La plus française des chanteuses anglaises ! Belle voix , interprétation très juste , et cette diction PARFAITE , ce qui est le minimum requis - mais pas toujours à l'appel !- pour la mélodie française !

It is as if this aria had been written for her. Every phrase, every tone color and every gesture make sense. I'm deeply moved. Such a beautiful woman with a generous heart.

this song fills my heart with joy
A wonderful performance, very vibrant, very "live." She is aided by the best pianistic performance i've ever heard of it; perfectly judged rythm of the "valse-musette," harmonies brought out, clarity yet with discretion! Flott's "ossia" as final cadence,(also to be heard in Jessye Norman's version, and some others),is a tour de force of expressive artistry.

A wonderful live performance, and she also recorded this number on a Hyperion CD in which she shares the all-Poulenc program with a few other singers. Interestingly, her last two pitches are F-natural at the top of the staff to the A-flat above, while the written cadence is from the A-flat to the D-flat within the staff. Poulenc wouldn't have minded this, I believe.

@NOSEhow2LIV @NOSEhow2LIV Yes, I believe you're right that in what he called his "concerted" (i.e., more artistic) songs, he probably expected his singer to perform the music as written. But "Les chemins" was popularized and recorded by the singing actress Yvonne Printemps (see the article on her in Wikipedia) and I sense it was created as more of a pop song. I also agree that Ms. Lott would have charmed the composer.
I can but offer this. But 1940, Printemps's approach, and even the text are different, even very different. I think Poulenc loved the understated, the subdued passion of Rocamadour and that it can be situated even in what seems on one level a worldly song. Close examination of the text however, reveals touches of Baudelaire and of Proust which would not have escaped the notice of Francis...

@Mezzotenor I think Poulenc might have "minded," the idea, as he was fairly picky on certain details, but i'm sure he'd have been won over if he'd heard this marvellous artistry!
Je suis en train de comparer pas mal de versions de ce chant. Pourquoi faut-il que les artistes français(es) ne soient pas fichues de prononcer aussi bien que Felicity Lott, c'est décidément incompréhensible, c'est le cas de le dire!!!!!
Pourquoi ne pas nommer son inoubliable créatrice Yvonne Printemps insurpassable dans cette mélodie et à laquelle F L Rend hommage par sa merveilleuse interprétation
@@bellairfrancois5386 ...parce que mon échantillonnage n'était pas exhaustif, j'ai écouté les versions proposées par youtube. Il est évident que vous avez raison. Mais croyez-moi, en tant que compositeur de mélodies, je n'ai pas souvent croisé de gens qui prononcent aussi bien que les monstres sacrés d'autrefois. Tout est lié, lié grassement, marmonné, le style s'est majoritairement perdu
many are excited, but of the maybe 70-80 versions you can find on youtube (and I heard them all) this is far from the best. The vibration is most disturbing and she might be a big name, but this doesn't mean that ALL aria's or Lieder she sings are automatically excellent. Every singer has repertoire that fits and also repertoire that is done far better by others. Les chemins de l'amour is not fitting her, at least not here, maybe it was better when she was younger with less vibrato.
La voix de cette femme est absolument HORRIBLE! Peutetre elle e'tait malade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOMMAGE!

Felicity Lott forse era gia' un po' usurata ma canta ed espone divinamente e canta assai meglio delle presunte fraseggiatrici come Crespin, Mesple o Pollet, con imposti vocali piuttosto discutibili come in tutta la scuola francese di canto che e' pressoche' inesistente o del tutto nasale, che veramente sanno di poco e non hanno lasciato grandi traccie sul loro cammino. Felicity ha classe e musicalita' da vendere e una comunicativa senza pari.
