Designing the Ultimate Summer Retreat: Albatroz House for a Family of Four

Albatroz House, designed by Sala 03 Arquitetura, serves as the perfect summer retreat for a family of four. Located on a sloping site, the project combined three lots into two to maximise usable space and preserve the stunning view of the condominium's golf course. The design seamlessly integrates the living room with the gourmet kitchen, dining area, terrace, pool, and sauna, overcoming the physical and regulatory challenges of the site.
The house features a mix of innovative and traditional materials. The ground floor uses glued laminated timber (GLT), which provides a lightweight structure and a natural aesthetic that blends with the surrounding forest. The lower level, built with a metal structure, ribbed slab, stone, and concrete, balances robustness with lightness. The roof, made of TPO membrane over OSB boards, and the wall finishes of split stone, concrete slats, and white paint complete the design.
The carpentry in the social areas allows for complete opening to the terrace, pool, and sauna, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the exterior. As you enter through the main door, the foyer flows directly into the living area and gourmet kitchen, with minimal separation from the terrace. The ground floor also includes three full suites, service areas, and a washroom.
Descending the spiral staircase or accessing from the exterior garage, you reach the lower level, which houses the utility room, a TV room, and a multipurpose space that can serve as a gym, game room, or workshop, adapting to the family’s changing needs. Every detail of the design was carefully selected to achieve visual harmony, combining various materials without overwhelming the spaces. The decoration follows Sala 03 Arquitetura's minimalist style, with furniture pieces that subtly stand out without dominating the environment. The views from the front and back of the house, framed by the carpentry and wooden brise-soleil, are the true highlights of Albatroz House.
