- Welcome to this video about Thematic Analysis of Interviews Using NVivo. It is an in-depth tutorial on leveraging NVivo 14 for the thematic analysis of interview data. In this video, I guide you through every stage of the process, using a project centered on exploring the major causes of stress among university students aged 22 to 25, representing various educational backgrounds, studying in public or private universities and income levels ranging from $1000 to more than $2500 USD.
Before we begin, it is to inform you that as a certified NVivo expert, I extend an invitation to viewers to reach out via email (mawwaisgill@gmail.com) for personalized guidance on obtaining a paid license for NVivo. Also, one-on-one assistance is offered for individuals seeking support with their data analysis projects.

Let's get back to the content of the video.
1. Project Setup:
I introduce NVivo 14, highlighting its significance in qualitative data analysis. We start by setting up our project, importing interview files where participants responded to the question, "What are the major causes of stress?"
2. Understanding Case Classification:
Delving into NVivo's functionalities, we explore the nuances of case classification, distinguishing between cases and case classifications. I explain how to add relevant attributes to effectively organize and categorize data.
3. Importing and Creating Cases:
We proceed to import the interview data into NVivo 14 and demonstrate how to create individual cases for each participant. This step ensures a structured approach to data analysis, facilitating easy navigation through the dataset.
4. Inductive Theme Generation:
Using an inductive approach, we identify and populate emerging themes within the interview data. Through meticulous examination, we uncover recurring patterns and insights, enriching our understanding of the research topic.
5. Advanced Analysis Techniques:
Word Frequency Query: I showcase the power of NVivo's word frequency query, enabling us to identify commonly occurring words and phrases related to stress.
Text Search Query: Learn how to conduct targeted searches within the interview transcripts, efficiently locating specific information relevant to our research objectives.
Matrix Coding Query: Explore the advanced functionality of matrix coding queries, allowing us to analyze relationships between different codes and themes.
Coding Query: Utilizing coding queries, we delve deeper into the data, extracting valuable insights and correlations.
6. Visualizing Data:
We utilize NVivo's visualization tools to create hierarchy charts, facilitating a visual representation of our data's structure. Through visualization, we gain a comprehensive overview of the interconnectedness of themes and codes.
7. Manual Coding:
Throughout the tutorial, emphasis is placed on manual coding as a fundamental aspect of qualitative data analysis. I demonstrate the importance of meticulous coding practices in capturing nuanced insights.
By the end of this tutorial, you will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct comprehensive analysis of interview data using NVivo 14. Whether you're a novice or an experienced user, this video equips you with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of qualitative research analysis. Don't hesitate to embark on your NVivo journey and reach out for assistance along the way!

Thank u Soo much sir
It actually cover all the areas that university teachers even avoid to discuss in the classrooms.....
Even at mphil level😢
We're glad you found it comprehensive. With both of us (owners of this channel) teaching MPhil and PhD students, we know the importance of covering what others might shy away from. After all, education is about diving deep, not skimming the surface! Happy Learning 😊
Beautifully explained. Easy to follow. This helped me clear a lot of doubts and made using Nvivo 10 times easier.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that the explanation was clear and helpful for you. It's always rewarding to know that the content made a positive difference. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out anytime!
@@DoctorSQ will definitely do
Amazing. Thank you so much. You are a gem for doing this.
Wow, thank you!
very well explained. I will share it with my students. Thank you for your efforts.
Please do! You're welcome.
Great Explanation sir. Thank you.
Glad you liked it.
Thank you Dir, you explained very well. Sir, could you make another video , part 2 of this video, in which please guide us how we can interpret in words in reporting? Thank you again
Sure. We'll make a video on that. Thank you for your suggestions.
Thank you so much.
The video was really helpful 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Sir Roman
Glad it was helpful.
Thank you so much!! 🙌

An informative video.Indeed a wonderful 👏 pakistan
Thank you for appreciating it.
Great video You should do a Part 2. Best wishes ❤
Thank you! Any suggestions for the second part?
@@DoctorSQ Hi, you could talk about additional options like: Sentiment, Notes section, cloud projects, Sets, Transcription, etc.
Yeah sure. Please keep watching and you'll find that video soon.
@@DoctorSQ Awsome thanks 😁
Kindly share video about interpretation of qualitative data as well
As soon as possible
Thank you.
Sure. Soon, we'll upload a video on that. Thank you for your suggestions. Keep watching!
thank you for this. How do i add more transcript on a project?
Go to the import ribbon tab, hit import and select the 'files' and select all that you desire to import.
will you please guide me how to show percentage in hierarchy chats of free version Nvivo
Sure, please write to me at mawwaisgill@gmail.com
Currently doing a Qualitative Data Analysis, but I stop at auto-coding because it shows "insufficient or no coding," even if I made lots codes already. Please advise
The "insufficient or no coding" message is an error that only appears when using the last auto-coding function in NVivo (when you have not done enough coding beforehand). It doesn’t affect the other four auto-coding options, so you should be able to proceed without issues when using those. Try using a different auto-coding option, and let me know if you need further assistance!
do all the files/cases have to be imported and text entered manually? this will be an impossibly time consuming exercise.
That’s an excellent question. If you’ve saved your case classifications in a (SPSS or Excel) sheet, you can directly import it, and it will automatically be associated with the corresponding cases (as long as the names match). I suggest exploring the 'Import' ribbon tab and then navigating to the 'Classifications' section.
Where i can get the sample file for processing?
In every version of NVivo, a "Sample Project" is available next to the "Create Project" option.
I cant found this app in play store
NVivo is not available for mobile phones; it can only be used on desktop and laptop computers.
