@@rachellepollock9877Rachael , you’ve got an eye and tastebuds of someone who’s been down the Bushs ‘ aisle . I’ve taken a trip or two myself and find their products superior in taste and their canning process matters, just look at a Bushs ‘ can and then the others. Hands down 👍💥

Dry intact grains like wheat, rye, barley and white rice will also keep for 30+ years if kept cool, dry and oxygen free.

@@dougdrefus4274 Make them yourself. Buy dried beans in bulk then remove and throw away the plastic packaging, those cheap plastic wrappers start to break down after a couple years. Make sure the new container you put your beans in is airtight and store them in a dark, cool, dry place.
Dried beans kept like that will last 15 years +.

Unfortunately some frivolous comments on a very serious subject.
Something that was not completely clear is the difference between canned products in water that you get at the grocery store and are what people are generally familiar with.
The other product that is dry canned or stored in mylar bags such as wheat, beans and legumes and whatever else with oxygen absorbers. Intended for long-term storage.

I'm hoping someone can answer this question for me as I cant find information about it anywhere.
Why does canned food expire/become unsafe to eat if the can is still closed?
If the cans are air tight, and there is no bacteria, mold, ect, alive in the can because it was boiled during production, then shouldn't the worst thing that could happen be that the food gets mushy/soggy?
I see no reason why you can't cook and eat mushy soggy food other than just not liking the texture.
I don't see any reason why the food would become toxic to eat. Shouldn't it last forever?
The only thing that should cause it to spoil/lose nutrition at that point is literally just the radioactive decay of the atoms themselves which would take hundreds of thousands to millions of years.
If you know the answer I'd love to know.

    Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot,
The more you toot, the better you feel,
So eat some beans with every meal.
Beans, beans, they're good for the heart
The more you eat, the more you fart
The more you fart, the better you feel,
So eat some beans with every meal.

This is information for what food will last when there are no grocery stores and the country is in dire shape. If you like fresh vegetables I suggest you learn to grow them and quick.
