I sought this particular performance out because someone in the comments of another video said this was one of the best live performances ever, and I was not disappointed.
Little bit of something for everybody..If you don't like their early, fast paced punk style, their later music is a depature but still amazing in it's own right.
How many of us were introduced to this song from the the 1996 movie twister? I was only 9 at the time but I always thought it was badass. This is the most raw and energetic version that exists live.
Probably the best live video and performance of this song..The audio, timing, vocals and instruments are all on point operating as one well oiled machine...Especially as far as the 1990's late night performances go. Johnny has such a great, natural rock voice..Auto tune not included.
the way he hits the high note in "i don't wanna live in here alone" is amazing this video makes me so reminiscent of the 90s and rock and music and my own life and surroundings at the time, i don't think ill ever forget that
I revisit this video every so often, it's a touchstone for me. Imo one of the best ever guitar tones, power sounds like this. I'm sad to say I don't know his name but the guy playing the Strat rules.
Used to watch these guys in the mid 80s at the Continental in downtown Buffalo NY. They were more of a punk band then running around like idiots on the stage. Glad to see that they have become successful. Rob Takac is a great guy too as is his whole family. Graduated 2 years behind him at West Seneca East HS.
One of the best rock songs of all time.....and excluding this song, i wouldn't even consider myself a fan of the band. This is a utterly captivating performance of a timeless classic rock song........i really should go back and listen to the album this is from. :O
Submareefa It's really good, it's called a Boy Named Goo. Got the tape when I was about 6 or 7 (?) From my uncle. Now I own it on CD, tape and vinyl and it's one of my favorite records ever. Their last amazing record.
I was only 1 when this song came out, but i appreciate all of their music. A true fan loves all of an artists music. There is one thing i can say though, about things which get better with age- Johnny Rzeznik! ;)
I love whatever they do. Ballads, heavy stuff. I don't care. I love them. And Johnny Rzeznik can do whatever the hell he likes as far as I'm concerned!
I can't beleive it took them 10 years and 5 albums to just get on national TV, also Robby was really chubby back then, he really shed off the pounds over the years. There old old stuff when Robby was then lead singer, they were pretty much early grunge/punk, nothing like they are now.
@@davecarsley8773 he also used to hang out with his sister after school too! I partied w/whoever is code for we both were near a party at the same time and possibly made eye contact.
listening to their newer material, namely because it is so raw and honest and by hearing that in the music you can easily tell that they are writing and performing from their hearts, and by doing that you cant say that they have sold out, or that they've only done "what needed to be done in order to remain united as a band" or that they just became successful because "they chose to give the masses that they wanted to hear". obviously if they didn't mean what they were writing, than not as
Their current music fills the world with the class, compassion, sympathy, and peace that it lacks. Has anyone ever had the misfortune of hearing meaningless, worthless "music" written to show the sexual mood of the "singer" or some other thought of equal unimportance? Johnny does whatever he wants and he does so CLEVERLY. HIS lyrics that HE WRITES are some of the most meaningful lyrics in the history of music and even if someone encouraged him to switch his style to his current style, they sho
That solo had a total Neil Young sound to it lol..........or even if Chuck Berry had come from the grunge/post-grunge/alternative "sound" at the time :D
Long Way Down is one of my favs! I can't wait for their CD, Magnetic. Ignore Rebel Beat. They have some great songs coming out. I've been able to hear 4 or 5. Each one was awesome! One of them is Keep the Car Running. It sounds great!
@reenactor19th Very well put. It is rare to see someone as yourself posting as you have, especially when 99.9 % of the people are never going to put their pride aside, and see things for what they are from a bird's eye, not just front row. I'd always envisioned the last concert they do, going through all the albums and putting on the show of their lives. And I'd hope to be there to see it as well.
They had the guitars & drums up way too loud so John had to go up a couple notches on his vocals. Not gonna lie, it sounded even better, felt like more emotion was pouring out Johns vocals. Classic GGD right here!
I dont understand the caption. They didnt sell out at all, they still play these songs. I saw them in Houston not to long ago and they played a bunch of their oldies. Even their bassist (i forgot his name all of a sudden) sang a couple of his songs, and those deffinately werent award winning songs. They were just being themselves and anyone who wanted to be apart of that was welcome to show up
Remember when him and Johnny took turns singing tunes? Wow that was way back when....they were so cool for not sounding like one long love song like these days*lol*
The Goo Goo Dolls blow away all other power pop rock bands because they're honest and actually struggled against all odds to make it on sheer talent and undying will....unlike the corporate fake bands like Nickleback and Matchbox 20. I've been a fan of the Goos since '93.
I like them very much! I mean "Iris" and "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" are the songs that turned me over to Rock, but after going back to their first album and listening to their latest albums, the Goo Goo Dolls started off as a rock band and yes I would like them to do more songs like this every now and then! Great song this is!
The reality is that all of you would also sell out for the "payday"! Great band in the day who made it. Good on them. Can always go back and listen to the better days.
This is the only song that I like from them, I saw them in concert about a few years ago at some car show and they were really good live! This is still the only song I really like from them, and I really LOVE THIS SONG!!! But you can't take away they sound great live!
I think Dizzy Up the Girl was their peak. A Boy Named Goo is what put them into the mainstream. This is the best song on the whole album in my opinion, go GOO GOOs! %%
Post some more videos. I subscribed to your channel. TH-cam's always been about finding people who understand the same things I dig and maybe getting some inspiration from it -to me. This was a breath of fresh air.
I don't understand the hate. They used to be young and crazy, and made fun music. But as they got older they wanted to sing about real things, and a lot of that came from life experience. Their new album (SFTROU) discussed some harsh topics and they wanted their message heard. In the words of Johnny that album was "commercial suicide". So no way in hell are the Goo's "sell-outs". THEY'RE STILL FUCKING AWESOME.
We didn’t know what we had.
His voice actually sounds like what it sounds on their albums. Imagine that. Not having to use auto tune.
It actually sounds better in this live version for this song.
Johnny's voice in 1996 was pure power...What a great performance!!
When live performances were actually Live.
I was like ?? about the guitar tone at the very beginning and then !!!!!!. Love this song too.
@@Rattles02 the guitar sounds incredible
miss this shit!
Totally unknown by most, but this is an all-time great live performance of any song by any band
So true man well said!! You can tell they are in the pocket!
BIG facts
I sought this particular performance out because someone in the comments of another video said this was one of the best live performances ever, and I was not disappointed.
Love the exaggerated head-hanging-down pose with the long 90s hair flowing
I want to go back to a world where this song is brand new.
1996 was peak human existence so far, it’s been downhill ever since.
@@iBMcFlyAbsolutely.
I remember watching this episode live. When music was real.
who woulda thought this pop band used to be respectable punks. Love both their genres.
So True ...
He's right outta Paul Westerberg's ass. This song rips..
Edit: I indirectly made a fart joke

This is the most 90s thing I have ever seen.
Just need to see a bunch of kids with dyed hair, baggy pants, and wallet chains, lol. Good times.
One of the most underrated songs of all time from one of the most underrated bands of all time
They totally owned on this night.
Such a freaking banger and underrated song. This song is the epitome of 90s
Probably the best live video and performance of this song..The audio, timing, vocals and instruments are all on point operating as one well oiled machine...Especially as far as the 1990's late night performances go. Johnny has such a great, natural rock voice..Auto tune not included.

TWISTER is on my mind when I listen to this... Good old 1996.
so sick, so raw

Solid drummer. Great time keeper.
dude i'm 21 as well and i would kill to have the 90s back... goood good times
How are you dude? Its been 12 years since you wrote this comment and I hope life is treating you well
This song is fuckin awesome. Great performance. They sound so good here. Love those guitars. Great vocals too.
From UK seen few times ! Prefer earlier stuff! Still have original cover ! Bit with jam in his face!
Been a fan since 96
I didn’t think Robby owned shoes😅. Great song!
An ex-boyfriend of mine bears a striking resemblance to John and he was a musician. So this brings back many memories. I love the Goo Goo Dolls.

I went to West Seneca East High School near Buffalo NY with Robbie Takac. Great down to earth guy.

what a stunning n crackin voice he had earlier now is soft
still they are awsm
There's just so much pain in this song. I wish I had the creativity to relay it as well as these guys do.
LOOONNNGG WAYYY DOWNNN
I DON'T THINK I'LL MAKE IT ON MY OWNNNNN
Johnny sounds GREAT here...best live performance of Long Way Down that I've heard by far
I remember watching this on TV. Always loved this song and this album.
Nothing sexier than 90s Johnny! Oh my gosh, Judy the way he plays the guitar is too much to take
Greatness that echoes in the vastness of eternity.

This always has been and always will be the only Goo Goo Dolls song that has mattered to me.

I like ALL of their stuff, old and new...loud and sappy. Just great and versatile musicians!
My favorite Goo Goo Dolls song! They sound and look awesome!

love the whole band but i like the bassist, dude has style.
Mitch Hedberg is a fantastic singer!

He's got an awesome haircut.
