Expensive driving shoe: I compete in a race series
Barefoot: I live at the track so I can fine tune my stock micra so I have no money
I used to wear toms and they worked fine for me. Of course, i couldnt drive for shit either at that time...

😂😂 I’m running the 2022 version of your alpinestars as my main shoe.
Are there any models that are a bit extra wide in the front? My feet are average sized, but my toes are placed quite parallel to each other. This makes slim shoes impossible for me to wear without getting a couple of sizes too large, with too much empty space in front of the toes. No need for FIA certification, as they would be used mainly for simracing.
Make them if you can use a sewing machine, it's actually really easy

My Sparco Top was only €250.
Just for the record carmrades... ayrton senna drove the hell out of an NSX with white socks and loafers. The moral of the story is git gud then upgrade the rest.
I will give you guys a nice little cheap tip (but I use this for simracing): Get some old comfortable sneakers and rip the soles off 😂 (you will end up with the inner soles which are thin and provide great tactile feedback)
