Tears of the Kingdom’s opening was a kickstart for the game. One moment you as Link, were exploring the underground ruins beneath Hyrule castle. You found the mummified corpse of Ganondorf. Which ends with Link getting his right arm damaged, while watching the Master Sword getting shattered into pieces, which was the moment you lose Zelda & you spent the entire game to find her, while saving Hyrule all over again.
Majora’s Mask is the best. It’s artistically rich, with a mysterious and dark tone that creates a perfect, weird atmosphere. It feels like a twisted reflection of Ocarina of Time, capturing that sense of eerie perfection.
I take it you haven’t played Tears of the Kingdom then? There was never any doubt. The author avoids showing us things for spoilers sake here. But give it a play and you’ll get it.

@@_VictoryGuy_all mm's intro did was have link chase skull kid and fall down a hole 😂, doesn't really give any backstory to why link is even out there other than "searching for an old friend", tears of the kingdom gives you lore behind hyrule and the zonai, then ganondorf wakes up attacks link and zelda, takes all of links hearts, breaks the master sword, has great dialogue, then upheaves hyrule castle, and zelda falls and link is saved by raurus arm, but majoras mask is better because link falls down a hole and turns into a deku scrub, sure...

It’s just that, at the time, I was finishing up the Souls series, having just completed Dark Souls 3 and looking forward to Sekiro. My friend lent me TOTK, but I think my mind was still in that darker, more atmospheric headspace, so TOTK didn’t capture me with the same magic. I do plan on finishing TOTK eventually, but I’m currently wrapping up Sekiro and then moving on to Elden Ring. When it comes to the intro, while TOTK does a good job building lore and setting up the story, I personally prefer the surreal, abstract vibe of Majora’s Mask that doesn’t rely on explicit explanations. It’s less about having a guided backstory and more about setting an unsettling, mysterious tone that leaves room for interpretation. For me, Majora’s Mask feels more artistically immersive because it allows the player to experience the world in a unique, open-ended way.

Every The Legend of Zelda openings are good, but defienitily The Legend of Zelda main theme is the BEST and it's one of the biggest reasons why The Legend of Zelda is my favourite video game series yes I love an adventure action games and Nintendo, but oh god the music in Zelda games are so beautiful! 😊❤
I actually think totk is better than botw but no Zelda game has a better opening than breath of the wild.. when link first exits the shrine and he runs to the edge of the cliff if just perfection not to mention the great plateau is the perfect tutorial for a game
My gf bought me this game as a random surprise. I remember when I first started the game and saw the opening scene. I felt like I was 10 years old again and discovering zelda all over again, what a beautiful moment I wish I could live again
Skyward sword will be forever one of the best intros ever! It was beautiful in every way, we get to be close to Zelda for the first time and the atmosphere was spectacular, I love how that was getting deeper and deeper

@@jclkaytwo I understand how you feel, but for me it's kinda what I had wanted, it immerses you to the every day life of a community and thus making you emotionally attached to it and its characters, making you care more about the story it tries to tell, but maybe a bit too much, just a bit. Also one of the faults of the game is that overall you don't end up caring too much about the characters of the village. They could've done more with that aspect.

while i don't think there ever is an objective opinion on anything, I do believe that BoTW has the best structured opening of any zelda games. It doesn't throw a lot of lore dump in your face, nor does it force you to do tideous and irrelevant tasks that drags on the time. It gives you an entire small hub world where you can do and go wherever you want, The genious is that this hub teaches you practically everything you need to know about the enitre world without spelling everything to you. that is why i love it so much totk has a similair structure, but it is more or so linear like old games, but the abilities are also so much more complex that it kinda is a necesity to be limiting here. However once you gain everything, the entire sky island becomes much less linear as you are capable of traversing the world
I like Ocarina of Time’s opening, because it’s one of the BEST Zelda games of all time! I want a remastered version of it for the Switch already! MAYBE when the Nintendo Switch 2 FINALLY gets announced, Nintendo will PROBABLY announce it alongside it?
They are fine enough for me except for skyward sword and twilight princess. Both great games, but holy crap the opening hour is horrible in both games.
Gotta go with ALTTP as number 1. An evil wizard murdered the king and captured Zelda. Zelda sends a telepathic message to Link and his Uncle. Link, watches his uncle die and takes up his Uncle’s role and sneaks into the castle to rescue the princess. Nothing really tops that. I didn’t overly care for it because it took too long but TP is in the top 5 just because we got to see an ordinary Link living an ordinary life. TOTK is tricky but I’d probably put it around 8-10. The introduction to Ganondorf and Link losing the Mastersword was cool but it basically followed the same tutorial from BOTW just swap out a plateau for sky island and a mysterious king you don’t remember for a mysterious king you don’t know. I know most Zelda’s are formulaic but the wild formula didn’t really hit with me.

That wouldn’t be a fair ranking. By that standard, TOTK would be considered the greatest entry in the series because it’s more in tune with the fads of today. As far as nothing was explained. The game explains it in the opening cinematic.

As far as the game as a whole, I preferred BotW over TotK in almost every aspect even though TotK made a lot of improvements. It's absolutely biased but I weigh the innovation of BotW against TotK which leaves me feeling that TotK had a lot of untapped potential. As for the opening, (and BotW isn't in my top 3) I don't think any Zelda opening will ever top that vista as you leave the shrine of resurrection for me. The music being unlike anything we'd ever heard on an exciting new console we'd never played after the longest wait ever as we were left with the taste of Skyward Sword in our mouths...I don't know, totally respect your experience, glad TotK did it for some people.
