I was fortunate to catch these guys playing in local Buffalo clubs before anyone but people in Buffalo, NY knew who they were. I'm not sure if I ever actually paid to see them, lol! They are great guys and worked hard for their success. Loved this video and others on here that take me back...
Nelson Kita I think some of that performance is on TH-cam! I think I watched it on here some years ago. Is that when Johnny says to the crowd, “this is the best Fourth of July EVER! EVER!”??
Goo Goos rock!! Look at Johnny's ripped arms so cool!! I love their old and new jams Do love their harder rock sound I'm a rocker from long ago so like alot of their older music but love Boxes CD lots!! Keep rockin!! Love you guys!!
I never will understand the whole sold out bit. As I know if it were not for Name being a hit, that would have been the end. I've read this in interviews. They were into their 30's and were just surviving, and had 10 years behind them. Then after Name, John gets writers block...imagine finally writing a hit and then you feel your dried up. Then you get IRIS and now your move up to the star level. They found the formula and ran with it, and they earned it.
A lot of bands just don't understand the significance of some of their earlier work. Not only does their new music sound nothing like it, but they don't even bother to play the stuff live.
im from buffalo there home town and i went to they same school as johny mckinley high im a younger then him but we hung out at them same place witch is pretty cool if u think about it
@BUSthrowie You're totally correct about that, but I am mainly referring to how John has been treating the band's older material. I was once at a concert and someone up front was begging them to play some older songs, and his response was "You can only go so far back until they call you has been". He then broke into "Better Days".
Pre-Tattooed Goo and Pre-Bearded CoCo. I f*cking love this band and that man!!!!!! Just finished a loooong work week and really needed the smile this put on my face. Thank you.
I was at a ton of those early 90's shows and I love those songs. But a lot of those songs were amateurish compared to "Broadway, Black Balloon, Naked, etc."
they never sold out, they do what they want to do, end of question, theyre not forced , and on top of that, if they still wrote songs like this , they would topple over, theyre gettin older now, the truth is , the goo goo dolls still play a lot of their older songs, its hard to fit them in though because they have so many hits
If you look a little deeper you'll find it was played in 2011 as a test, as John admits. They scrapped it after a few shows because the song was not well received and basically nobody knew it.
The "once" awesome band? Goo Goo Dolls are still good and still made alot of good quality music after this. And had no idea Conan was out back in 94 haha lol!
@stringoflies LOL, thats hilarious. He used to go on about how being a sell out is doing something that you wouldn't normally do if money wasn't involved. And over the years he grown and matured and thats why the sound of the band has changed. DUTG was a great album and so were all the ones before. I liked gutterflower, but after hearing that one, i knew the good ol' days of the Goo Goo Dolls were gone.
Love this song, and all of Superstar Carwash. Goo fan for life here, and even I'll admit the latest album is pretty watered down, even for the Goo's. Regardless, it's got some great songs, as this band always delivers.
@stringoflies True, they did try it for 10 years , but that was before they were well known, you do bring up a good point though , their marketers have Always sucked , but i actually heard them play this song at quite a few of their recent shows
friend, i have listened all their songs ... this days, they are making music more for a message than other thing, for a sentimental value ... i would like to listen more solos on their new songs, but tell me what u think about ''truth is a whisper'' ''one night'' '' extra pale'' they still got a few songs that really rocks like the old days .. i think they are doing great job changing ppl life and giving us some hope ...
George Tutuska is the former drummer. He was in the band from 1986-1995. George also claims to have written the song "Fallin' Down", and also claims that John stole royalty checks from him for the college radio airplay it received. The tension between all three band members is what ultimately lead to Georges' dismissal from the Goo Goo Dolls just weeks before the release of ABNG.
However it isn't out of the question to throw in three or four oldies at a show seeing the fact the Goo Goo Dolls are definitely moving down the totem pole. They should be pleasing there dedicated fan base.
I fail to understand the title of this? the once great?? People need to realize there is a thing called growth ok! John said it best himself.. he's not going to be in his 40's writing like a 20 year old.. He was great back then.. but he's aged, matured and I'm sure his views have changed... His music is still definitive, thought provoking and beautiful.. You are not a true GGD Fan if you can't grow with them...
Well, I can help you begin to understand. John, Robby and George were not 20 when they put out this song. You also need to realize a thing called ignorance, as that is exactly what you represent. Views have changed, you're right. Don't you just love the new CASH CASH song? I just listened to "Rebel Beat" and I realize the message is so much deeper than what that song "Long Way Down" had to say. What immature songwriters they were back then, remember "On the Lie", What a joke song about a drunk father. "Come to Me" is so much better! Above all, you actually think John wrote this song... and you have the audacity to say I am not a true fan? I uploaded this video from 21 years ago and where were you then, "true fan"? You're just another target demographic trolling my video.
***** I have dealt with it. Think I don't know there will never be another SuperStar Carwash? DUH! However, it seems that most sheeple on here are having a problem with me speaking the truth that this band has run its course by well over a decade now. "They evolved" is the most popular defense to the garbage that they have released since Dizzy, and I'm sick of it.
Saw them in a wee pub in London in 95, bloody hell that was a loud and brilliant night, all songs from ABNG, SSCW, Hold Me Up and Jed............. and no bloody ballads! GGD RIP
Yes i know! i have been a longtime fan of The Goo Goo Dolls. They are a great band and Johnny is a great singer-songwriter. So is Robbie. The Goo are a great band one of the best. Yeah they still mad quality music and still do Magnetic is a good album IMO. Yeah when i saw that description too i was like wtf.
I remember the Goos from these days too. Superstar Car Wash" and "Boy Named Goo" are both the best Goo Goo Dolls albums they've made. I like Dizzy and Gutterflower too but those albums are less metal and more pop.
the problem for some people is they went from a punk band to a modern rock band thats all. i guess the ppl that dont like them now are big into their punk stuff.
Super Star Carwash is my favorite album of GGD. If anyone has a video of Girl Right Next to Me from this time period please leave me a link. Ty. PS I love how they’re so raw bouncing up and down barefoot.
I was fortunate to catch these guys playing in local Buffalo clubs before anyone but people in Buffalo, NY knew who they were. I'm not sure if I ever actually paid to see them, lol! They are great guys and worked hard for their success. Loved this video and others on here that take me back...
I am glad you have those memories. As the old saying goes, Nothing endures but change.
He's always had great hair.
the STILL AWESOME band!!!!!
The gorgeous young Johnny. Could watch him all day! Love this song.
2004 , JULY 4 th. It rained ! They still came , 20-30 THOUSAND people , down town Buffalo ny I have seen 100 + concerts THIS ONES IN My TOP 3
Nelson Kita the one on the 4th of July ? if so my favorite concert too .
Nelson Kita I think some of that performance is on TH-cam! I think I watched it on here some years ago. Is that when Johnny says to the crowd, “this is the best Fourth of July EVER! EVER!”??
@@jrjubach the July 4th concert was in Buffalo New York. It is, by far, the best concert ever! And yes, I do believe he said that.
@@tyraonortham6545 Right on. Thanks for the reply!
This mix: a ton of guitar and little bit of everything else...
BMX all of that sound and they're a 3 piece here .
great tone from that parts caster or whatever it is
@@Durmomo0 I think Johnny got his tone from the Replacements. He was a big fan.
The song is titled "Fallin' Down" and it is the lead track on the album 'Superstar Car Wash', which was released on February 16, 1993.
It is a very Replacements-eque song and that is one of John's favorite bands.
Goo Goos rock!! Look at Johnny's ripped arms so cool!! I love their old and new jams Do love their harder rock sound
I'm a rocker from long ago so like alot of their older music but love Boxes CD lots!! Keep rockin!! Love you guys!!
Badass John Rzeznik
This video is so precious!

@TheReubenKincaid. Exactly!
This IS Rock n' Roll!
Matt Vargo The complete opposite to what the GGD's make now.
A lot of bands just don't understand the significance of some of their earlier work. Not only does their new music sound nothing like it, but they don't even bother to play the stuff live.
The birth of greatness! .... 'SOMETHING FOR THE REST OF US" This spring 2010 love goo!!!!!!!!! They changed my life.. =]
dude theyre still awesome
SUCK WITHOUT GEORGE TUTUSKA ON DRUMS
@@billybobbob3003 yeah poor George getting fired from the band back in 1994
wow!! that kicks asss!!!!!!!
Just three dudes who were inspired by some great bands like The Replacements. Loved this album and played the shit out of it.
Loved the Goo's then and now...they are awesome!! Their music is like food for the soul! This video is too cool...love it!
Where are their shoes? lol. Who would have thought that 14 years later...they'd be so successful. I just love them! Thanks for posting!!
I love this performance and era of the band so much. Awesome. Fan for life.
What´s the name of the song?
Falling Down
thanks

That was awesome. So raw, so awesome. One of their best albums.

robby has changed so much
I still Love this band cause I can relate to some of there songs
keep up the good work
Still AWESOME!
This band so was incredibly good in the 80's / early 90's.
I was at a ton of those early 90's shows and I love those songs. But a lot of those songs were amateurish compared to "Broadway, Black Balloon, Naked, etc."

Absolutely. The music was so raw / filled with emotion.
Johnny with that bob cut and Robby on 'roids, I love it! Such a great performance with all the appeal of The Replacements.
i know, I died a little inside when I saw the description. Theyre still amazing!
Pls put john rzesnik as number 2 best guitarist in the world he has creating unique riffs guitar tune
Extra crunchy wonderment!

Omg.. he looks so young..
I just watched Falling Down from 2011, so they still do their old ones for sure
It seems that John had not perfected his hair at this point.
Who wouldve thought they go on to be so famous and music in lots of movies
Agreed - it's (sadly) rarely played at all. I heard it live twice in 2012 but no one knew the song.
damn this is awesome! Love goo goo dolls acoustic sound but they should do this too.
They sound just like the Replacements!
John Rzeznik was a fan of the Replacements
NIce to see that George got a little shine before they booted him out of the band.
Sure thing ... I guess that's why Johnny completely ripped him off too. Pfffft
Fuckn good time! They used to play barefoot! lol And it was rock! XD
Fortunately they fired their wardrobe coordinator. :)
Also, Well said Mr Kincaid...
I wish john would solo like that now, i kno he's still got it in him!! Shred's not dead!
