The CCP originally gained power from the people because during the mainland era of the ROC (Taiwan today), they practiced dictatorship similar to what the CCP does today. The CCP promised the people that when it gained power, it would give significant power to the people, including freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the freedom to protest. HOWEVER, as soon as the CCP became the leader of China, all those promises were flushed down the drain. This is the direct cause of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and the massacre that followed. Today, the CCP maintains its power by blocking foreign media, making it impossible for most Chinese people to access truthful news and information, and by deleting any comments and posts from Chinese citizens who know what’s really going on.
