this brings back a lot of memories, of when i started doing custom paint jobs back in the late 70's and through out the 80's. to this day i still have people coming up to me at car shows talking about the paint jobs i did on there bikes/cars back in the day. it's sad to say, iv'e painted so many custom bikes, and cars. i really cant remember doing all of them. what i do remember is how much fun it was being creative with House of Kolor candy paints. thank you for your video's! p.s. i'm still in the auto-body field.

Super paint job..On bikes you ride regularly it's a good idea to just go with solid black. It's easy to repair. LOL With bikes, it's not if you lay it down, it's when.

  • @Trindal

I am horrible at painting anything. But I love using that tape to lay out designs. I’ve gone through a few dozen rolls in my past. I had some in a lime green color and I laid out flames freehand on the front of a Ford Expedition. I think I have a pick somewhere. That green flame outline looked awesome on the silver paint color. It made me wish I knew how to pinstripe.

I started out as a spray painter at 16 years of age and although I have had breaks from doing it and have worked in many other professions it has always been my main trade, and what I had found out in returning was always new methods, systems, and products that have changed at a fast rate . Just looking at the newer paint products like spray-on chrome that look 100% like chrome, harlequin paint that changes color, paint that crystallizes and change color according to its temperature and the list just goes on. The putty and primers have made repairs and life much easier. The only problem seems to be is the fact that 2k products due to there toxicity and slower drying times ( oven-baked) has made them difficult to use for DIY home use. I also did custom paint jobs for bikes and cars at home full time for over5 years but it would be impossible nowadays as a spray booth seems very necessary and Toxic control does not allow 2K to be sprayed in residential areas. I would also like to add that using acrylic lacquer and cutting back and buffing gave a glass-like finish with zero orange peel ( more work ) the 2K system after baking is stronger and is not supposed to need total cutbacks and buffing but getting a mirror finish straight off the gun seems impossible although I am 100% sure that custom hot rod type show paint jobs would also be cut back many times during and after the whole spraypainting process, I have also seen 2 pack paint jobs that got contaminated by dust or were used with a large candy apple size flakes and ended up been a nightmare trying to cut back the candy apple flakes so that the clear was not affected and had a very bad case of orange peel and with dust contamination on many occasions this also ended up in a repaint to rectify the problem . My point is that the 2pack paint is a nightmare to cut back and buff if you are going for perfection.

Nice ,showing how it’s done is cool. I paid to have my tank painted . It is a 81KZ750 LTD.Just gloss black, they could not do the pin stripes on it correctly at all. I used a hair dryer to warn the pin stripes got them to lay down . I did what they could not . And it was a regular body shop. That was 30 years ago and they are still perfect 👍

Almost perfect. My main issue is the drop shadow on the tank. It shouldnt be on the top AND the bottom of the flame..

Probably just learned about drop shadows before this vid. Also, not a huge fan of the extreme color changes on the flames. Really 60s, but maybe personal preference.

No one knows how to work (LEAD IN) no more. They always want the cheapest way, but is not the best way in my opinion. This dent really could have been almost restored just with the pulling method and (LEADED IN) to a perfect state that would not crack or cause problems later. Although slightly more expensive is a better chose.

Here's a secret if you can't find a matting agent, try adding baby powder and kick your air pressure up, material down and dry spray it.

Question: at 7:16 you point out that you have stopped sanding primer while scratches from rough sanding are visible. At 9:36 you pronounce the sanding completed with a perfect surface. So what happened to the scratches? Did you leave out a step in the video?

Ser U say anyone can do this, Ser I politely disagree! If you had seen some of my home splashes of color to add caricature, well most say Why do you have a blotch of GREEN I simply say Because I wanted it there! I don't think they believe me when it looks so nice in my mind, my weedeat,Rideing mower, even the garbage can I set on the road trash man quite picking up the trash for a month! Its SHOULD NOT BE hard explaining The Flames Because Flames make everything nicer to the eye! The Glow in the Dark paint, nobrainer!! You don't want some one to hit your can, the chain because if I were your and seen that cool Glow Flame Paint Job on anything You'd better chain it down, I understand Trashman u got to do a little work, u take the $ Get the Trash or Leave my Flaming Can alone! Ah that last part didn't sound right but I hope you get what I mean.
U are a BAD MAN WITH A PAINT GUN!
I GOT A CAN OF GREEN IM INSPIRED TO MAKE ART MOST CALL TRASH!!!

I hope no one is using this as a guide. 😂 No one bothered to say anything about filling the tank with water before using a stud welder on it. Good way to get someone blown to bits. Also, if you finish your body work down to 220, you won't need the enormous amount of primer used here.
