  • Manstone Rock (537 m) in the heart of The Stiperstones is the 2nd highest point in Shropshire (after Abdon Burf / The Brown Clee). 'The Stiperstones' is a distinctive Shropshire hill with a shattered quartzite ridge that creates several prominent 'Tors'. The path up to the ridge is easy, wide and grassy, however the ridge path can be awkward in places with jumbled scree fringed by dense clumps of heather. There are several other notable 'tors'. Cranberry Rock, Nipstone Rock, 'The Devil's Chair' and Shepherds Rock.

    The Stiperstones have all of the rocky/rugged beauty that I crave. The views are excellent, but I wish it was just a little bit steeper-sided to give it more attitude. I changed the music to something more appropriate in October 2020.

      The rocky tors on the top were apparently protruding from the glacier during the last ice age....and it was the constant freezing and thawing that caused them to shatter in even sized blocks.
      In the Onny Valley between Stiperstones and Long Mynd (its neighbour to the East), there is a fault line, the Pontesbury-Linley fault separating the 2 hills. Its said that they are now moving apart about the same pace as your finger nail grows.

    Been there many times, Snailbeach is a underrated place in my books. one day i hope to walk the Shropshire way one day and Wild camp along the way. if i can find someone mad enough to walk with me and get lost most of the time, but i need to win the lottery before i can do that. I still have to do a wild camp too.

      The Shropshire Way would be good... there's a north section and a south section isn't there?

      A magical place... especially when you're actually on top of the tors.

    Awesome views! Which drone are you using?

    • @shropshirehillwalks5343
      @shropshirehillwalks5343  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mavic Air. Huge scope for a variety of 'follow me' modes and automatic/ pre-programmed 'smart shots'. It used to be true that the best way to see a hill was from a neighbouring hill. Nowadays hills are best seen with the help of a drone.
      Have you got a drone yourself, or are you thinking of getting one?

      @@shropshirehillwalks5343 awesome. I was thinking of getting the mavic mini because of how compact it is. But I'm not sure it has all the follow me features. Would love to do similar shots from my hikes!

    Fabulous scenery. Don't think the music enhances the sense of awe however!
