Reggie Young ended up being one of the most-recorded session guitarists in history, by the time all was said and done. He had the good fortune to be born in the right place at the right time, but he sure-as-heck worked hard to make the most of his God-given talent and the opportunities which came his way. I'm just thankful the tape was running when Reggie laid down all of those tasty, tasty guitar tracks. Here's more to think about... even if Reggie Young had retired from music in the early-mid 1970s when the Memphis soul scene started fading a bit, his place in popular music history would have been assured, thanks to his recordings with the likes of the Box Tops, James Carr, Elvis, King Curtis, Dobie Grey, the Purify Brothers, and Dusty Springfield, to name only a few, while part of the session crew at American studios. But then Reggie moved to Nashville, and did it all over again, becoming one of the top session guitar players in that town as well. There are so few guitar players with that kind of studio pedigree - Steve Cropper, Cornell Dupree, Albert Lee, Brent Mason, some of the Hollywood guys maybe... thanks for all of the great music, Reggie, rest in peace, brother...

Great job man. I grew up right here in the bluff city where Reggie made all this magic at American. Reggie is the master of tasteful licks and riffs, and one heck of a fine man. Love it!

I now believe that it is not Reggie on "The Chair." It looks to be Muscle Shoals guitarist, Larry Byrom. Young did play on "The Fireman," and many other George Strait hits.

Dude, I just discovered your message from many months ago, and this video, I love it! What a wonderful tone you're getting there, son.

What a compliment. Not many people are privileged to get a message from the king of southern soul guitar.

Reggie toured with my cousin Bob Tucker in the Bill Black Combo. They were the opening act on the first Beatles U.S tour in 64. Zak is the real deal. A true music guy.
