@@Mgsgenesis like the thought, but my theory is that the etherals are outcasts of their own race, them being only partially ascended, and thus the others of their race are fully ascended god-like beings. And the next game is them attacking to try and seize the humans psionic potential for themselves, or something along those lines
I remember destroying the bunker that the aliens built in the desert and thinking “why the hell would an alien threat which has proven that the sky is their turf, have an operations control base on the ground?” Looking back at these old scenes i understand it wasn’t a fake out or a trap like i thought when i was a kid. The base had a purpose. It was a Beach head. An FOB with express purpose and blowing it up only pissed them off.
I love the Exalt destruction cutscene. It's very dark and menacing. Killing these corrupted humans isn't something to be celebrated like achieving victory over the aliens, but rather an unpleasant necessity that nobody really wants to remember or talk about. And this cutscene also nicely highlights that XCOM is a covert and dubious organization that is fiercely dedicated to their task and will not hesitate to turn their weapons against humans if they have to.
30:24 I like that this guys just rattling off about his cool toys as you proceed to break them. All the while his inner-monologue sounds like a 40 year smoker.
Wish they kept dr Vahlen in xcom 2. Also Shen engineering team looke more believable. They improved every aspect in xcom 2 but cutscenes were a little off, especially POV ones.
It’s explained in a cutscene in xcom 2, that all your runs of Xcom 1 (especially ones that you succeed) are “War Games”, simulations that simply keep training your tactics and strategies. It’s an in-lore reason for why the commander was kept around, despite failing to stop the alien invasion in Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within.
I've always felt like that cutscenes from xcom 1 are way more sinister and ominous compared with xcom 2. The latter felt like a Hollywood action movie, while the former reminds me of some alien conspiracy theory documents.
@@MgsgenesisThanks for the reply! So glad I'm not the only one feeling that way😊 BTW, although I love both games and the different atmospheres, I personally hate how WOTC makes things so "out of their place". The way it portrays new factions and characters are too cartoonish, especially the chosens when they communicate with the elders in human languages, which is ridiculous😅They act way too "human", and definately should've been in Marvel, not xcom.
Nope i get you, and yeah really there should of been a R&D Project or something that you have to research to understand what they are saying, instead they went with the route of, "well they combined with humans and be came part of the civilisation that everyone speaks the same language"
I have tried playing this game every way possible: Steam, RPCS3, and Xenia, but I must be cursed because I cannot for the life of me get this game to work! It starts out fine for a while, but there's always some game-breaking bug that totally bricks my game! So here I am, watching this to figure out what important story beats I missed. Eh, whatever. XCOM 2 is better anyway.
@Mgsgenesis When you research the outsider shard, there's a scene where they connect it to the satellite systems and they have to switch to thermal and Central says "Gotcha," that's them finding the alien Base. Competing the base is what triggers the XCOM base defense mission

Yeah i get what you mean, i try to look past it and imagine that the world has evolved with alien tech that things are easier to build
Snake's sacrafice.
Snake... snake lived a hard life!
Damn this game still has one of the best intros out of any game.
Pure epicness xD
Totally agree
my god it needs a remaster i loved war of the chosen and i think i stand a chance against enemy unknown or within.
A remaster would be great, or at least some news on xcom 3
Thank you for this, using for a video ♥
Go ahead.

Yeah i get you.
Is us destroying the giant ship
The Commander killing the Avenger if they stayed in the Elders’ control?
hmm, not actually sure.

Kinda sad that exalts victory if you fail the defense mission is the true ending
Yeah it is!
Good game
really is, there worth playing :)
18:03 I always thought about this cutscene being kind of funny with the weapon fire sound and the fact that it's usually a sniper.
I never thought of that 🤣

Just them cutscenes?
What, no find the alien base cutscene?
There isnt a cutscene for finding the base?
The base is the ship that they fly out to and blow up?

At 11:25 is when the alien base/ship appears on the map.
@Mgsgenesis The scene is here, at 43 minutes and 48 seconds. th-cam.com/video/r2pTGap3DTs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QTFHrZGbZMzlYk-S
