She condemned the Upper East siders, but still tried to fit in with them and stuck her nose where it didn't belong. She had a habit of making things worse and gave off this pretense that she was innocent. But she had devious ways, which was ultimately what destroyed her friendship with Dan. The moment I officially lost respect for her was when she stole Nate's letter.

But as the show went on red flags went on how she was losing her morals and just becoming more Nosy, snobby then everyone around her. I think she wanted to usurp Blair's reign and Serena's Serena-ness (being favored by most guys) and own the Humphreys like they are a NFL team! Once these things started to wane, she slowly inched her way elsewhere, led by her ambition, so she'd feel high and mighty and not like a person who was losing Dan forever. Who cares, he writes catty tell-all books and she might be a better writer than he. On that note alone, I liked Vanessa.

personally i will defend her for that, what she did was absolutely wrong and she had no right, but from the moment she took it she felt guilty about it, she even confessed to Nate of her own volition and decided to break things off with him because of what she did. that was the moment i STARTED liking her and it made me respect that part of her. that same episode i recall is where jenny turned out to be the bitch and that’s when i started despising her.
I don't get Vanessa. She's trying to support herself in NY and doesn't even go to Constance, but she's showing up on campus, crashing parties, and starting up trouble. She never had any business being around that set in the first place and never should have DARED mouth off. PART B Then in season 1, episode 12, at some party at Blairs, Blair specifically tells her that she is not allowed to film there, she completely disregarded what Blair said in her OWN HOUSE, and decided to film Chuck and Blair talking about the night they had slept together, and then had the AUDACITY to tell Blair that it was HER footage and that she had a new angle for her subject, when Blair had specifically told her she could not film there.

She was a TERRIBLE influence and then once Jenny got what she wanted she embarrassed her in front of all her clients and tried to take half of the credit of the designs jenny put her blood sweat and tears into, and once jenny realized they weren't getting any buyers agnes promised her shed find them one but didnt, so jenny decided to go her own way and then agnes set all her clothes on fire. That was so uncalled for and I wouldve beat the shit outta her as soon as I saw her w those dresses. Then she pretends her and jenny are cool again but gets mad cuz jenny was pissed agnes drugged all the models with stolen pills and then drugs jenny at a huge job event and takes her to a bar full of perverted older assholes and leaves her there barely conscious to get raped knowing shes a virgin to make matters worse.
Vanessa: Hypocritical, Elitist, Jealous, Shady, Neutral One of the most hypocritical characters on the show. Hates the rich and 'elite' yet is an elitist herself. Hates drama but is always at the forefront of it, stirring the pot and causing it. I believe her character was supposed to serve as a balancing factor to the other characters in the show. As a constant reminder to Dan about where he came from and not to forget that. (Especially when getting tangled up in the world of the UES.) Someone who was supposed to be down to earth, friendly, mature and have a deep sense of morality. Her character was completely opposite of that. More about her character and what irked me about her -- she had no respect for others privacy or boundaries. Showed up at Dan's whenever she felt the need -- threw shade at Serena, Dan's girlfriend, many times. Which Serena, I might add, almost died because of Vanessa's contributuons to a scheme. Let's also not forget that she took Nate's letter to Jenny. She also submitted Dan's book without his approval or knowledge. Collected money for him in a different country because she knew she made many, many mistskes. And instead of owning up to her mistakes and taking responsibility -- she ran away. She quite literally fled the country. BUT. I'm not saying she's ALL bad. One could argue that she did what she felt was right at the time. She also got very overwhelmed with all of the scandals and drama -- but that reinforces my original point: she was the firestarter of a lot of it! You can't have your cake and eat it, too! If you hate drama, unsubscribe, stay out of it! Don't act all special because you were brought up differently and your way is the 'right' way. Anyways, she was cancelled almost from the start and remains to boot as one of this shows most annoying characters to me. ** Love the actress though, she played the part very well and accentuated Vanessa's sweeter and friendlier side. I think I would've truly hated this character if played by a different actress.
I spent 6 years watching Gossip Girl and every time I see Vanessa I VERY NEARLY THREW UP. Vanessa is the epitome of the ultimate hypocrite. She spent all of her appearances dissing how the rich life yet she amuses herself by irking...well, everyone. In short, she literally tries WAY, WAY TOO HARD to pretend to be someone she is not....and became a HORRIBLE PERSON AND CHARACTER EVER SINCE. I celebrated for 3 DAYS WHEN IT IS ANNOUNCED THAT SHE WILL NOT APPEAR AFTER HER LAST APPEARANCE ON THE SHOW. THANK GOD.

The character I love the most in GG is Blair. A self confident, determination, smart, bitch for her viral and enemies, heartfully care about her friends and lover. She made mistakes but unlike serena carelessly going out with all boys.
She may have “cared” about Serena but she was still an awful friend. She’d throw a tantrum if someone even said Serena was pretty and expected Serena to dim her light so she could feel better. The way the wrote Serena in the show is basically the Manic Pixie Dream Girl archatype. She is the love interest of the main character and not alot else. With GG they developed alot of the other chracters but didn't spend time on Serena because it would break the archatype.
Serena didn't need anyone's validation, but she needed someone to be her anchor in her life, because otherwise her aimlessness led her to naughty behavior. She was a flip-flopper, a young limo liberal.

Their is a definite bias among the Western culture that is only now starting to be adressed. Hollywood does have a prefrence and has used natrual hair as a trope in the past. Her character was important to show that even "good" or "well meaning" people can be loathsome. Vanessa was the antithesis of Blair- Even seemingly snobbish and vindictive people can be sensitive and warm-hearted; ~and~ Chuck- Even the most vile, horrible type of person can find redemption and even love. This is what good story telling is about- the plot twist. We all thought Blair was going to be the villain- but she turned out to be the hero in many ways. We thought Vanessa would be the good girl but she ended up falling from grace. She was written to be hated. And as far as her wardrobe- Again, she was meant to be the embodiment of everything Blair hated...down to the style, so...

I used to hate Dan, Vanessa & Jenny 😂 I mean yes serena was horrible sometimes but I never expected something better from her. I was never a fan of Vanessa. At first I wasn't sure why considering I like the actress in other things. But yeah I think it boils down to her being self-righteous, hypocritical, and having zero boundaries. Like when Serena & Dan are making out in bed. She climbs into the window, then when she sees what they're doing she just continues to make herself comfortable. It was weird. Then she's condemning them and acts like she's a 'film maker' but she wasn't trying to do much of anything except follow them. No random videos of people in the city or anything. Also, she was supposed be 16 and paying rent on her own? No. It was all just a strange mesh. Not to mention her clothes. I've seem people shopping at thrift stores with better style. Personally i think some of the writing could have been done better. The only characters i loved throughout all of the seasons was Chuck, Blair and Nate. One of the most hypocritical characters on the show. Hates the rich and 'elite' yet is an elitist herself. Hates drama but is always at the forefront of it, stirring the pot and causing it.
I believe her character was supposed to serve as a balancing factor to the other characters in the show. As a constant reminder to Dan about where he came from and not to forget that. (Especially when getting tangled up in the world of the UES.) Someone who was supposed to be down to earth, friendly, mature and have a deep sense of morality. Her character was completely opposite of that.
More about her character and what irked me about her -- she had no respect for others privacy or boundaries.
Showed up at Dan's whenever she felt the need -- threw shade at Serena, Dan's girlfriend, many times. Which Serena, I might add, almost died because of Vanessa's contributuons to a scheme. Let's also not forget that she took Nate's letter to Jenny.
She also submitted Dan's book without his approval or knowledge. Collected money for him in a different country because she knew she made many, many mistskes.
And instead of owning up to her mistakes and taking responsibility -- she ran away. She quite literally fled the country.
BUT. I'm not saying she's ALL bad.
One could argue that she did what she felt was right at the time. She also got very overwhelmed with all of the scandals and drama -- but that reinforces my original point: she was the firestarter of a lot of it! You can't have your cake and eat it, too!
If you hate drama, unsubscribe, stay out of it! Don't act all special because you were brought up differently and your way is the 'right' way.
Anyways, she was cancelled almost from the start and remains to boot as one of this shows most annoying characters to me.

I spent 6 years watching Gossip Girl and every time I see Vanessa I VERY NEARLY THREW UP.
Vanessa is the epitome of the ultimate hypocrite. She spent all of her appearances dissing how the rich life yet she amuses herself by irking...well, everyone.
In short, she literally tries WAY, WAY TOO HARD to pretend to be someone she is not....and became a HORRIBLE PERSON AND CHARACTER EVER SINCE.
I celebrated for 3 DAYS WHEN IT IS ANNOUNCED THAT SHE WILL NOT APPEAR AFTER HER LAST APPEARANCE ON THE SHOW. THANK GOD.
Oh and do not even make me talk about her constantly meddling in other peoples relationships (1st season Derena anyone? 2nd season Jenny/Nate and the letter?) What kind of a good person does that? Now do not get me wrong, I really do HOPE that she sees the error of her ways and becomes a better person (and I do not particularly dislike N/V), but to me she is still the same pretentious mean girl from Brooklyn who hates rich people. The way the wrote Serena in the show is basically the Manic Pixie Dream Girl archatype. She is the love interest of the main character and not alot else. With GG they developed alot of the other chracters but didn't spend time on Serena because it would break the archatype.
Serena didn't need anyone's validation, but she needed someone to be her anchor in her life, because otherwise her aimlessness led her to naughty behavior. She was a flip-flopper, a young limo liberal.

I had mixed feelings about Vanessa, Serena, and Dan. I liked them a little bit, but there were some parts that made me dislike them. Yeah, I get that these characters are supposed to make mistakes, but Vanessa wasn't very compassionate towards anything she did to anyone. I hated Sage, Asher, Juliet, and Ivy. Those were the characters I hated when I first saw them. It's funny that everyone dislikes Jenny though. I actually like her, and her character development is what actually makes her interesting to watch. Blair was my favorite character in the entire series and still is. @@bubblesbubbles7988 so is it a coincidence that Vanessa is somehow the most hated character even though there is an actual rapist (Chuck), a sociopath (Dan), and the most manipulative person (Blair) amongst the main characters? I admit that they butchered the Vanessa character in Season 4 but actually up until that point, she was the coolest character, so this video, which doesn't even include Season 4, makes no sense.

Her character was important to show that even "good" or "well meaning" people can be loathsome. Vanessa was the antithesis of
Blair- Even seemingly snobbish and vindictive people can be sensitive and warm-hearted; ~and~
Chuck- Even the most vile, horrible type of person can find redemption and even love.
This is what good story telling is about- the plot twist. We all thought Blair was going to be the villain- but she turned out to be the hero in many ways.
We thought Vanessa would be the good girl but she ended up falling from grace.
She was written to be hated. And as far as her wardrobe- Again, she was meant to be the embodiment of everything Blair hated...down to the style, so...

Honestly, she just literally just a teenager. It’s hard for me to hate her because before I watched this the actress was in one of my favorite shows and my favorite character so when I watch this I just see that.
The way she showed up and decided that she was in charge or something..? I hated how she acted like she was better than all the people in the upper east side and always throwing shade at them
One of the less talked about but still as equally annoying... When she blackmailed Blair to expose why her and Marcus broke up, and when Blair played her back, she acted as though she did nothing wrong and Blair and Chuck chose to humiliate her for no reason. Girl... way to conveniently leave out the part where you started it by threatening to blackmail Blair. She acted like she was so above it all when in reality she was just like the Upper East Siders.

She didn't own up to her part in drugging Serena. I would've loved to have seen Dan or Blair give her a verbal beat down but it never happened.
Yay I love this! I hate her for multiple reasons but her playing a part in Serena’s drugging and then shifting the blame on Jenny was low. Also stealing Dan’s book was really annoying. She was just annoying

Vanessa's character in this show honestly did not make sense at all. She is a whole walking contradiction. Hates rich kids; hangs out with them. Hates Serena, continues to obsessively take her down. Butts into everyone's business; is a fool for not knowing the ACTUAL business (i.e. Nate's situation). I honestly don't understand why they continued to keep her around.
I hate both Vanessa and Jessica. They are both very annoying. Good job hitting all the points as to why Vanessa is annoying.

I used to hate Dan, Vanessa & Jenny 😂 I mean yes serena was horrible sometimes but I never expected something better from her. No matter what she did I always felt like "huh that‘s serena" and I just can’t hate her I love her and Blake way too much for that but Dan annoys me so much especially after what he wrote in his book making everyone (even his dad) look bad except for blair although she‘s the one who treated him the worst but he still made her the star of the book bc he was in love with her and even decided to not give Nate his own character. And I hated his relationship with the teacher, I mean he was the one blaming everyone who thought she was sleeping with him and got sooo mad about it and then 10 sec later he had sex with her in her apartment and acted like it‘s normal. And the whole Gossip Girl thing, although he didn‘t ruin their lifes at the end, he made them suffer a lot. I just hate him... after all I just love Blair & Chuck and can we all agree that Nate is the hottest man in the show (then chuck)
But I can‘t deny that Vanessa is mad gorgeous. Her eyes, her hair, her face, just everything. Jessica Szohr is really beautiful
I was never a fan of Vanessa. At first I wasn't sure why considering I like the actress in other things. But yeah I think it boils down to her being self-righteous, hypocritical, and having zero boundaries. Like when Serena & Dan are making out in bed. She climbs into the window, then when she sees what they're doing she just continues to make herself comfortable. It was weird. Then she's condemning them and acts like she's a 'film maker' but she wasn't trying to do much of anything except follow them. No random videos of people in the city or anything. Also, she was supposed be 16 and paying rent on her own? No. It was all just a strange mesh. Not to mention her clothes. I've seem people shopping at thrift stores with better style. It was all so awkward.
As much as I hate elitist in real life, I always defend Blair in this show. But the most annoying people in the show were Serena, Vanessa, and Jenny.
