Even as someone who mostly has a pretty different taste in music (Big exceptions here and there, and I always enjoy listening), I LOVE his videos. TH-cam is just such a crazy resource, all sorts of perspectives, and people like VR make that dream happen. I can only imagine what it'd be like if my favorite artist shared this much.
Hey man, you probably won’t read this, but thanks for giving the guy in the bedroom some relatable knowledge. You’re a genius man, thanks for helping me out.
after all these crazy resonator- and mudpie videos this was a nice reminder that you're just a human being with sometimes normal desires, like throwing a simple sound into a sampler. i could literally recommend this video to a beginner and it wouldn't be too confusing
I don’t even make music but I absolutely love watching your videos and seeing how you make your awesome music! So excited to see the new body of work!!
I Have a handful of romplers and its genuinely incredible how the engineers back in the day achieved what they did. It gives you a love for samplers and what you can do with them, like faking many FX with just clever adsr and smart loop points.
Just the tuning hack alone was worth the watch. Now I can pitch sounds that never seem to register in the tuner, using another source, like a guitar. Silly me. Thnxx.
My brain is about to melt from information overload! These tutorials have been amazing even when I’m not an Abelton user. Thank you very much and much love!
I won't unsubscribe from your patrion because I've just subscribed and I I really appreciate what you've shared in the past year it's more than I can digest anyways, so enjoy writing music, you're our inspiration, but please do come back.
you say you don't have much to show us, but i don't think you know how many of us would just watch you goof around and do whatever in ableton. it's so inspiring!
As a fellow touring musician who also makes tutorials, I HAVE to use a webcam direct into screenflow for super fast editing or else I would never get anything uploaded.
A cool fun fact he shared when he was featured in the XLNT Sound Podcast: He said he didn't fact check it - and neither have i - but he mentioned that if you speed sound frequencies up so that they become colour frequencies, notes in the same scale become complimentary colours as well. He also said that notes in the same scale have rhythmic relationships as demonstrated in this video. He joked about designing a table where the ratio of the table's dimensions and it's colours can be converted into a chord and a rhythm, iirc haha
@@henryisaway the part about colors is untrue and kinda nonsensical if you look at the difference in musical harmony and color theory, the two fields work entirely different. the latter part about rhythm i dont understand. what do you mean by rhythm in this context?
@@DoctorSoctopus oh i see. its not surprising though, you can do this with any cyclic function and if the nodes of that functions are multiples of the logarithm of 1/12th of the fundamental it will give you a 12tet chord. you can apply the same idea to distortion and create a transfer function that turns any tone into a chord. as long as all frequencies scale with their relative factors intact it will remain a chord.
Don't ever feel like you have to make people happy. As long as your heart is in the right place and you are being your authentic self. You have no need to try and appease. I have really enjoyed the ride and tangents that your videos have inspired. Keep on being you. Much love.
just found you. dude....as an ableton user for years is can 100% say your ideas are soooooooo fuking good and game changing!!!! brahhhhhhhh!!!! where have you been all my life!
You got a like the first vid I seen now you get a like and a sub some of the best ableton content on youtube in my opinion thanks for the time and effort.
Why and how are you the nicest guy ever??? You just give away your genius because you know that you have to share the gift you were born with. Big ups brother, keep it up! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
That intro was so thoughtful, and you're so down to earth man. Your music has always been next level, really, and it’s brought me so much joy over the years. So to me, I’ll wait however long I need to for more. Take your time brother
Thank you so much. You have such a gift for what you do, and your insight into mangling the low end is second to none. Really appreciate you. And you know what, I have watched every video i think in the webcam format and find it's more intimate, like Im learning from a friend showing me something. Keep doin' it this way please, fantastic stuff, mate. Cheers from Niagara Falls, Canada!
you've done more than enough with these tutorial series... lotta things to unpack and play with.. go get your other quests done.. and always keep being awesome 👍
If you think people aren't getting their money's worth, it all just depends on how people use this knowledge in their projects. Also the stuff you put out are quality stuff so I don't see a problem. I think most people may just not be that knowledgeable that's why they think they aren't getting what they're paying for. 😅Don't know what everyone else thinks but I'm just saying what I feel. Just don't want you to be stressed out man. You've given me so much to learn. Big love❤️
Videos like these should inspire me to learn these techniques but all it does is depressing me that I'm not as creative and good as you for example But it was a nice journey to watch!
I actually did a record session with a single waterdrop sound and added EQ, reverb and Delay and fiddled a lot around with it and I got some very nice results, by playing around with the pitch, mulholland drive and pogo, stereo delay and reverb in the sample precomputed effects. I rendered most parts of it for later sounddesign purposes. :D
12:15 sounds like living mice - C418 (Minecraft soundtrack) except the first note here is down by one halfstep, its so funny when people accidentally write something that already exists
11:30 Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Transp and Detune settings are not tuned to "typical" tuning. That sounds super good on it's own tho!! Wondering if he did change anything around 13:54 for the little jam
all of the sounds in here are ones that I’ve always wanted to make but never quite sounded right. I need to see if I can do this or something similar in FL…
Thank you for all your help with this i cant wait till you show us how you make all your amazing pads, hope you have a great time and cant wait to hear the big amount of music you ll work on
its crazy to see that even an established legendary artist like Virtual Riot is struggling to monetise their music career. If anyone still considers music as a career to feed themselves and or their families, DONT!. Its impossible unlees you are one of the lucky 0.1%
Val, You have been my favorite artist for Years. Please never stop using the amazing musical gift you have. ❤
Even as someone who mostly has a pretty different taste in music (Big exceptions here and there, and I always enjoy listening), I LOVE his videos.

agreed
For real
i feel like am witnessing a wizard showing off how he makes his potions - more of this pls, webcam is totally fine, the content is great.
I don't do any kind of music production and this is absolutely blowing my mind, at 11:45 I legitimately was like "Oh my God"
Hey man, you probably won’t read this, but thanks for giving the guy in the bedroom some relatable knowledge. You’re a genius man, thanks for helping me out.

lol wow that synth at 11:42 sounds so nice. I'm ready to watch 4 hours of nature footage while that synth plays random chords in the background
spot on :D
For me, it sounds like the ambient stuff from aphex twin🤓
Around 12:05, it starts to remind me of the Donkey Kong Country soundtracks by David Wise.

thanks for your wisdom!! 💞👏🏼
dunno why but that reminds me so much of old minecraft console winter season music
really interesting and gorgeous!
I'm not even 5 minutes in and I've already learned a lot. LOVE the section starting around 4:36. Immediately super inspiring (imo). Thank you, VR
that sound around 11:31 is gorgeous. my god.
death by amen has me hooked on this channel now lole
his 3 hour track from scratch video had me hooked
yalll not no vr head like me doe...

Definitely check out his old music

the only person to ever make a single Kalimba sample sound like the entire Steve Miller Band 🤯
that shave and a haircut intro - top tier
Dude you’re the goat 🐐
Used to do this all the time in Impulse Tracker because it was the only real option to make samples interesting
Man Im hype about all these uploads. keep grinding.

Okay that synth at 11:40 that you made sounded pretty as hell, shocked it came from that bass one-shot 😮
Love you Val! So happy you're in a good creative space again!

I really appreciate your honesty. I suddenly feel inclined to support your patreon.
you're just such an amazing guy im so grateful that you found what you love and make a life of it
I want to be a dubstep dj so bad but I don't trust anyone else but you. I'm so glad you're doing tutorials! I will join your patreon!
The way you played your melodies in this video reminds me of Video game music. Especially the ones that were more freetime
The fact that the 5th is also the 3:2 polyrhythm is magical to me.

That's the harmonic series for ya, specifically the second and third harmonics. And ratios like this are the foundation of just-intonations.
