Keep it up if you enjoy it! Never let other people stop you with negativity. Try to use criticism as a constructive outlet to learn about how to make things more appealing. But if its just for you do your thing and do it big.

I'm about to be 12 in like 2 weeks, and i'm doing a writing project. I'm actually starting my first graphic novel now!! There is no way in the history of time that it will ever be published, but right now I'm a one-man-army. I wish us both good luck lol.

Next time you make a video about the books you've been reading you should include a graphic novel recommendation. I am now dead curious about the authors you like and the novels you've read and enjoyed. Nice of you to share your work.
I know it's an older one but thanks so much for making this video. I currently have a graphic novel project in progress (about to start the scripting phase) and it was really nice to see that I'm not the only one who does present-tense chapter descriptions before getting into the real writing. I always get weird looks for having what I consider just a very detailed outline, and I've never heard of it being called a "treatment" before. I always just called it my outline or "pre-writing". Anyway, thanks for sharing your methods and advice! I hope to have my own graphic novel ready to go in the near future.
I’m SO curious about how you write dialogues, how you keep them interesting and fresh. Maybe that’s an idea for a new video? I would rewatch it several times for sure :)!

This was really helpful. I've been trying to write this graphic novel for years. The story is burned in my mind, I have just been having trouble organizing it on paper. Thank you for giving me the hints i needed to move forward.

You don’t believe in inspiration... That’s worth an episode on itself :). Many other things you said as well by the way. Very interesting.
Professional writers rarely wait for inspiration because they have bills to pay.
I look at everything as inspiration.

Jack Reacher novels came into existence cause he needed money & Robert e Howard kept on writing & publishing so much. He had no time for inspiration.

Un vídeo genial. Deberías hacer más sobre escritura, por ejemplo uno hablando sobre cómo te enfrentas a los diálogos o sobre tu carrera como escritor. Me parecen muy interesantes.

Si bien, una tesis tiene toda una estructura y aún así te puedes perder en el tiempo-espacio de algo ya establecido, dicho y repetido por otros tantos; sin embargo, en mi opinión una novela o cuento es mucho más complicado, anticipado sólo mentalmente. Siento que me explota el cerebro y siempre renuncio a obligarme a pensar. Aprecio las imágenes de este video, tus aportaciones y el tiempo para enseñarnos tu trabajo, lo atesoro y valoro mucho.

Ed, this video is fantastic! I've scoured the internet for something just like this. Thank you , you've just gained a writing padwan.
I've been writing a book. I finished an initial draft which ended up about 80k words. The problem is, when I was writing the book I had no idea where it would go, or even what the themes were. As time went on I started to discover what the book was about through writing it, (a normal problem for me) but as I finished this first rough draft I already had ideas about how to go back and change things, add new scenes, or totally change the context to better suit this refined vision. The last few months I've been taking a break due to entering university, but I still get ideas of what I need to change in the book to emphasis the right ideas. Do you think it's worth it to go back and make a treatment for the next draft, even though I've already written so much of the story?
Also I want to say, I'd love to hear more about your writing!
It's hard to tell, since I have not read it, but books written "on the fly" tend to heavily lack an interesting structure and rely on stuff you think as you go, therefore, the reader can think them too. Maybe leave it like it is and start a new one. Write a short treatment to get a grasp of your main characters, structure and goal. If you like it, develop it. :)

Hi Ed, so I did script writing in university, but they never taught me about index cards. What exactly are they for and how do you use them? I'm creating my first graphic novel and I'm glad to see that you approach graphic novels like a film script. I had no idea where to start, but now I know I can approach it like I would a screenplay.
That’s really strange. Index cards are an industry standard. You write a short description of your scene and that way you can reorganize your scenes and see them in perspective. Do a google search. There are tons of examples. :)

I was wondering I have two pen name and one pen I will be writing hentai graphic novels to get it out my system before writing other things because I try that but my thoughts are filled with these thoughts any advise?

Erinyes is now in the process of being drawn and put together. It will take at least a year until it's ready. Where do you teach?

I write hand written letters to a relative. When I rewrite it several times I get the whole story out. I have tried to write about my life because writing fiction is impossible to me, and worked hard at it for long hours. Then I stopped completely. I'm always amazed that there is a story within me when I write letters. Another thing, writing by hand involves my body and it is very cathartic.

This is a really interesting and informative video! I really like this description of your job and what you do on projects. As a Professional Writing major at my college who really wants to get into writing for movies and graphic novels, this is a great video to see. I was wondering, how did you manage to get a job working on TV shows and films? My goal is to become a writer in the movie industry, but it seems like such a difficult industry to get into, and I was just wondering if you had any tips for an up-and-coming writer about how to get a job writing for the movie industry. It seems more like you don't believe in 'waiting for' inspiration and instead insist on making/finding your own. Depends on the definition of inspiration I suppose. Interesting methods and tips. I wrote out some notes and think some of the key points here are really VERY useful, thanks.

Simple question, how different is writing for a novel vs a graphic novel/webcomic?
Minute the obvious “one has pictures, the other has prose”
A graphic novel is written in script format. A novel is written in prose. They are as distant between them as a poem is from a short story.
Step 1 take a pen
Step 2 write a graphic novel

I find it's impossible to write, read or edit videos and listen to podcasts at the same time. Since those are the three things I do, I don't listen to any. :(
