  • In this Video, Green Vish discusses about the various aspects of plastics which will help the audience to understand the various ill efforts of plastics and help them to escape out of the ill effects of plastics in a more safer way.
Plastics are produced from Petro Chemicals such as Crude Oil, Natural Gas and Coal.
Firstly, Plastic is a Polymer ( A Chain of Monomer) which was discovered in 1907 by Leo Bakeland and continued to use in multiple shapes, colors in numerous applications.
Plastics are generally of two types.
    1. Thermo Plastics ( Reacts to heat and hence recyclable)
    2. Thermoset Plastics ( Does not reacts to heat and hence Non Recyclable)
Also, We discussed about the Resin Codes (1 to 7) where Codes 1 and 2 would be recyclable but not others.
When we see how Plastics has become such an influential part in our daily lives, It is due to the unique properties of Plastics.
    1. No Rusting and Corrosion
    2. Insulator to Heat, Electricity and Chemicals
    3. Strength and Lower cost.
At the same time Plastics has many disadvantages like No Decomposition,Reacting with Food products and direct consumption by Animals, Fishes and Birds which indirectly affecting the Human Food Chain.
It has been found out through multiple examples that Plastics can lead to Carcinogenic effects when mixed with Food Products.
It has been explained clearly by the consumption by zooplanktons which can affect human system through Nano Plastics.
Micro Plastics are of size less than 5mm and Nano Plastics are of size less than 100 nm.
It is also not question about using Biodegradable Plastics which in turn emits more Green House Gases such as CO2 and Methane while degrading. Hence its clear that, No Plastics can be decomposed completely without any I'll effects.
Also, Here are some shocking Facts about Plastics.
    1. More than fishes, Plastics would be present in the oceans by the year 2050
    2. Every year, Million Sea Birds are being killed only through Plastics.
    3. Every Year, More than one lakh fishes are being killed only through Plastics.
    Hence, It is advised to
    1. Reduce the consumption of Plastics and can alter to Cotton Bags (Though it has some disadvantage) it is definitely less harmful than plastics.
    2. Not incerneate Plastics under any cause which will lead to more emission of GHGs.
    3. Try to segregate Plastics according to its Resin codes so that it would be easy for the recycling units to process the same.
In this, the efforts of Governments and Private Companies are tremendous. One special mention to HUL where they have become Plastic Neutral last year which means they have started recycling more plastics than they actually produce. Such efforts are to be appreciated.

    Well explained !!🙌🙌
Burning plastics releases dioxins that are carcinogenic .In villages and towns where there is no proper collection system and processing system ,single-use plastic usage should be reduced and stopped .Processed stuff in single-use plastic bags are bad for us and the environment .Consciously reducing plastic usage has to be done with urgency .
