    Your content is so good! I’m learning so much! I just got hired as a project coder with a university in South Louisiana where I’ll be coding stories collected from Cajuns and Creoles-many of them elderly whose native languages are French and Creole. I’m so excited, because I’m passionate about my culture and the stories of my people here in South Louisiana!
    I’m also a web developer and aspiring software engineer (a different type of coder). I’ve played around with OpenAI’s ChatGPT quite a bit, and while it’s fun to play around with and it has helped speed up my programming workflow, qualitative data research and analysis is one area in which artificial intelligence is extremely lacking, so at this point, I believe using AI for my new job at this point would, in many ways, actually slow down my workflow.

    Well done. I had an 'Ah, ha!" moment that I didn't get the first time I viewed this. Nice to see WORD is good for beginners, and for a required thesis or dissertation probably demonstrates better you know the process. Also, what to do with the codes, why we can't just read and make thematic conclusions, that this would not allow repeatable studies by others, can be very subjective and not transparent, or perhaps manipulated, and overall reduces academic integrity. We're still building fences for lack of trust on one hand, but the systematization of the coding process does provide a better result. It puts computer -aided QDA in perspective, and confirms the computer-aided software is a useful data management system, but has the same conceptual meaning as a manual method of coding and analysis. It will be interesting to see what the Content and Thematic analysis videos look like now as this video was a prerequisite I think. Thanks.

    Amazing! Now imagine a structure, like a taxonomy of an ontology, to be reused as a codebook (following deductive coding). In computer science, an ontology conceptualizes a domain and represents knowledge with hierarchically organized concepts. This structure would be imported to CAQDAS. During coding, inductive codes could emerge. So, these last could be exported to ontology, and this iterative process often enriches the ontology for many research studies.

    I HAVE A SUGGESTION!
    (Please correct me if I'm wrong!)
    It involves using cutting-edge technology in the Coding Phase of Qualitative Analysis:
    1. Initial Coding: Start by doing the Initial Coding stage yourself using any method of your choice, and...
    2. Line-by-line Coding: Use an LLM (large language model), at a temperature of 0, to 'dive deeper' into the data and organize it into a formalised set of codes. This means you will prompt (instruct) the model to go through your entire data set, line-by-line, and refine and expand on the codes obtained from the Initial Phase - the aim of the Line-by-line Stage. Good knowledge of prompt engineering can help with this process.
    Please I want to know what you think. Thank you!

    • @GradCoach
      @GradCoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Potentially, but it would be risky. While the capabilities of LLMs are impressive, they're still far from perfect and cannot compare with a human-based approach to qualitative coding.
