I love it! I've been eyeing that pattern for awhile so it's great to see what it looks like on a body! I have been led astray by pattern illustrations too many times...
This is soooo cute, I love what you chose to do with this fabric and how different our projects were! Also watching this was super fun because I’m so familiar with the fabric my brain kept getting excited about it! I can’t wait to see the other sewing collabs you have!
Abby Cox and Bernadette Banner both have great videos on hand sewing tips that helped my hand sewing out so much! Practice helps a lot to but using good technique and proper equipment (thimble!!) is what really helped me the most.
Hey Ms. Drew. That is a lovely dress. Really well done. And I love a good collaboration... My first few projects were entirely sewn by hand because it was the start of ye old lockdowns (the hand-crank machine came home a year later). I did a circle skirt, a pencil skirt, Bernadette Banners' Pirate Shirt. bunches of face masks, and most of the mock-ups for my Foundations Revealed entry. Yes. It does get easier. And yes you're stitches improve. It was actually quite enjoyable. Highly recommend. I am presently making myself my first fully lined belt (black vegetable tan belt & buckle with a red leather lining). I'm only at the halfway point, so I shouldn't jinx it, but... it's coming together really quickly. This is part of why I fell down the leather rabbit hole - belts with absolutely no elastic in them (the trials and tribulations of being curvy on this continent...). Have yourselves a very good Easter weekend. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
@@SewSewDrew Thank you Ms. Drew. And I hope the Bunny egg hunt goes wonderfully. And yeah, the FR competition. Not quite sure what I'm making. But I know there will be a corset belt to go with. Because it's a need/want/need in my life... Last time I did a 50;s pencil dress for 'Streetcar Named Desire". This time around?...
Looks very cute on you! Great to choose a vintage pattern that’s available to purchase! If you are having problems with your waistbands you can look it up in a sewing book or I bet there are a lot of waistband tutorials on TH-cam you can binge and take notes. When I research a unfamiliar technique I look at a lot of different resources and pick and choose what ways that suits me and combine it to my own. Happy sewing 🧵 ♥️
That is too cute!!! I’m in love with the 1940’s fashion for every day functional femininity 💁🏽♀️🥰. Some of the 50’s can be too kitchy to me but I do the 50’s for my glam looks. Keep going sis!! I may have to break my sewing machine out 👀👀👀 lol
Very pretty! Love the pattern and the fabric - both from my era. I agree it should have been lined, the end results would have a more professional appearance. Good job! Just found your and Hayley’s channel. Thanks for a fun watch. ❤️😃🌺
My first hand sewing project was a very wonky corset style top! It is most definitely a decorative piece :D I found that making the boning channels let me try out a whole lot of different stitches in straight lines that weren't too long, so I could sit down for a bit in the afternoon and just decide - "alright lets try some teeny tiny back stitches for this one", or "how about we play with decorative herringbone stitches at the bottom". It's a project that is *just* fiddly enough that you don't want to whip out the machine after a few minutes (as hemming does for me!) More good practice comes from stitching down facings! I have some inexpensive and thrifted jackets and dresses where the facings would flip out or were only tacked down with a few stitches at the seams and were bulky. It made such a difference to just have it fixed down with an invisible stitch to the feel of the garment, and great practice.
First of all… you’ve got us all beat for hot girl summer 😍. So cute! It has taken me like two years of randomly hand-sewing different projects to start to feel okay about my stitches so don’t feel any kind of way about your stitches!! I really like this style video where it feels like we are chatting between sewing and you let us know what’s going on.
The fabric is actually called dotted Swiss. The fabric was super popular when I was a little girl up until my daughter was small. I love it and your outfit turned out beautiful!!!!!
Cute! Looks very comfy and cool! Collabs bring me so much joy 😍 I always thought hand-sewing whole garments would be torture, but when I finally sat down and did it, I found it was actually relaxing and really rewarding. I leveled up with historical underpinnings, but if you wanted to go vintage, maybe a head scarf or something else small and quick, then move into something like a circle skirt, which would have a looot of hemming to practice with, and vertical seams that won't take too much strain while you work to get better at them. (But don't do it with stretch fabric. That's pure masochism.)
I always love watching you on the machine I need to get better at filming myself sewing in my vlogs such a lovely dress looked really nice on you perfect for summer xx
Thank you! If you watch my first couple of videos you will see absolute growth the filming process is a whole Extra element that adds hours to a sewing project but I’m starting to love it a lot more now that I have actual equipment and figuring out my storytelling & editing style ❤️
Such a cute little summer dress! I'm curious: with the little front cut-out and cap sleeves, where would you say this pattern falls on layout efficiency/fabric requirements?
It turns out so cute! That fabric is darling. It looks so comfy and pretty for summer. I don’t think you showed it but did you serge the unenclosed seams?
Omg I want to go so badly! Still hoping to. Look at the invents you want to attend some are specific years. Look in the description get my email and let’s chat!

Bernadette Banner was so amazing for getting me to enjoy hand sewing - it's therauputic now rather than a chore!

Drew, I would love to know the name of the dressmaking factory you visited in South Carolina. Super cute dress!
It does not really have a name anymore but email me and I will give you contact info 😊

@@SewSewDrew yes it’s defo something that comes with time I imagine
Can you please do a tutorial on romantic vintage 70s 80s long sleeve blouse ?
I sure will give me couple weeks & I got you!!♥️
Such a cute little summer dress! I'm curious: with the little front cut-out and cap sleeves, where would you say this pattern falls on layout efficiency/fabric requirements?
It didn’t take much fabric at all about especially because no lining and not a lot of facing either. Probably about 2.5 yards
@@SewSewDrew Cool!
So lovely!! I' just picked up a modern pattern that looks very similar, so I can't wait to see how you tackle this before I try:)
What’s the modern one that is similar?
Mccalls m7950! I bought it just for the tie front details
It turns out so cute! That fabric is darling. It looks so comfy and pretty for summer. I don’t think you showed it but did you serge the unenclosed seams?
Thank you. And no I don’t own a serger. I use pinking sheers ☺️
Question, do you know about the dandy Wellington crossing in october? Any advice on what I should wear?
