The Holy Spirit? Or "Just the Drums"? (Sarah Lane Ritchie & The New Evangelicals) (#273)
**You Have Permission Podcast on Apple Podcasts**
podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/you-have-permission/id1448000113
When we have spiritual experiences with things like worship music, is that the Holy Spirit moving? Or, as Tim Whitaker (The New Evangelicals) claimed in a viral Instagram meme, is it “just the drums”? Can it be both?
Tim and Sarah Lane Ritchie return to discuss these ideas, Tim’s experiences as a worship drummer, “spiritual technologies” like worship music, the potential harm of conflating these experiences with “God,” the role of such experiences in the life of faith, and more.

I didn't write this but I dictated it cuz I thought it was excellent. Truth, if you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I will come you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. Let's look at some basic fundamental facts based on extensive research and ongoing r&d. During fetal development a verity of biochemical agents are introduced which determine the development of the fetus. Major agents such as testosterone estrogen and a host of other agents determine size weight hair color eye color and sexuality along with the host of other traits. Variations in the amount and timing of the introduction of these agents have a major effect in our development. The fetus is a passive participant and has no influence in these matters. Sexuality, for example and all other secondary traits are thus given to us. Well, this begs the question, is homosexuality is sin. If your religion or belief system states that it is then there can be no argument. These are the rules based on the system's dogma. If you accept this system you must accept these rules. This is your only choice which is condemnation. If however you are in belief system based on logic reason observation and common sense, and no reliance on spirituality the conclusion is totally different. Replace an ancient religion and mythology with reason leads to another conclusion. Leave in religions that use condemnation and ridicule for control, can be the first step in becoming a true human being minus any imposed or fabricated guilt. There exists many variations of human sexual expression. When you leave there is ancient religions beliefs behind and choose knowledge base and research, you can see and understand the true nature of humanity you leave ignorance hatred and prejudice behind. Being gay is no more of a sin than having red hair they are both based on genetics and clearly not sin there is nothing wrong with you. This is the true choice. Peace ✌️

The Holy Spirit moves in whatever way HE wants to. YOU are not that powerful....even through the power of drums and electronic enhancement. Does music move us, of course. I can listen to Korn and feel a sort of exhilaration the same as in charismatic church, BUT it is not the same spiritual beckoning and response within the body. I feel its the same as David playing his harp in the field. God could feel the reverberations through David's soul connection of love through him that was surmounted by the playing of music. God created the chords and the drums of our ears to hear specific communication of connection and love with Him. It's not manipulation, its God and considering that YOU are creating that manipulation is like saying you believe you have His same power. That is the enemy. Just play, listen, attend, worship and trust that God is continually working on our spirits. Even in those homosexual spheres, the conviction is still there in their soul no matter what words or music is playing or else they would not be fighting so hard to be accepted. I hear the Holy Spirit and cry no matter where He desires to speak whether that be in silence, in my granny's church of Christ off key hymnal singing, watching a movie, the up and down service of the Catholic church, or the loud worship of evangelical church (all of which I've experienced). The point is, 2 Corinthians says that when you truly accept the Lord, the veil is removed. THAT is when you truly see that the Holy Spirit is speaking WHEREVER and WHENEVER HE wants to and we have no power over that other than prayer and surrender. ❤

Tell me that there is not a Holy Spirit moment when you watch the latest from Glastonbury. Coldplay's Fix You with Michael J Fox joining on guitar, in a wheelchair. Truely moving , considering that MJ Fox is a hometown boy of mine, that my family has gone through loss and pain recently, that faith in Jesus and the song's message of "fix you" will not change the situations including M J Fox's illness. Tell me that a Godly Spirit is there in that space.

As someone who has more progressive beliefes as you guys do, watching The Chosen is like a breath of fresh air. It's not a sermon in a movie or something that throws theology like many of the "Pure Flix" films are. Being so entrenched in black and white thinking and sensing the need to convince everybody of my POV for so many years, I now feel a serious aversion to it, and being able to see the grey has brought a lot of peace and zest to my life. Except permission to comment on the Christian Dating Video. so many things wrong with your two feminist guests. Women complain about lack of masculine men yet these are the product of single Mother families. Women shouldn't complain when they get what they ask for. And women in the Church are just as materialistic and feminised as those outside the Church. Dating marriage is a non option, and women only have themselves to blame. But as we all know women are never held accountable for their actions.

I can relate to the trusting myself and agency, but honestly only a small part of that had anything to do with my faith.
