Thanks for the barred owl noises, we hear them alllll the time outside the window. I knew it was an owl, but not what kind until now.

At this moment I hear 5 different Barred Owls Talking to one another. We live in the Everglades in remote area & love hearing them. Better than traffic noises in the city. During the day we hear Hawks, Woodpeckers & other noises, even wild Turkey's.
    Thanks for posting.

I have a pair of eastern screech owls. The female is nesting in a hollow hole In my front yard oak tree. The male starts coming around just after sundown to feed her. I pretty sure she has eggs and is taking care of them. Quit interesting to watch!!

Never ever mess with an Owl. You might do and think you have got away with it but know that they will cripple you financially and socially. It is just what they do.
They will finish you and not give a hoot.

I appreciate the barred owl sounds. Confirms that's what I'm hearing, but you didn't say what they eat. Do they take chickens? Small dogs (8#). What is their range? I don't hear them every night, but every few days, I'll hear what seems to be 2 or 3 - one close to my house, others distance. I live next to Black Sink Prairie in Florida. Thanks for the basic info!

I wasn't familiar with any owl sounds other than the generic hoo hoo sounds. Sitting outside tonight I heard a call. I knew it was an owl, but now I know it is a barred owl. Sounded like a couple of them talking to each other.

That wasn’t a screech owl it was a doevues known as the tiny owl or African scops owl. Found in sub Saharan Africa. Screeches have dark banding around their cute faces. This tiny owl is mostly uniformly brown with no visible markings. Ali have brown eyes. Screeches have a hymn looking green eye with a black pupil. If I’m wrong about this you can spank me because I’ll deserve it. But I’m sure I don’t.

In some countries, yes. Not really in the United States. There are some states that allow you to use owls as a falconry bird, but they don't make good falconry birds unless you really, really know what you are doing. And if you capture one in the wild for that purpose, you still don't own it, it's considered managed by the state and the federal government with you just sort of borrowing it for your own purposes, meaning they can make you relinquish it at any time, inspect its living conditions at any time, and you have to abide by a strict regimen of regulations. I believe there may be some owl breeders and states that let you buy owls, but you still have to follow many of the same regulations. And I think they only breed barn owls.
