I put one of these on my Comet a while back. It's a legitimately good product. It looks beautiful and plays like there's a sheet of glass on the playfield.
Merci pour cette vidéo Todd ! Comme d'habitude c'est super bien fait. L'opération de pose est bien détaillée et très bien expliquée. Ca donne envie de se lancer pour ceux qui hésiteraient encore avec cette technique. Bravo !
I love these hard tops. I've got one installed on my space shuttle that has a few thousand plays on it now and looks and good as the day I installed it. An amazing product to save these old games indeed.
Turned out great! A buddy of mine has the BK ready to install. We plan to do that this Fall. I'll make a video on it. I hope they keep making more of these for many more machines. Much easier than air brushing a clear coating...
UPVOTE! Todd any chance in the future you can do a Todd’s Tips on soldering new coils into your machine? I tried doing one and I’m such a hack. I’d love to see one of your guys do it.
Wow that playfield is no joke, I worked in printing at one time and I know how hard it is to get something like that right, colors, sizing, etc. Nice piece.
I love this this stuff (watching intensely) That's a great product. Have a Strato Flite that could use that. Thanks for the tip brother. Colors look perfect.
Todd, funny you just did this. Yesterday, I was looking for an upper playfield for my Black Knight and I came across this. I am going to purchase one. I also have a 1978 Playboy for 36 years and in great shape but does this decrease the value of a pin?
Well, a crappy playfield on a pinball makes the game worth very little...a nice playfield like this for 98% of the world would be thrilled...the 2% anal collectors would be horrified! But having the original wiring underneath the playfield is also a good thing too.
A couple of things presented here seem to contradict what others have said / done. *Here, people hold the other half in place. Most people anchor the hardtop towards the center. This seems less secure. *Steve says that the top alignment can be adjusted as being placed down. This hardtop is stiff. Once it is attached at one end, there is almost zero adjustment in alignment that can be made. Also, this video says almost nothing about prepping the playfield and the inserts. A first time installer needs info on the grit of the sandpaper plus the application of the 'clear' over the inserts. And that the hardtop manufacturer says to let the clear sit a minimum of 3 days prior to application of the top.
Nice! Once it's installed in the game and the glass is back on, is it possible to tell it's an overlay or does it basically look like a brand new playfield once the game is all reassembled?
If you go the site they do tell you what wax to use on it. I am going ahead and purchasing one for my Black Knight. The upper playfield is in bad shape.
Non Hot Dog version of space shuttle? Do you have any links or pictures you can link here to see them? Never heard of that version of space shuttle, is it early production?
Damn fine job. Awesome. Steven needs to wear eye protection! Otherwise tell him thank you please. Oh...got my book. Love it. Waiting for book #2. Better to be a working man than working woman?
it's not that bad Todd Steve could touch that up quite easily I think it would be better to take the backing off first roll it round itself into a tube and place the centre and line the centre and then roll it out from the centre to the top and bottom. you need to tell the manufacturer they need a stiffer backing paper to stop it flaking and peeling. use a rubber squeegee when placing it on to get the air out I tile grouter would be ideal thick rubber. I would just go over with some wet and dry 800 in the ball groove just where the plastic meets the wood could be a bit high there and the ball could rise up! sand it down smooth on that point. you should squeegee it with a grouting paddle it's not stuck down that firmly! could it peel off in the future!? I would even apply a hair dryer while doing it. yes Playboy here's a idea if they're watching, make the girls holographic when you turn your head it will make them strip👍 add a new dimension to the game
I just Purchased one for my Black Knight before TNT put this out and there was a home user that the site points to and shows you how to install it as well, Doing it from the center is not recommended by Hardtop.
Finally Steve gets a dedicated episode!!
my Steven!!
Fantastic work Steven, and everyone else that helped, that new top looks amazing! :D

Thumbs up just for the way Todd points his finger LOL!
Those hardtops are cool. What a useful restoration tool. It's a good thing Steven has such a steady hand and the patients to lay one of those down.
Hope it helps alot of people!

Steven... Who works for who? Question.. would you wax this prior to installing all components? Awesome Job Steven!
Wow that playfield is no joke, I worked in printing at one time and I know how hard it is to get something like that right, colors, sizing, etc. Nice piece.

I love Comet! Such a fun, basic game, great lights and sounds! I regret selling mine...

Looks really good! I wish something like this for Data East Batman would become available!

High Speed would be a good game to make a hard top for. :)
Yes...maybe he will!

Beautiful Looking Machine
One of my favorite Machines
My wishlist is a Machine from TNT
Thank you for the compliment!
That's was really cool 😎 Two 👍👍 way way up!
Thank you!
Do you need to apply a sealer to the wood before applying the overlay, or will it stick to the wood ok?
verry nice now waiting for more than the 12 versions they have now ;)
Nice this Hardtop overlay great 👍🏼
Yes it is!
That's real talent great job.
Thank you Mike!
Pinball looks great!
Its stunning!

Those guys just won all my pf protector biz! That Hollyood Heat was jealous too =)
Should have waited til the end =(
Great job on the play field 👍
and first to comment!
Great install vid
Thank you!
Nice work!
Thanks!
Today was my Birthday and it went good so i'm happy. :)
Thats a good thing!
I'd buy one of these if they had one for any games I own. I would have been first in line for a bally playboy.
Maybe they will get a license...I would think that the Hefner estate would be thrilled!
Now the big question..do you wax these just like a normal playfield for longevity?
Don;t know!
I know this was a few years ago but would you guys do the white jewel posts again or would you go back to red?
we actually would do clear now...to allow the led colors to shine through them
amazing video and beautiful playfield layout! btw i just got the new book and already ordered vol 2!
Thank you very much!
Great job Steve. Very tedious work and you have to get it right the first time. Looks superior to the other overlays that are out there.
He did a wonderful job!
Amazing work!
Thanks!
I don’t know how they did it without you Todd! You must be an excellent boss!
they LOVE me!
I think is really nice, i just don't like the added glare the plastic gives it
Clearcoat would do the same thing...and remember you will play it while watching through a glass too.
Awesome video!!! I see from Barcelona
Thank you Chris!
nice job!
Thank you!!
Looks Great Todd! ;)
Thanks!
Nice! Once it's installed in the game and the glass is back on, is it possible to tell it's an overlay or does it basically look like a brand new playfield once the game is all reassembled?
No...it looks like a brand new playfield! Actually better than new as it looks like its clearcoated
Do you still have to wax that play field
Great Question!
I was about to ask the same thing.
If you go the site they do tell you what wax to use on it. I am going ahead and purchasing one for my Black Knight. The upper playfield is in bad shape.
Yes. I use the playfield protectors on my games same as this just no decal. I use turtle wax ice paste with good results!
Non Hot Dog version of space shuttle?
Do you have any links or pictures you can link here to see them? Never heard of that version of space shuttle, is it early production?
I had one of them over the years...you can see the difference around the flash lamps in center of playfield...
Damn fine job. Awesome. Steven needs to wear eye protection! Otherwise tell him thank you please.
Oh...got my book. Love it. Waiting for book #2.
Better to be a working man than working woman?
Glad you like Volume 1...Volume 2 is in December!
Data east Batman also
Once you've actually tried swapping a complete playfield wiring, you never want to do it again
That is correct...we will NOT do it anymore!
7:05 - LOL
Glad you laughed!
I always get at least a few from your videos.
:-)
it's not that bad Todd Steve could touch that up quite easily

Hmmmm....not sure thats good advice on that stiff Hardtop!
TNT Amusements Inc what part!!!!!
I just Purchased one for my Black Knight before TNT put this out and there was a home user that the site points to and shows you how to install it as well, Doing it from the center is not recommended by Hardtop.
Go Steve \0/
My Steven!!
FIRST!!!
Sadly, a bunch before you...not this time...but one day!!
First to comment !
Second...sorry!
TNT Amusements Inc it’s all cool! Pinball is back !!!
Todd why does it seem like your items are overpriced. Lay off the hoogies, and stay cutting some real deals on those pinball Machines.
You are an a-hole in multiple ways.
He must HATE me! I couldn't find any videos or bargain basement games on his channel!
Leave Todd alone!
Why did that mrs pacman have an asteroids bezel?
