I'd give a leg just to be in the same room as a guitar like this...and I'd give another leg to see Eric Johnson play it. So basically being at Norms on a day like this would leave me legless but happy! Cheers!!!
I love my early 2000's 335 from the early days of the Memphis Gibson factory. It plays really comfortably. My holy grail guitar is a vintage 335 with block inlays. They're just the coolest looking guitars ever to me and Clapton is my favorite player ever and my favorite tone of his was achieved with that guitar in the Cream days and From The Cradle as well.
This is so endearing. He's just like anybody who just ends up trying "The One" and can't put it down and plays for a good long time. And looks over at Norm with that boyish grin and goes back to playing. I hope he bought it! We are all nearing our last guitar choice. He's earned the chance to have "The One". Thanks Eric you gave us all a lifetime of 150%!
So lucky to have Eric show up. Love his style. He’s a role model 👍 I’ve got a lot of sweet guitars but my bucket list includes going to Norms and picking out a hot early late 50s Strat. One day.
Beautiful guitar and playing as always from Eric. Been listening to him since the early 90's. Oh and I almost brought home that blue Supro in the background a few months ago. lol
I personally think Eric has one of the most recognizable tones, styles, and sound of any guitarist alive today. Much like you know its Ozzy without question when you hear Ozzy.
I'll tell you what's hilarious is I was literally thinking "FINALLY somebody makes a guitar video in a store without plugging into a Fender and sounding exactly like everybody else" and then I see him turn that Fender on. LOL! EJ sounds like EJ though no matter what he's plugged into. I'm just a Vox guy and hate when people act like only a Fender can get good tones.
@@SimpleManGuitars1973I agree totally’ I’m a vox guy aswell but I also live Orange head and bins aswell’ and let’s be honest here’ unless someone is playing through a certain amp and using the factory settings with no pedals etc then yeah I get it as far as needing to use a certain amp to achieve a certain players tone etc’ but if the player is someone who uses even one pedal and say a les Paul or a strat or whatever then u can pretty much achieve the same tone etc by using most amps to a certain extent’ but that pancake 335 looks pretty rad’ anyway big love from New Zealand’
Now Eric Johnson starts the vintage hardwood vs vintage laminated plywood debate. That guitar waited 60 years to finally have prominence and graced by a guitar hero. Eric can make any guitar sound great. Then again, Bonamassa is probably on line 2.👍🏻
I posted in the earlier Eric Johnson video from this year that it felt like they were filming without permission. Still kinda feels like that, even though Eric seemed very cool about it at the time.
I have a collection of similar model old & new guitars. For mysterious reasons the older ones are just more playable, in-tune all the way up the neck, and easy on the fingers.
Wow! So great giving us these videos! Any chance of getting one of those wall db meters off Amazon so we can see sometimes how loud the players have things? Thanks!
Eric is killer but I particularly love his playing when he’s playing Gibsons. Love his tone here when he starts playing Stepping Out. 👍🤘 (oh yes, I laughed at the Mr Creosote response to ‘wafer thin’ 😂).
Which one did Robert Johnston buy? I want that 1962 Dot that he was playing. Let me know if you didn’t buy it I will. About that 58 Les Paul from you last week
What amp is he playing through? It doesn't look like he's plugged into the Marshall JCM 800 behind him, but it sounds like he's playing through a Marshall?
I don't know if they ever done a video on this, but would like to know what they do when a hi profile customer comes in, how they sell them a guitar, do they suggest guitars to them or only bring out guitars they were looking for?
The thing is, I know if I played that same guitar thru the same amp, it would still sound like me and NOT Eric Johnson! Life just ain't fair sometimes.
No matter what guitar he plays, he still sounds like Eric Johnson. We should all be so blessed. Venus Isle rules!
I agree, thanks to John Cordy on TH-cam I revisited 'Venus Isle' and now it's my favorite of all of Eric's stuff.
His playing on venus is so over the top, its like he said, lets get this over with, lol@@BeachJazzMusic
Eric is something else. A very humble man. Interesting to hang with. Crossroads. Star of Texas
And this is a humble comment.
What a treat to hear him put that sweet axe through a few paces. Also, he's probably the nicest "rock star" I've ever met.
I'd give a leg just to be in the same room as a guitar like this...and I'd give another leg to see Eric Johnson play it. So basically being at Norms on a day like this would leave me legless but happy! Cheers!!!
Come to LA - it’s just a Guitar Store. Lots of Gibsons and Fenders with expensive price tags.
Crawling away with a smile! Lol
@spencerdawson6536 Wouldn't describe better.
I run into him in Austin every now and then at guitar stores and vegan restaurants. Nice guy and very humble!
Love seeing 335's getting more love as of late. The 50s/early 60s ones (and even some late 60s ones) have some real magic to offer.

Eric is an absolute legend!!! And to be in Norms shop where all the legends go🥳
Amazing 🤩
He's a living legend. I'm blessed to own a 1961 ES-335 Dot that Eric once owned. I'm not sure why he sold it because it's awesome.
Its nice to see that the wide eye'd Child..... is still alive and kicking, inside EJ.
i don't really listen to Eric's music but dude is a monster on the guitar. his playing is just so clean and unique
I actually listen to his recordings fairly often but watching him just jam plugged straight into an amp is almost better
I met Eric in 2010 when he played a show at Strathmore in Maryland. He's a really nice guy.
Love EJ so much!
Really liked the first 335's tone.
Ja wybrałbym tę ostatnią, na której grał. 👍
Great video thanks EJ Rules🎸 Fun to watch a master test out beautiful guitars!

I like it that Norm doesn't hard sell Eric..he respects him and knows the guitar speaks for itself
I'm sure he's his buddy though 😂
Mr. Johnson seems like the coolest dude.
And this is the coolest comment.
Love this. The guitars and the player are legend.
Always enjoy seeing EJ vids!
Phenomenal. Always the best from Normans.
So lucky to have Eric show up. Love his style. He’s a role model 👍 I’ve got a lot of sweet guitars but my bucket list includes going to Norms and picking out a hot early late 50s Strat. One day.
The master of inversions
That guitar looks pristine and using the vintage amp was the perfect choice ✅. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵
Eric at the guitar cross roads of the world
my birth year dream guitar, glorious.
Beautiful guitar and playing as always from Eric. Been listening to him since the early 90's. Oh and I almost brought home that blue Supro in the background a few months ago. lol
Oh man! Love EJ! Was on the front row in Austin, TX during the recent Ah Via Musicom tour! It was awesome!
When he's playing softly here the richness of the tone is something else
Big fish on line, Norm reeling Eric in. Like seeing the masters noodling around. They are like the rest of us, they just do it a lot better.
I personally think Eric has one of the most recognizable tones, styles, and sound of any guitarist alive today. Much like you know its Ozzy without question when you hear Ozzy.
I'm assuming Jen shot this; if so, great job! You're the best! Such a sweetie!
Legend
Surprising test drive material. A classical virtuoso plays every lick on the “Beano” album.
+
YES !!! Last House on the Block
Legend. That PRS Hollowbody on the far left at 1:00 is speaking to me
Thanks, eric
who else was hoping he'd plug into the Marshall, crank the volume and tear into Zap? I know I was.......lol

It's not the guitar and it's not the amp all in the fingers.
I’m sure he would have not sounded like everyone else if he were playing thru a fender amp too.

Of all the times I've been to Norman’s, I've never been lucky enough to meet anyone famous there. Except for Norm that is. 😂
Norm who?
Baaaaaa!
I posted in the earlier Eric Johnson video from this year that it felt like they were filming without permission. Still kinda feels like that, even though Eric seemed very cool about it at the time.
It feels like a nature documentary.
Trying to learn Cliffs of Dover, wellll it's a tough one. :D
Nice clean riffs
I'm almost certain that Eric walked out of Norm's with one or even both of those!
Then flipped them to Joe Bonamassa. LOL!
wow!
This video converted me into a Gibson fanboy instantly hahahha jokes aside, Very nice playing!!! Loved the video, I hope to learn one of his songs.
I liked that second guitar that he played, the one he said I like this guitar and asked about if it still had the brown case.
Max said, "I promise not to ding it." Don't drop your loop on this one. lol I also got the Monty Python reference.
"It's not wafer-thin..." 😂😂😂
Great guitar and an amazing player.
Thanks, y'all 🙏🏻🤍
Eric Johnson is a top-tier guitar god!
the color of that 62 is awesome. It looks like a glass of bourbon🙂
Eric can play any guitar and it will sound great , I guarantee.
I have a collection of similar model old & new guitars. For mysterious reasons the older ones are just more playable, in-tune all the way up the neck, and easy on the fingers.
masterful... did he keep it?
I'm no guitar expert, but the 2nd one he plays here sounds special
I swear, in a few of these phrases, Eric sounds like Eric Johnson impersonating Joe Bonamassa impersonating Eric Johnson. Uncanny!
Haha! I thought the same thing.
Eric sounds a lot like the other Eric on these ES-335's, loving it.
Wow! So great giving us these videos! Any chance of getting one of those wall db meters off Amazon so we can see sometimes how loud the players have things? Thanks!
And that concludes today's master class, children.
Strongest and cleanest fingers in the guitar biz. SRV's were the strongest period.
Simply brilliant! Too bad Eric didn't bring along the rest of G3!
Eric is killer but I particularly love his playing when he’s playing Gibsons. Love his tone here when he starts playing Stepping Out. 👍🤘 (oh yes, I laughed at the Mr Creosote response to ‘wafer thin’ 😂).
Lord Eric himself!
Love the absence of reverb. Sometimes it's a bit much.
what a treat! That cat can really play
Nice sound and tone for Eric.
Even the pros are chasing the Clapton tone!! 😂 love it!
THE sounds of bluesbreaker album
gibson should buy that for eric. all the 335's they're gonna sell when he hits the stage with it
No, Gibson should make the same guitar, for us, and get rid of Murphy Labs.
How funny: I bought an Eric Johnson Strat from this store just two years ago! 😝
Norm, he was waiting for you to give him a lower price.😀
Looks like a sale to me!
Somebody is buying a guitar today
wow
That guitar is AT LEAST five hundred dollars $$$
damned inflation!
😂
Thanks Obama.
But the brown case costs $35,000.
That's just to look at it...
Mister Cool!
❤
Did he get it?
I hear strong Allen Holdsworth influence in Eric Johnson’s playing
So how much would a guitar like this be?
One does not hand Mr Johnson a 335 with a price tag hanging from the tuners. 👍
Quanto Cuesto, for 62 ES335? Señor Norman???
Well that guitar is no longer for sale ,pretty sure he wants it
Hopefully Eric tried to shave down the price a bit!
Fat chance! Lmao
Well? Did he buy it?
So Norm? Did you close the deal?
He's smitten. Bet he walked out with it!
@@AJgeartalk When Gibson/Cupid’s Arrow strikes, you must give in to Love, Tone and Playability!
It is not the guitar it is not the amp it is all in the fingers.

Robert Johnston?¿?
What amp is he playing through? It doesn't look like he's plugged into the Marshall JCM 800 behind him, but it sounds like he's playing through a Marshall?
It’s whatever that old fender is at 1:05
I don't know if they ever done a video on this, but would like to know what they do when a hi profile customer comes in, how they sell them a guitar, do they suggest guitars to them or only bring out guitars they were looking for?
Did he buy it?
How good is it when he bends up a string to meet the open ringing string
Maaaan, how is he getting that sound?
What amp, pedals?
Maestro!
Also, he smiles!!
Never seen that before, right on!!
Sounds like a fuzz in a Fender .
That is how a Tweed Bassman sounds when cranked….
"Righteous" is a great description.
IMO GOTD should use of the Marshalls more often.
Bonnamassa steals from everyone but he's smart
So did he buy it?
I wanna do a 335 build, just to piss off "theres no tone wood" ppl 😂
The thing is, I know if I played that same guitar thru the same amp, it would still sound like me and NOT Eric Johnson! Life just ain't fair sometimes.
I thought they went to the block neck markers in '62?
What amp he is using ? Or any drive ?
Looks like a vintage Fender Bassman
What fuzz pedal is he using please???
Has to be a Fuzz Face type, right?
Beano fuzz ..... 😅
Kind of reminds me of Mr. Rogers…….. definitely doesn’t look 70…… more like 50.
