      I guess the real question is "How many people use Spotify at home?" I understand your point of view but you also have to look at a company's point of view as well. Another question would be is Spotify's format Atmos compatible?

      @@alexojeda9048 Umm, I use Spotify mainly at home, and that's why I don't get why any companies would put out "HD audio" if that wasn't the case. It's not like you get Atmos in your car/earphones etc! Only available in a home theater, which is why Amazon better get their heads outta their a**es, because not everyone uses a Fire stick for their main theater setup! same w/ Spotify, they need to step it up.

      Andrew, I think you did what I need to do! So….you plugged fire stick directly into the back of your ht receiver instead of your tv? My problem is, I have an older Sony Bravia (2017 model), I can’t get Atmos to work through tv apps, only my blu ray player while playing a disc. Atmos won’t work on built in apps on blu ray player. Personally I find Dolby Atmos music (object-based audio) sounds great for the first few tracks but once the novelty wears off, that's when I start to feel a bit of a headache coming on! Whereas when I'm listening 2-Channel audio, I can enjoy it to my hearts content and thats without any ear fatigue whatsoever. 🥳 of course having high-end speakers help.

      Hi Alexander. Potentially. If you plan to use the Apple Music service an Apple TV is by far your best source. While you can make it work on an Android system, it is not a great experience. The new second-gen Apple TV 4K is truly the gateway into multichannel Atmos over the HDMI connection. The new Apple TV 4K has been upgraded to the eARC HDMI port which is an important feature to keep in mind when shopping for a high-performance Dolby Atmos soundbar, a multichannel Atmos-enabled AV Receiver or a TV this year. The eARC HDMI connection (or Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is the evolution of HDMI ARC and this is what you need to transmit full Dolby Atmos from the Atmos source or TV back down the HDMI cable - without compression. If your Dolby Atmos source is the older first-gen Apple TV 4K, you should still be able to experience Spacial Audio with Apple Music, depending on your Atmos-enabled soundbar or your surround channel Atmos-enabled A/V receiver - but you may not be getting the full Atmos experience. Thanks for the great video! My AppleTV won’t switch my denon AVR to Atmos when playing spatial music, but it switches automatically for Atmos movies... are we sure Apple TV plays spatial music? Through Apple Music app on an A1842
    Ok so Apple Music on Apple TV’s won’t play “spatial music” but it will play “Atmos Music” they sell these terms differently. Spatial has to do accelerometers built into to certain Apple devices. “Dolby Atmos Music” IS available on Apple TV

    • @AudioAdvice

      Apple says, AirPods and Beats headphones with an H1 or W1 chip will play tracks encoded with Spacial Audio. You can connect your Apple TV 4K to a compatible TV or multichannel AV receiver using Apple TV (A1842 model or higher). If your Dolby Atmos source is the older first-gen Apple TV 4K (A1842), you should still be able to experience Spacial Audio with Apple Music, depending on your Atmos-enabled soundbar or your surround channel Atmos-enabled A/V receiver - but you may not be getting the full Atmos experience. This will depend on the HDMI cables and their bandwidth and also the HDMI ARC connection your TV has. The eARC HDMI connection (or Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is the evolution of HDMI ARC and this is what you need to transmit full Dolby Atmos from the Atmos source or TV back down the HDMI cable - without compression. Streaming so-called Atmos through Apple from a Windows PC with sound setting set for Atmos sounds lousy in my opinion. First off, the signal is so degraded you need to almost double the receiver volume to have the same volume level from your speakers. And it's also NOT the same type Atmos you get from a Blue Ray disc. there are more than one grade of Atmos. You will also find that if you set your sound output on your Windows 10 or 11 PC to Atmos or DTS-X that EVERYTHING it outputs will be ID'ed by your AV receiver as Atmos or DTS-X regardless of what it's true format is. Personally I've found these Hi-Res streaming services sound best output in stereo from your PC , and then set your AV receiver to either Pure Direct stereo, or if you want multi-channel then use Dolby Surround with center channel spread enabled in your receiver settings. I've done countless hours of comparison of the music and haven't found one streaming song output from PC HDMI that sounds better to me in Atmos than Pure Direct or Dolby Surround.

      @@AudioAdvice No I don't use those devices. I only use Fire Cube & Roku Ultra and they will stream Atmos movies OK. Currently I only use Amazon HD Unlimited for music streaming as I dropped Apple music, and Amazon HD is not being delivered in Atmos through them regardless of what settings are used. And Amazon will not stream Atmos through other devices I believe. But the other point I was making is if you stream from your PC and put sound settings to Atmos it will claim everything is now Atmos regardless of source, and it will have a very weakened signal requiring a lot more power from your receiver to achive the same volume level as when settings were for 2 channel, but the sound is not better at all. It will do the same also if you put your PC sound settings to DTS-X as well. I did have Apple Music and it claimed it was outputting Atmos when I was streaming to my Iphone but when I bluetoothed that signal to my receiver it was not Atmos. But I'm not going to buy another device at this time for something that is not widely supported or really any better. And personally I'm not sure having sounds popping up around you with Atmos is better than a nice wide & deep front sound stage like a real musical performance is. I have found though when it's a live concert video and you hear the audiance around you in surround sound that is very realalistic. I suppose everyone has their own listining preferences. But for me when you hear something coming from overhead, sides, or rear channels while seeing the performer in front of you that is kind of weird. For me you can't beat a good 24/96 or 24/192 Hi Res recording played back in Pure Direct for the most life like and best sounding musical soundstage.

There are some new pieces of music with no video content intentionally mixed for Atmos that sound pretty amazing, but yes if there is video involved and the performers are in front of you, it is funky to hear sounds all around. And yes, totally agree on the concerts. We remember when we got one of the first Atmos concert discs, Roger Waters The Wall. That is mixed perfectly, just like you would experience it live and the Atmos and surround effects are incredible.

    Am I missing something, how can you play multichannel music with different speakers everywhere? DSP can do that already...

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Echo. Great question! We agree. DSP is impressive. However, to answer your question, multichannel receivers capable of truly decoding all the channels of content encoded with Dolby Atmos will yield amazing results compared to the digital "trickery" DSP is able to reconstruct, virtually. In essence, DSP is extremely useful when your system is not multichannel capable, or when the system is capped out at a certain amount of Atmos/surround sound channels, so the system virtually reconstructs more channels of Dolby Atmos, should you need it. An example would be for Atmos content greater than 5.1.4, a system might decode up to 7.1.4 virtual surround sound installation in your room. When done correctly, it can sound impressive, but will not be the same experience as an actual 7.1.4 installation with all the speakers for each channel. It's a lot to unpack but our home theater experts are available in chat if you have some more questions. www.audioadvice.com/ Thanks for watching!
