I am still so so salty about how litfic scifi is this year. Even just looking at my own GR shelf of 2023 SciFi, there's SO MANY proper SF they could've chosen from: Paradise-1, The Archive Undying, Feed Them Silence, Over the Moon, The Scourge Between Stars, Neon Ghosts, Whalefall, Ashes of Man, The Death I Gave Him, The Blighted Stars, and The Mimicking of Known Successes.

I think they need to make dystopian separate so that the litfic that is dystopian but not SF will be separate

For the mystery/thriller category, I noticed a lack of diversity in terms of plot. Almost all of the candidates had the same type of plot tropes: female protagonist that usually is too stupid to live, yet does in these books, male character that is too good to be true, but is the villian, and there is a bunch of twists that actually ruin the story instead of enhancing it. I'm not surprised Freida's book won even though her books follow the same formula.. but she does have strong writing that gets you into the story (like a Sidney Sheldon or V.C Andrews book from the Boomer era where the stories are eh.. but the writing draws you in).

I LOVED None of this is True! That’s 100% the TRUTH🥰 and I Don’t think she was saying that being a Pediphile is ok at all. She continually pointed out what a creep he was. For sure the audiobook was the best way to read this story I think.

I really liked Secret Lives of Puppets, but I know that a lot of people were expecting another cozy fantasy from him and it is Not fantasy. Scalzi's was very good. I do think Scalzi earned the win(for backlist alone 😂). But yeah, no space opera's or real space adventures, ala a Star Trekish world. But, I'm still very salty about the mystery/thriller winner. The only one that won that I think deserved the win was the Britney Spears book. That girl deserved the win. Grady Hendrix was robbed too. Holly was a bad book, fortunately for it(and not us 😏) it was written by King.

I usually agree with you on books but the criticism of The Bone Season was so unfair, it might be set in a city, but it's not urban fantasy, it's closer to high fantasy meets sci-fi, it's my favourite series and keeps getting better. Samantha Shannon did republish the first one because she wrote it when she was so young and her writing got much better, but she's still writing the series and it's great!

I read The Light Pirate. It's dystopian set in the near future and has "magical realism" but for real the magical realism doesn't show up until like the last 15 page of the book. It is litfic, and shouldn't have even been nominated. I liked it, but it was a solid 3 stars, nothing special. Plus I was mad because I'd been told magical realism and it barely showed up.

Just an FYI, The Wishing Game is NOT erotic in any way, shape, or form. Not erotic, no taboo, not even a romance book, really. It's about as opposite from what she wrote under her actual name as possible. Lol. I loved The Wishing Game, but I would call it a sweet, cozy story.

😂 She don't know me. 🤣 She doesn't know me either. 😉 Yes, author of Caraval says it all-hard pass. SJM-the author for people who don't read. Yep, that answers so many questions for me. 😂 I still think she gets paid per ellipses in her books. That's the only way it makes any sense to have about a thousand of them per book...🤔and the more I think about it I feel like the actual number is higher. I, also wish someone would teach her how to use them properly since she does not in her books. But she also doesn't know how to world build, character build or plot properly either, so at least she's consistent. 🤷‍♀️ Shark Heart was good and just a very unique book. I liked The Bandit Queens too. Weyward I DNF'D. It was just so boring 💤. That one Goodreads ' employee. 😂 That's why the cut off date is November for entries. It takes that long for the one guy in the janitorial closet to count all the votes. 😂

OMG 😂 Song of Achilles and Circe. They were both Everywhere for Way too long. They were very meh to me and all the 😭 videos ad nauseum. Just like The Hating Game-very meh from a few years ago, but all the Tik Tok girlie decreed..."this book must be read...and so it was..." I think we need to overthrow the current rulers. 😉
