We need more constructive discussions like this about our business and industry. Good stuff. Let's figure out how to fix our industry and raise the standards. 🇯🇲💪
This interview needs to be posted on all the dancehall pages on FB and all over social media...this is basically a raaaas back hand inna nuff a dem "artist" headback. REALITY CHECK...no more mediocre. Unu affi guh WUK, that is who we are as Jamaicans....who know bout hard work like wi...No more entitlement
This was one of the best podcasts that you guys have put out so far, no doubt. It provided a lot of insight about the music industry (especially as it relates to dancehall music) that the average person isn't aware of, which is highly beneficial to artists and music lovers alike. It was informative and hilarious at the same time (props to Nigel, his stories and comments had me weak). Ari and Naro, thanks as usual for putting out such high quality content.
These guys are the most informative duo or interviewee I have ever seen on a Jamaican platform. They say the game is not to be told but to be sold but I can see that these guys genuinely want to help the ignorant active members of this industry so they are forced to reveal all the jewels, mechanisms, fundamentals and the what to do in the industry.... They are experienced and learn the game from 1st world American industry standards and the best thing about it is that they are willing to share it. Two thumbs up to you guys, very educational and progressive...
Very good conversation. Artist, managers, producers and other industry players to consider. I have one major concern. While it is important to know and learn the intricacies of the industry as it is, we need to be mindful of tailoring our music exclusively to meet the demands of the American Music Market. The commercialised conveyor belt writing process of the USA does not inspire the kind of creativity and innovation that DanceHall is known for. We have enough people who are successful for just doing DanceHall to know that we don't have to tailor our music for them. We need to create an industry in Jamaica & the Caribbean strong enough to make its own mark on its own merit. The discussion about a "Jamaican Spoitify" may sound ridiculous. But it's not if we are thinking about being CREATORS in an industry. Spotify is not the only streaming services. There are others and they all compete for dominance. What they have in common is where they are based and whose overall economy they contribute to. Part of The reason why the US dominates the market standards is because the control the technology, the platforms and the institutions through which our music is heard. My overall point being... yes... overstanding where we are, we have to navigate the terrain as is. But ultimately, we have to think more creatively about building and industry on our own standards that allows our artist to be successful in it - and then compels the world to engage with us on that standard.
greatest nightly fix unnu ever record. Ah dem sumn ya unnu fi talk bout caa mi see nightly fix as a higher quality show, not just another ER or Onstage weh talk bere gossip
As someone who worked in radio sales in another jurisdiction back in the early 2000’s I agree with the basic premise that Jeremy outlined with the purpose of radio with one caveat, the consumers of radio come there not primarily for the advertising but for the programming. During peak sales periods at major radio stations all over the world sales managers and programming directors have all out brawls over the limited airtime. Sales departments would like to sell more ads and programming directors want more music. It’s a delicate balance that must be managed carefully.
This is why the Japanese they are doing so good because they have merchandice The are not only sound selectors they actually have merchandice to go with dear product And I'm talking about Mighty Crown you see the amount of people that follow them but they have a lot of merchandice so you guys are definitely On the money
Da Royal General she needs to relax. I watch here hot 97 interview and I saw how Ebro and rosenburg was mocking her lowkey 😂. She needs to humble and start making sensible music.
Asus Warriors when him did do an er interview and say Sean Paul nuh good only hun skin colour make him reach weh him reach and him a say a his time now
Great information dropping from these titans in the game. Hope artists are taking notes, do the homework, research, read, understand the music business and industry. Be intelligent about making this music, making these coins.
I remember the first time I heard I and I said to myself Apple doesn't fall far from the tree when I heard Paradise plum I knew she was a special artist
There is a thing the music industry artists need to learn and that thing is recoupable expenses which means everything the management team pays for it including clothing phone bill food and when you the check you will end up like young New Edition you will left with a $1.87 check
This is why no matter how they try dis Alkaline he has devoted fans that not only bring streaming numbers but go to his shows that he makes direct money from... Also when Alka releases a hit song then wait months for the video is just genius the way he gets more downloads... It shows how many of the old school artist just don't get it he does not need to be in the streets and he did not need the local radio plays and djs when he first buss he had devoted fans in other countries that spent and spend money on him.
That's why Magnum kings and queen is important campaigning is important Magnum kings and queen teach you how champion Maybe I'm repeating myself but it's true

Big up Naro and Ari, now all I heard is function, function, function, problem, problem and problem with no "solution". If you coming to me with a problem you better come with a solution. All these two guys do for 2 hours and 15 minutes was criticizing artist with no f#cking solution. If I need to put a live band together I would call Nigel Staff, but all the other things he and Jeremy talking about is bullshit. I can't even say it was constructive criticism, 90% bullshit. constructive criticism is the process of offering VALID and well reasoned opinions about the works of others. I didn't hear or see it here. Who want to vex vex.
