Candle making is a science, it takes lots of testing to come up with the right combination of wax/wick/fragrance oils to make a safe and efficient candle. Picking a wick that will perform with the combination of wax/fragrance oil is key for the hot throw, and safety. One other point I want to make is that most essential oils are not meant to be burned in candles, some of them are toxic to pets and should only used on aromatherapy that will not heat them just disperse the scent through the air.
If the right wick (smaller wick) and container (a more narrow form) is used it shouldn’t be a problem…just use essential oils with higher flash points (over 150F) and more stronger scents.
Was just about to buy 2 candles for $100 until I came across this video! Thank you so much for this. Saved me some $ & it was pretty straight forward & easy to do! Now I feel like a pro natural candle maker!😅 god bless you ❤
I bought a pkg of probably 8 in wicks, thinking I could just trim the wick to the size of the jar pot or whatever! Is there any reason that would not work. Thank you I have everything to start except the thermometer! Linda
Hi Linda, are the wicks 8 inches in length or made for a candle container with a diameter of 8 inches (which is often how they're sold, although that would be a rather large container)? Yes, you can trim the wicks (after the candle has been poured and set). I hope you enjoy your candle making!
Great tutorial! I gotta be honest though, I was hoping you’d give us the link to the materials needed so I could just click and order everything right away ☺️
Hi Erica! I used 130 g soy wax and about 2.5 ml essential oil for a lightly scented candle, but you could add up to 7% off the wax weight in oil depending on your preference.
@@nikandbdog yes the weight should remain the same, but take into consideration the weight of the essential oils you add, and check the measurement of the tins isn't fluid ounces which is different to dry ounces 🌸
Welcome! 🌸 it's hard to say without knowing the jar's capacity but I would recommend purchasing around 300g (10 ounces) of soy wax flakes from a craft store and then use the jar to scoop three jars full of dry flakes. Then weigh this amount for future reference. Experiment until you find the right amount and keep another jar ready for surplus melted wax.
Hi Gloria! I haven't tried wooden wicks yet but I want to because I think they look so nice! I will have to get back to you with anything I learn about that. In the meantime a I found this information online "Always keep your wood wick trimmed to (1/8 to 1/4) of an inch to ensure optimal burn time and flame height. Before relighting your candle, simply clip or pinch the burned portion of the wick, taking care not to get any ash into the wax. Only trim wicks on a thoroughly cooled candle."

Thanks for the feedback Becky. I agree and plan to test some supplies available on Amazon to be able to share universal links
What measurements did you use when pouring the candle and oil?

Does dry weight of wax equate to the same in liquid weight? I want to know how much wax to use to fill (12) 8 ounce tins. Thanks!

Hello dear how much fragrance oil in Oz will I need to make one 60z scented candle??? Once I know one I can calculate the rest
I recommend calculating 6-7 per cent of the wax weight for a heavy scent, or just a few drops for a lighter scent 🌸
Is there any other scent rather essencial oils to use and keep having a natural candle?
Hi Juliana. I have seen other fragrance blend oils that are called natural, but you would have to read further into it to check they are non toxic.
@@pineapplefarmhouse6873 thanks, dear! Best wishes from Brazil 🇧🇷
Just found your channel. How much is the measurement of soy wax for 3 small jars

I see you use 4 drop, is this enought intense?
Hi 👋 I didn't show the full amount on the video. If you click through to the blog in the description you'll find the information about dilution ratios
Very helpful thanks 😊
Thanks Kim it's comments like yours that inspire me to make more videos :)
Why doesn't my wooden wicks stay lite?
