  • In this conversation, Tim Whitaker of The New Evangelicals joins Dan for a dual-feed special episode to discuss the upcoming book by Richard B. Hays, a respected New Testament scholar (Duke), and his son Christopher (Fuller), titled 'The Widening of God's Mercy: A Thoroughly Biblical Account of LGBTQ Affirmation in the Church.' They explore the potential impact of the book and the various reactions it has received. They also discuss the importance of acknowledging the harm caused by previous non-affirming positions and the need for an apology. They consider the strategic implications of the book and its potential to shift the conversation in white Evangelical spaces. They highlight the importance of listening to the voices of queer Christian scholars and the potential for the book to provide validation and support for those navigating their faith and sexuality. Also, they explore the idea of holding contradictory views and the importance of integration and growth, including a little bit of therapy-adjacent ideas about Tim and his dad.

I didn't write this but I dictated it cuz I thought it was excellent.
Truth, if you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I will come you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. Let's look at some basic fundamental facts based on extensive research and ongoing r&d. During fetal development a verity of biochemical agents are introduced which determine the development of the fetus. Major agents such as testosterone estrogen and a host of other agents determine size weight hair color eye color and sexuality along with the host of other traits. Variations in the amount and timing of the introduction of these agents have a major effect in our development. The fetus is a passive participant and has no influence in these matters. Sexuality, for example and all other secondary traits are thus given to us. Well, this begs the question, is homosexuality is sin. If your religion or belief system states that it is then there can be no argument. These are the rules based on the system's dogma. If you accept this system you must accept these rules. This is your only choice which is condemnation. If however you are in belief system based on logic reason observation and common sense, and no reliance on spirituality the conclusion is totally different. Replace an ancient religion and mythology with reason leads to another conclusion. Leave in religions that use condemnation and ridicule for control, can be the first step in becoming a true human being minus any imposed or fabricated guilt. There exists many variations of human sexual expression. When you leave there is ancient religions beliefs behind and choose knowledge base and research, you can see and understand the true nature of humanity you leave ignorance hatred and prejudice behind. Being gay is no more of a sin than having red hair they are both based on genetics and clearly not sin there is nothing wrong with you. This is the true choice. Peace ✌️

So one of the most respected bible scholars ever known, referenced for years by all Christians for his apologetics on homosexuality, now sees the truth on homosexuality and the Bible and says we was wrong. This is PROOF most Christians don't really go to the Bible on homosexuality with how they're now turning against this man.

Yup. Christians ignore the Bible, go with their Church or Pastor. Same BS everytime.

Romans 1: 26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.
Doesn't matter which wild exegesis or culture argument or whatever you attempt here the language is clear as day.

Why did God make Adam and Eve male and female?

@@GlovesOff_jc No, not really. Only in the sense that God "created" everything. But in the case of Adam and Eve he literally deliberately made them. Not only that, intersex people are downstream from the fall and sin entering the world. I'm not saying intersex people are more sinful, but we live in a fallen world with all sorts of problems. But that's not the case with Adam and Eve.

To all of you Christians making comments that Dr. Hayes is wrong, he's an heretic, etc., well then what do you make of pairs who arguably were same-sex couples who were in at least a romantic relationship?
    Examples include:
    David & Johnathan
    Ruth & Naomi
Jesus & the nearly naked youth
The Centurion & his beloved slave boy
Jesus & Lazarus a.k.a. the beloved disciple

Nobody has lost love for humans because they hold to sxual immorality being a sin. Every single time you make that claim you are indeed lying and baring false witness. And this narrative wouldn't survive without that claim.
